Sanchez is a FA or will be when FA opens soon.

Cassell is better than Matt Moore which isn't saying much.

Well, I can't comment on the doucheface bit, but he's head and shoulders above Manuel and Geno.

I'm not saying I'm making him my franchise QB, I just think he would have been a more inspiring pickup than say Ryan Fitzpatrick or Christian Ponder.

Hard to kill this trade until we know the compensation. He's not Johnny Unitas, but he's a lot better than any QB the Jets have trotted out there in the last couple of years.

Yes, but he's not yet and we don't know whether Kelly makes a move to retain him.

It's like 2 years ago with Mark--he got strung out until after all the slots were filled. I'm guessing Ryan didn't want to miss out on a sure thing with Mallett. Too bad, I would have liked to have seen Sanchez in Buffalo.

Plenty of stop-gaps available via FA. IMO no point in trading a pick for Cassell trash. Cassell just like Geno Smith won't win you any games, Geno might lose some games due to his ineptitude so I can see what you are saying in regards to Cassell being somewhat of an upgrade, but if I had a choice between trading for Cassell or starting Geno Smith, I'd prob start Geno Smith - cheaper option. Brian Hoyer another name out there that we could look into as well - maybe you bring him and Jordan Cameron to the Jets.

Its debatable, they both are poor QBs for the most part

I guess that's the point. And he's MUCH better than Manuel too--which is what's really more pertinent to the Bills.

There are plenty of stop gaps but none of them are very good. And you're going to have to PAY Hoyer and commit to him.

Mallett is better than Geno, the 5th rounder would not have bothered me.

he will be a FA day 1 this year unlike last year when Idzik held onto him for a month and he was coming off of major shoulder surgery. he'll have a chance to start somewhere or he may re-sign w/ Philly. their issue was not on O or at QB last year, it was w/ that awful D. It doesn't sound like Kelly likes Foles and he may opt to try to keep Mark.

for Mark I would have liked to see him in Buf, for the Jets I am glad that won't happen.

Matt Cassel probably is the richest 7th rounder ever drafted.

Has earned over $70 million in his career. Wow

How much you really think Hoyer is going to command? 2 or 3 yr deal works, similar to McCown. Hoyer will have to compete with Geno while a potential rookie QB gets redshirted. Even when the young QB is ready, I wouldn't mind having Hoyer as our backup for insurance.

    I don't want to trade a 5th rounder for a stop-gap QB. That's just me tho

Well, the Pats franchised him one year.

I firmly disagree with you about this--Orton is decent and outside NE, Cassell isn't.

I too would like to have Hoyer, but at this point it's too early to tell what he's going to command. He may view himself as a franchise guy and teams have a lot of $$ to overspend on a QB. Would you want Hoyer if he's looking for a 5-6 year commitment with a bunch of upfront money? Whether he gets it or not is another question, but there may be a bidding war for him. Not one I want to overspend on.

The safe move for Rex and a ground and pound offense is grabbing Mallett when he could.

Again, I wouldn't have hated giving up a 5th rounder to have him be our starter for a year and then a backup.

Orton is awful, he will put up some decent #s in garbage times to fool people. Cassell outside of NE won a div title.

it's Cassel not Mallett.. big difference in age, skill set, potential, everything..

and there isn't going to be a bidding war for Hoyer. He's not getting a 5-6 commitment with a bunch of money upfront so it's a moot point. The only good thing he does is get the ball out quickly. Other than that he pretty much stinks too. Teams know this about him.
