I'd trade for him. Mid round pick will rarely be as talented as Marshal. He would instantly make our WR group ten times better. Big receiver with amazing hands!
His QBs in Miami were Chad Henne, Tyler Thigpen, and Matt Moore. A lot of good players are on teams that don't make the playoffs. Andre Johnson didn't make the playoffs until his 9th year in the league.
he had very good Ds and good enough talent around him on O. you don't need great QBs to make the playoffs. Johnson played on one team, we have seen Marshall fail w/ 3 different teams and numerous different QBs.
I'd make the trade and draft a wr as well I've watched him closely. He's not done. He lost targets to an emerging wr and after getting more targets when that wr was hurt after recovering from an ankle injury, he punctured his lung. But if WR production of 118 /1,508 /11 in 2012 and 100/1,295 /12 in 2013 is "failing" there is no argument by your logic that could be made for success. Except I suppose to say that a guy like Ricardo Lockette is a good receiver and a "success" because the Seahawks have been making the playoffs. Individually he was great but his teams lacked something despite being very talented. he has issues off the field that I know he is working on so I feel bad for mentioning them but you have to mention them. something always comes up with this player. If I could sign him as a FA w/o a lot guaranteed so I could cut him if he screws up I take that chance but to trade a pick and inherit a big contract makes little sense.
The report says it would take a mid-round pick. If it's a 4th rounder, in Jet land you are talking the equivalent of Bilal Powell.
the pick is not the issue, it's the cap space. I know we have tons but that doesn't mean you don't spend it wisely.
Brandon is a special case. He's definitely matured a lot over the last few years which I commend. However, he's got an extremely fragile psyche and I worry that he's not the type of teammate we need in a young locker room. I'm not saying he's a bad teammate. I just think he's high maintenance and requires a lot of attention. I don't think the Jets need to invest so much time in babying him. I'd rather find a young WR in the draft or a different option in FA. Pass.
If we kept him at his current contract, his maximum cap hit would reach a little over $10 million in 2017. And I doubt his contact remains the same if he came here A cap hit of $10 million and a 4th Round pick for Brandon Marshall? Yeah, sign me up immediately!

You can't blame lack of playoff appearances on a receiver. The guys job is to get open and catch the football, he does that, at a highly productive rate. I'm not saying I want him on the team but the Tebow example isn't a good one. Randy Moss was a guy who drama seemed to follow, Terrell Owens as well. Both of those guys played in Super Bowls.
Moss was a guy w/ drama but he helped teams win. he was worth the drama, I don't blame Marshall for never getting to postseason but he's a divisive force in the LR and many talented teams he has played on have not made the playoffs when they should have.
