All this talk about overpaying ?! Even if it is more than market value, shouldn't we reward loyalty? I personally want to be the type of team that pays our long standing core players an above fair value to stay playing with the team that they have repped their whole career. That's how you build the type of chemistry and set the tone that the NY Jets will take care of their own
Well it looks like the new GM is no better at spending money than the last one. A $15M guaranteed over next two years. We are also paying $20M a year for our top three receivers. At least we are not keeping Harvin who we gave $6.5M and a draft pick for which would have been nice to have right now.
34 year old Larry Foote excelled in Todd Bowles defense last season. Harris is younger and better - I think Bowles will put Harris in the best situation to succeed - that includes less time in coverage.
This x1000 There is a reason why Rex was salivating over the idea of him hitting the market. He would have been signed in a heartbeat, whether by Buffalo or someone else. Love the move and love Harris. He should do extremely well in Bowles' defense
MHO looking at at this moment our GM must have had the worlds biggest brain fart to resign DH since we will not be a contender this year, next year, nor the year after that & by that time DH will be home rocking his children to bed. The far better option was to save the money & develop a far younger & faster DH & allow DH to hit the FA market. JMHO
You'd rather have the Jets play David Harris twice a yr? I'll pass - Jets can still draft a linebacker and let that player develop slowly instead of throwing him into the fire. We got a crap-ton of cash anyway. You should be happy to see a good linebacker start AND finish his career as a Jet.
You guys clearly do not seem to get it. The Jets have failed, the last 2 years, to spend appropriately. There is a certain percentage of cap they must spend over a certain span of time. No way around it. Now, having said all that, I have zero problem catching up on cap spending by giving a few extra bucks to a guy who has been a good soldier, valuable and a team leader. We didn't go buck wild...just mild wild...so why waste so many worry cycles on this transaction... David has earned it...he's also earned the right to retire as a Jet. Love the move...! Macc is, so far, doing a good job. If he can lock down Mo', Snacks & mix in a guy like Kenrick or Bellore then I'd have nothing to complain about. On Offense the only guy I want back is Powell. He is VASTLY underrated and can carry an offense, in the event of injury. Kudos to Bowles and Macc...they are doing a fine job so far.
Typical responses from some of the Jet fan base. No matter what move is made criticism will abound about equivalent to praise. We have yet in some folks eyes to make a good move...not since probably Curtis, which some might have thought then we overpaid for. So here we go again. If we don't spend money we are idiots, if we do we are idiots for not spending it wisely. If we take a chance, low risk mind you, on a stud superstar WR we are stupid, if we don't we are clowns in free agency. We provided our already handicapped QB no weapons was the cry last year, yet if we do they cry because of character issues not one of which manifested in poor performance on the field and most all of them are in the distant past. I will venture to say this. If BM would have been picked up by the Pats every clown in NE and many here would have been singing praises of ultimate wisdom, particularly the media. But wait, the have a HOF QB and we don't, so that makes Marshall a better person and a better fit with the cheaters that do no wrong, LOL. Of course if we protect our captain of the D for a couple of years we are clear morons for over paying an ageing two down backer, if we don't we are even bigger clowns for letting Rex masterfully steal probably the best value ILB to hit free agency. But there is more, why invest in upgrading our offense since we don't have a top notch QB. Geez, why don't we forfeit the future till we find one. Le us ignore the fact that free agency has not even started yet. And the icing on the cake is what I just read ...at least in one fans opinion we will not be contenders this year, or next, or the year after that. What? We know this how? Even for the ultimate dark siders isn't it way to early to throw the towel on this new regime? I think a little sunshine is desperately needed on this franchise.
It looks like U do not under stand what I posted. DH is slower the molasses when covering a back out of the BF. Most of his tackles are 4/5 yds D/field so I would not be raving so much until U do a very deep analysis of his play over the last several years
WE MUST SPEND MONEY DUE TO NFL RULES Stop bitching about a couple extra million tacked on for a good veteran leader. We are not hoarding money every year, it's not allowed and it gets us nowhere.
You must not understand what I posted. DH is slow, however he is a sure tackler and knows how to get the defense in the right position. Harris played in 99.4 percent of the defensive snaps last season - that is far too much for Harris. Now, if you actually knew a decent replacement for Harris [in which there is not] - feel free to tell us, if not I would keep quiet
How cute some of you though Harris was washed up and would have trouble finding a team to take him. I told you then The Hitman is a stud and would have no trouble getting $8-$10/yr on the open seas. Feel lucky we got him for 'only' $7.5. Harris no doubt gave Mac a home town discount to stay were he's always played and not have to move his family to a strange town.
