I agree I didn't realize when the trade was rumored that Bowles knew him at Miami. Bowles likes him too He'll be 31 but whatever. Great player
all this bs of Marshall being old is ridiculous ... he's one year older than Revis ... our fan base is a bunch of whiny bitches.
I like it. The new GM isn't waiting around and has apparently already made his mind up about Harvin. We would have given up a 4th to the Seahawks. Save a few and get a better player. Not a racist either. So got that going for us too.
Anyone who wants to get to really know our new WR just go and watch the episode of A Football Life about Marshall. You can't come away from that without respect for what the guy's been through in his life and how he's turned things around.
This is a good move by the Jets' new management. Brandon Marshall is a legitimate #1 WR, and the combination of him and Decker is very solid. If we get a speedy receiver who can "take the top off the defense", we would have a pretty great receiving corps (but not much depth.) If Amarro makes more progress, the passing game could make a really nice turnaround. I think he's not the long-term answer here, because he's 31, but can be our #1 receiver for a couple of years, something we desperately needed. Decker will be a lot better if defenses have to split their attention between multiple good targets.
I agree ... one of the best if not the best episode of the series ... nuthin' but respect for this guy.
31 is not terribly old for a receiver. Depending on the player, they can still put out good production for another 2 to 4 years or so. You can see a few top receivers putting up 1000 yards until they're around 34 or 35. Some guys also drop off around 32 or 33, so it can vary.
Marshall is a legit #1 WR. Injury plagued last season, he started off pretty monster. Hard to knock the move by MacCagnan saving cap room (I think next year and the year after he counts like $2 mil/$3 mil), saves the #4 pick and gets us a red zone threat.
Let's look at some of the older receivers in this league and how they've performed age 30 and on: Andre Johnson: Age 30 - 1216 yards Age 31 - 1598 yards Age 32 - 1407 yards Age 33 - 936 yards Anquan Bolden: Age 30 - 837 yards Age 31 - 887 yards Age 32 - 921 yards Age 33 - 1179 yards Age 34 - 1062 yards Reggie Wayne: Age 30 - 1145 yards Age 31 - 1264 yards Age 32 - 1355 yards Age 33 - 1355 yards Age 34 - 960 yards Age 35 - 1355 yards Age 36 - 779 yards Roddy White: Age 30 - 1296 yards Age 31 - 1351 yards Age 32 - 711 yards Age 33 - 921 yards I'm not worried at all about Brandon Marshall and his age
i'm wondering if i'm reading his contract correctly or not.. i see 7.3M 2015 7.9M 2016 8.3M 2017 nothing guaranteed potential incentives being put in place with Jets to earn more can anyone verify if that's accurate or not?
Fact is we got a stud #1 WR to go with Decker without having to go into a bidding war with other teams for a FA likely handing out over 10 mill a year and handing out huge guarantees. All that for a 5th round pick! This was a great move by Mac and Bowles. I haven't been this excited about our WR core in a long, long time.
anyone here ever go to www.walterfootball.com. i sometimes use it for draft analysis and mocks but they HATE the jets over there look at this trade breakdown. "Credit Aaron Leming of BearReport.com for having this trade at 10 a.m., whereas Adam Schefter announced it an hour later. I just wanted to make that clear because some publications are giving Schefter credit. As for this trade, the Jets have a new front office, but they are doing the same, stupid things. Brandon Marshall is not the same receiver he once was. Many will remember Marshall for his many 100-reception seasons - he had five of them - specifically his 2012 campaign in which he registered 118 catches for 1,508 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those days are long gone. Marshall caught 61 balls for 721 yards and eight scores last year, and that downward trend will continue, especially given that he'll now be playing with a limited or inexperienced quarterback. Marshall is no longer a young player; he turns 31 later this month. It's also fair to say that his attention is elsewhere. He focused on being a weekly analyst on Inside the NFL last year, and it obviously distracted him from actually playing football. Being in New York will make it easier on him, since he won't have to travel, but then there's issue of his locker room antics. The Bears wanted to jettison Marshall to clean up their locker room, so why are the Jets taking him on? I understand that New York surrendered just a fifth-round selection and addressed a huge need, but this trade is a classic case of subtraction by addition. In addition to costing the front office $9.575 million against the cap, Marshall will hurt the team's morale if things go south, and they will because the Jets have one of the worst rosters in the NFL. This will not end well for New York. As for the Bears, the fifth-round choice isn't as significant as getting rid of a player who, by their own admission, hurt the team in the locker room and was costing the franchise close to $10 million in cap space. Now, if only Chicago could also dump Jay Cutler. If the front office manages to convince the Jets to take on Cutler's contract as well, it'll have a very successful offseason. Grade for Jets - C- Grade for Bears - B+ "
Here are my thoughts on this trade and let me start by saying I'm thrilled. Remember not that long ago when we got Braylon Edwards and what he subsequently did for us? Does that bring back memories? Yet the first reaction then was he is washed up, he drops too many balls, he has some issues, Yada, yada, yada. Well the stupidest move was not getting Braylon but letting him go too soon. I think Marshall will bring even a stronger set of skills and be a leadership force in the locker room and on the field. He comes to us with a chip on his shoulder, used as the escape goat in Chicago by a disfunctional locker room and an out of control QB and coaching staff. Sounds familiar? He comes to a fresh environment with some football savvy, no shit coaches that he is familiar with, coaches that know how to treat players like adults and put them in the best position to win. I think he will excell. He will make our QB better and those around him better. He will make Braylon contributions pale by comparison. Best 5th pick investment in God knows how long. If the OL improves as much as our WR corps this year we might just be one QB away from keeping the competition on their heels. Damned good first move I say.
Even if what he's saying is true (which I doubt will be the case), we only surrendered a 5th round pick. I make this trade 10 times out of 10, and twice on Sunday's. Plus, Marshall wasn't healthy last season.
That's what I don't get about that article, if he was healthy all last year his numbers would have been par for the course but he says he is declining? BS
