Bilal is a lot better than people realize. he should have been getting Johnson's touches last year. he and Ivory form a nice 1-2 punch
IMHO,the very first and last question we should ask when considering the myriad of high salary players hitting free agency this year should be purely and simply: 1- Is he young enough to grow with the team and help us improve or is he a now or never talent at the twilight of his career? Based on the answer my strategy would be simple If the answer is the latter we should in most cases stay away, on rare occasion when the need is imperative i.e. (a CB or FS) consider but not overpay for short term help, and under no circumstances loose precious picks to get him. Based on my simplistic criteria I would say stay away from Marshall. But then again what do I know.
If we had a qb I would like Marshall here. You can't tell me he's not worth 6 mill a year while harvin who has 52 catches in 2 seasons is getting 10.5 ... Trade for him and cutler.
just because harvin is getting 10.5 doesn't mean he should be...which is exactly why he wont be here in a couple of weeks. regardless, I'd like marshall but first would like to see a run at cobb or maclin.
I don't want Cobb.. I'm always leary of guys who play with great qbs.. Why I'm so impressed with deckers seasons.. 75 catches 14 and a 1/2 games with geno smith.. Are you kidding. Lol I think that's amazing.. As far as harvin, I hope you don't think I was justifying his salary. He's worth 3 mill a year imo
I'm not saying you're justifying it, but I don't get the point of saying harvin is set to make 10.5, when in reality he's not bc he's not worth that money. and FWIW, Cobb would be a much better option than marshall...he's younger, more explosive and has his best days ahead of him...although, if that doesn't happen bc it seems like Oakland will be going all out, I would have no problem if it came down to marshall.
He's made a few nice plays here and there. The tackle he broke behind the line of scrimmage late in the the final drive on MNF in Atlanta during Geno's rookie year to set up the GW FG was a critical play. He has good hands. But I don't see him as anything more than a 3rd or 4th string guy who you might sprinkle in here and there. He's not a guy who can fill in as a workhorse between the tackles guy and even strictly as a 3rd down back, he's nothing special. You would have to count the Jets' coaching staff and front office among those who don't realize how good he is. Because you don't pay 29-year old Chris Johnson $3.5 M if you think Bilal Powell is more than JAG.
he's not a big time guy but he's a nice compliment w/ the bruising style of Ivory. Powell will draw interest around the league. Young guy w/o a lot of carries in his legs who has shown flashes of being a good RB.
Bilal is on the higher end of JAG status...he's a top of the line JAG, but regardless the guy is a JAG. I simply cannot swallow a justification to not even attempt a run at Spiller bc of Bilal. I don't hate Bilal, I don't think he sucks, but he's limited in his ability. The ceiling just isn't that high.
I'm impressed with any guy who puts up numbers with shitty qbs.. To me deckers 75 catches with geno is more impressive than his 88 with manning. I don't know anything about jones stats with Carr. I'll look now
75 catches split between Geno and Vick (both equally shitty), while battling a hammy injury. Big picture, I was also very happy with Decker's production last year. Cobb isa talented player, Rodgers or no Rodgers. And IMO Cobb and Decker or Maclin and Decker would be good complements to each other.
I'd love Spiller, I think not only would he be a great compliment to Ivory but he can do many of the things Harvin does so we'd save there BUT he hasn't proven to be the most durable and will cost a lot more than Powell. Just things to think about.
I have to admit, Decker exceeded my expectations big-time. He performed like a legit high-end WR2 when healthy. One of the few good moves in the Idzik regime, and something to build on for '15.
spiller's role here will be very different....the guy had an ankle injury which he should have rested but instead played on all year. then a freak collarbone. his durability doesn't concern me.
if you expect bilal to get anything more than JAG money with the likes of Murray, Ryan Mathews, Spiller and more on the market you have unreasonable expectations. Bilal isn't a bad player, but he's simply a JAG and if he wasn't a Jet we'd all be saying the same thing. He's a reliable JAG. I'd compare him to Chris Polk.
