Let some other team overpay for Spiller who can't stay healthy and is nearing the age that RBs fall off. This year is stacked at RB, and also pass rusher, no way should the Jets be looking at either of those positions in FA Just like last year when they should have been drafting QB and WR early. Re-sign Powell, he's a good all around back, the few people saying he's not good are typically wrong about everything
Spiller has only missed significant time 1 season the rest he never missed more then 2 games averages 5 yards per carry If we can get him on a good contract he is a good player especially as a 3rd down change of pace back
"Games played" is actually a very skewed number for Spiller. There were quite a few games where he tweaked something and missed most of the game. I had Spiller in a keeper league, so I got to see plenty of games were he left with 4 carries or something like that.
Spiller would be a nice piece however the Jets currently are not competitive for the Super Bowl and signing Spiller won't get them closer to being that competitive. I think the Jets should try to sign him to a reasonable contract. If the Jets lose him to a bidding war, that's ok. The focus for building the roster right now needs to be on QB, OL, pass rushers, and playmakers in the secondary.
Spiller would be a great, no brainer pick up for this team. He won't be overly expensive, he would provide something we haven't had since freakin Curtis Martin- a RB that can do damage as a receiver and would pair nicely with Ivory. Spiller is everything Ivory is not- really great in space, speedy burst with quick acceleration, great hands, patient, albeit a little soft overall and unreliable between the tackles. & vice versa: Ivory is everything Spiller isn't: Very hard runner, good between the tackles, refuses to be brought down by one guy, but missing that "3rd gear" and can't catch a cold. They would make a great pair & it would be a savvy first signing for Maccagnan.
For some reason this link doesn't include when he broke his collarbone in mid October 2014 but you get the gist http://www.kffl.com/player/22484/nfl/injury_history/c.j.-spiller Select "all years" and click "display"
And this is further proof Tom Brady is then injury prone. He's listed with an injury every week. What does this tell me? Lol
For once, we completely agree. I even made the Curtis Martin comparison earlier in this thread, or at least in some other thread we were talking about Spiller. No-brainer. Make it happen Mike Mac.
Let's forget about this past season because that's the one year he got injured. We aren't talking about people labeling him as getting injured, but rather "injury prone". So let's look at him before his one injury: From 2010-2013 he played in 61 games. In those years, he was listed as questionable 4 times and out once. That's injury prone? Lmao
Comparing the Patriots blatantly manipulating the injury report to Spiller's obvious injury history is being purposely obtuse. Plus you just said in the McCoy thread that 26 years is "not young" and Spiller is a year older than him.
26 is not young to give up a pro bowl linebacker in his third year. 26 is not young to have a $10+ million cap hit. 26 is not young for a featured back to take majority carries. Plus tell me how any of that relates to Spiller?
That's not even close to the context of the post you responded to in other thread, I'm going to stop with you because you clearly aren't capable of having a logical debate
Really? Let me remind you. Here is what I posted in the other thread: "This whole trade is a HUGE loss for Buffalo. Buffalo is not a running back away from playoff contention. They are in the same predicament we are in, no QB. Trading for a guy who will be 27 years old coming off an injury at a position of low value in the current league, is ridiculous. The cap number is HUGE and giving away a linebacker who will likely go on to have a tremendous career is ridiculous. Especially one who is only going into his third year." So please, how is this "not even close to the context" of the post I made? This was a huge loss FOR BUFFALO. This post is in relation to the trade for a 27 year old running back coming off an injury with a huge cap number vs a third year pro bowl linebacker. Notice how I also said "trading for a guy" to start my sentence? Interesting...
Not talking about your context issue with Kelly, but I think the trade was a win win. Rex likes his defenders large and physical. Kiko is good and will be good for Philly, but he wasn't the best fit for how Rex likes his D built. So they parlayed that good piece into a playmaker who will make the offense not suck as much, which is always a concern with Rex. You're right that they don't have a QB, but if they manage to find one the Bills will be a scary good team.
I disagree. With the amount of players coming out of the draft at RB and the big name free agents that will likely be available, why would you trade away a young guy with such amazing talent? I don't agree with it at all. Kiko Alonso will be a great linebacker for years to come. How long will McCoy last?
Rex is not and never was concerned with the long view. He'll mortgage his soul if he thinks it will result in winning the Super Bowl now. From his point of view, the Bills are the clear cut #2 in the AFC East, and he has the blueprint for beating the Pats. The QB is still a problem, and likely will continue to be. That's why Rex is now a Bill and not a Jet.
