This doesn't prove anything of the sort. I think we made a deal to improve our football team despite not knowing exactly which Qb will start week 1. Decisions like this happen all the time; its a strategic decision and one that doesn't necessarily have to preclude us from picking up or drafting any qb. If anything, we made this deal so we could drop Harvin and save cap space and a draft pick. Not sure this will have any impact on our 6th overall pick.
But the Broncos traded him and the Dolphins traded him. Neither one was trying to clean house. They just didn't want Marshall anymore. Now Chicago doesn't want him anymore. It doesn't seem great players are treated that way. I'm not saying it was a bad trade. The Jets got him for low compensation, but I would be a little worried that the third team has traded him and each time, they asked for what would probably be perceived as loss than market value.
Not the first to bash Cutler. Seems like nobody likes him. I'm not saying go public but nobody likes Cutler. And I'd bet it was about football and winning games with BMarsh.... and Cutler's lousy leadership and Prima Donna aloof act.
The Denver and Miami stands were before he got his psychological issues under control. I'm not saying the guys and Angel trust me. I have no doubt that at some point if Geno is still our quarterback this whole season, Marshall is going to blow up. I'm just saying, the most recent switching of teams for him is not because
So glad we made this trade. The market for Cobb is heating up, if we had gone after him his price would be way more than he is worth. Getting Marshall via trade saves a lot of cash and gives us a great receiver we would have had a really hard time matching in FA. His age and contract allows us to draft a WR at 6 if it is BPA. The fact that Bowles was with him for two years in Miami and saw how he acts around the team and still coveted him speaks volumes about his attitude.
Marshall forced his way out of Denver because of Josh McDaniels, much like how Jay Cutler(And others) did. Can never forget the infamous intentional batted balls at training camp.
If your wife threatens divorce and taking you to the cleaners to the tune of $20MM over that Ferrari, you'll sell it for a 5th round pick too
He's been in the league 3 years dude. He lit it up his second year and got injured halfway through his 3rd. Why do people act like this guy has been around for a decade?
That's an oversimplification. There are a lot of factors that go into personnel decisions, especially today in the salary cap era. It could be a change in schemes/philosophy, a coaching change/regime change that wants to move in a new direction (like Chicago this offseason), salary cap issues, etc. Do you think the fact that the Cowboys might not be able to keep Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray is an indictment of either player? They have come out publicly and said they desperately want to keep both players, but they might not be able to because of cap restraints. The Bears have a young franchise receiver in Alshon Jeffery, an emerging potential #2 receiver in Marques Wilson, and Marshall is 30 years old, so that might have had something to do with it as well. And can we blame Marshall for getting a little fed up after having to deal with Jay Cutler for 3 years lol!
Are you comparing Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray leaving as free agents to Marshall getting traded 3 times in his prime? Secondly, do you really believe that each time he was traded, it was because of a change of philosophy, scheme, coaching staff, salary cap, or new direction? Or are you just making excuses for Marshall because he is a Jet?
I'm just saying, all of those things are possibilities, that's all. We know that Marshall has been hugely productive on the field, averaging over 100 catches a season. Also, let's look at the teams that traded him. First, the Dolphins are hardly an elite, winning franchise, especially lately. They haven't made the playoffs in years, so obviously they have made plenty of mistakes personnel-wise. And the Bears just hired John Fox as their new HC, and he's known to be a run-first, defensive oriented guy. Plus, as I mentioned before, they have Alshon Jeffery and an emerging Marques Wilson. So Marshall and his big contract were somewhat expendable. ...and another reason I love the Marshall trade is this, which I mentioned earlier: I remember watching an interview of Brandon Marshall at the Pro Bowl several years ago and coming away very impressed. He displayed all of the traits of a winner - positive, upbeat, optimistic, dedicated to his craft, and driven to succeed. He spoke of how he wanted to do his best every time he stepped onto the field, even in a meaningless game like the Pro Bowl, and it showed on the field in that game as well. A true professional. It was one of the reasons I ended up drafting him onto my fantasy team the next year (his first with the Bears), and he helped me win the league championship in a very competitive league.
The Broncos traded him because they didn't want to deal with him. The Dolphins traded for him and realized they didn't want to deal with him either. The Bears traded for him and realized they didn't want to deal with him either. But, yes. The real probability is that all of these three are poorly run organizations and he will thrive under the outstanding organization that is the NY Jets. Can we at least entertain the possibility that he has been traded 3 times in his prime because he is a pain in the ass?
We should be targeting Phillip Dorsett out of Miami in the third. He's exactly the kind of receiver we need to take the top off the D and let Marshall/Decker dominate in one on one coverage.
It's the same concept as dating in your 30's and 40's. If the broad is single it probably means there is something wrong with her. But it doesn't mean she can't cook a halfway decent meal and blow you every once in a awhile.
Look, I'm going by what I've seen of him the last 3 or 4 years. Every game I've watched of his, he has conducted himself like a professional. How he played in that meaningless pro bowl game, and his interview, impressed me. Most of what I've read about him indicates that he has matured a great deal lately. Does he still bicker occasionally with teammates, or say something stupid to the media? Apparently so, but those incidents are few and far between now, and he hasn't hurt the Bears on the field the last 3 years. Cutler is known to be a prick and a royal pain in the ass himself, so we can't blame Marshall for having words with him. None of his teammates have ever liked Cutler; he keeps to himself and is an aloof, egotistical prick. So I'd say, given those circumstances, Marshall did the best anyone could have hoped for in Chicage. And again, John Fox is taking over, and if I'm not mistaken he's the same coach that got rid of him in Denver, again probably a big part of that is his philosophy as a run-first defensive guy. ....so could he cause problems here? Sure, it's possible, but given all that I've said in my last few posts, I think all the evidence points to it being unlikely. (plus don't forget that he had a good relationship with Bowles while in Miami)
It's a low risk high reward trade for us.. A 5th rounder only a 20% success rate and Marshall is a true #1 WR... It's a good move. Well done Mac!! Now on to our QB situation!!!!!!
This is exactly it, Bowles was with him for two years in Miami and didn't one of the new scouts we hired (maybe even director of scouting I can't recall) come from the Bears where he too had exposure to Marshall on a regular basis? This being the case should speak volumes about Marshall that two individuals that would certainly be key cogs in us bringing in Marshall have intimate knowledge of Marshall both on and off the field and still had no problem bringing him on board.
Is there any proof (link) that Bowles had a good relationship with Marshall? Or is this just speculation and people connecting dots? Bowles was the Secondary and Assistant head coach in Miami so I don't think he worked with Marshall a lot. I don't remember seeing anything that says they and a good (or bad) relationship.
