I totally agree with this .... However there is a chance .. And if you watched the interviews there is no denying MM handled them better and with more class. If a team was on the fence before the combine, I think they are still on the fence following the combine. Let's not forget Jameis had 18 INTs this year (and only 25 TDs) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
No one knows if Mariota is going to be good or not. We all pretty much know that Foles is decent and at the very least better than Geno Smith or any other Free Agent QB. Add in 2 1st Round picks and it seems very fair to me. Possibly even the Eagles are the doormat.
For me just picks arent enough because A) We draft badly historically and B) The eagles pick this year is a given and next year it'll be a low pick because they'll be good
[QUOTE="BleedGreen89, post: 3203511, member: 20014" B) The eagles pick this year is a given and next year it'll be a low pick because they'll be good[/QUOTE] Why will the Eagles be good? No QB as of now, they just traded McCoy and it looks like Maclin is headed to fr4ee agency. For a non playoff team that does not look like a winning recipe
I tend to agree with this. But while Foles is relatively low risk, it is also possible that Mariota has a higher ceiling. Is Foles good enough to win an SB with the right team around him? I think so, but I am not completely certain of that. Having said that, Mariota at least in theory has a potentially lower floor than Mariota. I think a criticla factor as Brad noted is that Kelly's desire to get Mariota, which for him makes sense, gives any team trading with him more leverage for a better deal. If you play your cards right, you can really take advantage.
Chances are if this is true they'd make this deal with another team who selects in front of the Jets. If true and Foles isn't a part of this deal maybe the Jets could get him in a separate deal for Cassel like compensation.
I'd guess that it's based on team needs and draft order. Tampa is at #1 and in definite need of a QB, so they take the best one available (in their opinion) which is projected to be Winston. Next up are Tenn, Jax, Oakland and Washington. None of them have a need to draft QB at this time. It wouldn't make any sense (unless Andrew Luck was available). But for each of these teams, they can choose the #1 ranked player at the position they are in need of. I mean, if you are picking #2 and are already "set" at QB, do you take Mariota just because he's there ? Or do you get the best player at another position such as the #1 WR in the draft ? Or the #1 DE ? Or the #1 OLB ? Or the #1 OT (positions that are worth spending a high 1st round pick on)? The Jets, being at #6 are somewhat in line for the 2nd best player at any position that you'd want to use a high draft pick for in this draft.
Obviously it is more expensive I just don't buy that they would want Mariotta so much but be willing to take the risk that he is drafted before the Jets yet think a team like the Jets who need a QB would be willing to trade out if him.
I disagree that Tennessee doesn't need a QB and I think that is the angle being taken by fans and the press to justify how Mariotta could fall to the Jets and sell the story of either the Jets getting Mariotta or making a blockbuster trade with the eagles.
I agree. The eagles trying to get a QB from a team that needs a QB is gonna cost them just as much as if they were trading up before the 6th pick, so why wait for the 6th pick?
It really all depends on what the Jets think of Mariota. If the Jets like him then they should take him. If they dont like him, then its not a bad idea to look to trade the pick to the best suitor. The Jets have to remember that they need a QB too, dont just trade the pick because the Eagles will offer so much.
If we strip the Eagles of everything they have - what makes people think a rookie QB would lead the Eagles past the Cowboys and maybe even the Giants? Eagles don't look like a playoff team to me. So if we do strip them of everything - we are going to get a decent pick - 18th at worst. We will have ammunition to get a QB in next year's draft (if Foles stinks up the joint) while rebuilding the roster THIS year. Foles + 2015 1st + 2015 2nd + 2016 1st + 2016 3rd. No, way in hell am I not saying no. I've been saying Mariota will be available OTC @ 6, because the Titans will take Williams from USC. Virtually the best player of the draft. Redskins won't trade with the Eagles.
This is interesting. We can give them a second rounder back for Foles and draft a receiver at 6. Win win.
There's a lot to be said for this approach, assuming the Jets can't get a deal for the 6 before they make it and that a player they love is not sitting there waiting to get picked. If they pass on a prospect they really love who is 6 quality in order to take Mariota they will regret it.
Good point - an Eagles team with a rookie QB, no McCoy, and possibly no Maclin probably wouldn't be very good. A 2016 1st from the Eagles could be very valuable.
Reports have been that Tennessee is happy with what they've seen out of Mettenberger thus far, and aren't in a hurry to bring on another QB.
