yeah but do you also remember we resigned those old guys and let James Farrior go on to win a Super Bowl with the Steelers and play like another 6 years. Mo Lewis and Marvin Jones were old as fuck when we resigned them, I agree I hope we get 2 years with Harris that are very good. He is 31
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12432885/josh-mauga-signs-three-year-deal-kansas-city-chiefs He doesn't seem all that great. I'd rather pay Harris some more cash for the next 2 yrs then look at the 3rd year and look to cut him.
Love Harris, glad he is going to retire a member of the Jets. Captain of the defense, hits like a monster, big fucking dome, makes all the calls at the line, never injured, sure tackler, mean "If I was a NFL linebacker I would just watch videos of lions hunting." That's David Harris
Agreed. Harris weakness is a susceptibility to tripping over his own feet when speedy runners run misdirections in the middle of the field. There are ways to mitigate this. Otherwise, he's solid all around. Great teammate.
That's a possibility, and if it happens, then Foles has to be part of the package, but man I would hate to drop from the 6 pick to the 20th.
I like it. I'd much rather give a higher average value for shorter length of deal. 2 years @ $7.5mm is a solid deal for both Harris & the team. That's the kind of move you make when you have cap space now.
If it means adding 3 picks this year and 2 next year plus foles I think you'd be fine with it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
More like a statement that this new front office is looking to take care of their guys if they deserve it. Although, he has not been a fantastic, he is a model of consistency.
the perception of Harris suffered this year when Rex Ryan stubbornly still had him out there on 3 downs guarding speedy RBs, slot recievers, mismatched TEs, etc. It's possible Bowles might be smarter and could take him off the field on 3rd and distances or at least not try to mismatch his base defenses up with spread out offenses like Rex was obsessed with.
Apparently he's getting the "home town loyalty bonus" because he's been a great pro from Day 1. Unfortunately, I can't get the image of "52" chasing a tight end as he runs for 20+ out of my mind when I think about his repertoire of plays. Hope you're right above, BN
This is a direct result of Rex trading Kiko Alonso....immediately Harris had more leverage Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
happy david harris is back but ....we paid alot for him..and IMO lb's are pretty easy to find in the draft
Supposedly Bowles runs a very Rex-like defense. Tall, physical corners..lots of blitzing (even more than Rex from what Ive heard) So I would guess that the plan is to keep Harris as the play caller to keep the other guys comfortable. If they were going in a different direction with that I imagine he wouldn't have been brought back. Plus we dont have that veteran safety that could take over those duties either. Harris seems like the safe choice.
----we do not have that safety yet. but Bowles is a DB guy and I think he might want his safety calling the defense with everything in front of him.
Its possible. Maybe if we sign a McCourty he can be transitioned into that role. Could be an interesting development. A bigtime safety would solve a lot of problems with this defense.
Exactly. This is a good move. And it shows the new regime is serious about winning immediately (along with the brilliant trade for Brandon Marshall)!
