Says here it would only take a mid-round pick to pry him away. 7.5 M is his cap charge for 2015. Get it done, Macc. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3653/brandon-marshall
If we took Cutler off their hands maybe they would give us Marshall for free. Hell, let's throw Harvin into the deal.
If he is released, he could sign anywhere. It's a free for all. Lock him up with a trade offer now. The Bears are looking to free up cap space now before the FA frenzy begins. The $7.5 M cap charge is palatable.
Marshall is an outstanding talent but bad things seem to follow him around no matter where he plays. I would say maybe getting away from the awful Cutler at QB would help but even w/ talented Miami teams he never saw a postseason game.
This was posted in the WR possibilities thread earlier but since we will have a thread for each of them I'll chime in over here. I think you trade for him if interested, would save $ as he is only scheduled to make 7.7 this year. Not to mention it eliminates the competition.
Agreed, but he has also never really played on a team with a defense. The Bears' D the last 2 years has been bottom barrel.
This is just one scenario but... We have enough money to pick up Marshall and also reel in Cobb. And sign the top TE in FA. Then at #6 take Mariota or Fowler or trade back. Week 1 offense: X - Marshall / Cobb Slot - Cobb / Marshall Z - Decker TE - Charles Clay / Jordan Cameron RB - Ivory, Spiller / Helu QB - Mariota
So you are going to not only get Marshall AND Cobb but you are also going to pay Clay $8+ mil? Thanks but no thanks.
Macc could get creative by offering a longer-term deal that averages less per year but with more guaranteed money (or more in reasonable incentives). It's inside-the-box thinking to assume Clay and his agent are only looking to beat the $7.1 M on the table from Miami for 2015. I think it's more about the amount the total guaranteed $$$ for these players than anything else.
Forgetting Brandon Marshall...getting old, injury prone, causes problems. No thanks. I sure as hell wish we drafted Alshon Jeffery
Clay has the transition tag, the Dolphins have to pay him more than $7.5 mil and have the right to match any higher offer.
Not a good time for the Bears to make him available. Getting older and coming off an injury. Still has talent but not worth the money plus any type of pick with all the talent at WR available this offseason. He's becoming available for a reason.
It's actually not $7.5 but $7.071 M. I am aware of how the transition tag works. My point is it wouldn't necessarily take a $7.5 M cap hit for 2015 to sign him, depending on the length and terms of the deal. Also, in my post you initially responded to I had "Clay / Cameron" at TE. I would be happy with Cameron also. 7 M for Clay would be a lot to swallow. I don't know if he's worth that, but he's a very good player, a complete TE who is a versatile offensive piece for any OC.
There's a reason Marshall has had minimal success.... He's bat shit crazy, and will distract his team with his antics....... I'd rather stay at 6 and get either Cooper/ Kevin White.....
he left Denver an they won w/ Tim Tebow Miami had good D's there's more to a player than just production.
