I agree. Use the $ for guys already established on the OL and in the Defensive Backfield, positions that for the most part involve development
Can't disagree with this either but Spiller is a good fit. I would be happy with either Spiller or a RB in the draft.
Impossible to tell obviously, but RBs typically break down around 30, and 1800ish touches. He is 27 with 688 career touches. I can see him lasting til age 32 or so because of his limited touches so far in his career. Injury questions are the biggest factor in this situation.
This OL does move people well. He could help here. The injuries could have taken something from him. Would not overspend here.
I don't want to get too crazy and overpay, but I think Macc should do his best to lock up Harris now before he hits FA. Rex and Tannenbaum are gonna be all over him. With Alonso gone, Buffalo just lost a tackling machine.
The collarbone last year was a freak injury. The high ankle sprain the year before was also. I think the injury prone label on Spiller is somewhat unfair. CJ could have rested up the ankle and let it heal fully but chose to try and play through it. He is a competitor and wanted to be there for his teammates. Also the OC Hackett continued to feature 33-year old F-Jax. CJ wasn't given the touches, even before he went down. The touches he did get were not out in space but trying to bang him between the tackles, which isn't his game.
They should cut Harvin, retain the 4th and go guns a blazin after Maclin or Crabtree. Then still try to sign Harvin. Normally this would be an asinine suggestion but we have $55 freakin million. RB should be down the list of priorities imo.
Tell me about it. As a common Spiller Fantasy owner, it's been all too frustrating. Nothing against Fred Jackson, but he is not as good as Spiller by any stretch of the imagination. I like F-Jax too, but I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for F-Jax to retire so Spiller can blow up, and I could get him in the 10th round or something lol. Him being a FA, and coming to my real life team and starting here for the Jets would be obviously a lot more ideal, and exciting.
i'm not one to believe that proven vet RB's with pro production can be easily replaced by just any ole running back from the back of the draft and that they're not worth a contract if they hit their late twenties. I think thats a lot of fallacies. I think that if one were to look a bit closer they'd see that while yes some RB's from the lower parts of the draft produce in a big way (hi Bell!), its no guarantee that they'll provide nearly as much as a man who's already shown he has it in a position where you do or don't. oh and getting spiller would in no way stop us from drafting an RB in rd 3 or something regardless. we aren't aching for cash, we can afford Spiller and whats more he'd probably be easily cut sooner than later anyway. if he wants to come here I say let him come, never underestimate the power of a second chance or a player happy to be here.. give him 4-5 mil a year, some incentives for playing time or yards, and don't look back. we need another vet RB we shouldn't rely on some hope that a rookie RB can give us the production he can. once again we can do both. heres what I offer: a 4 year 15.5-20 million dollar deal. big discrepancy, but heres what I'm thinking he receives a 5 million dollar roster bonus due a week after signing in 2015 (#capfloorproblems)and receives a 3.5 million dollar base salary the following 3 years. he will receive a 31.25k per game bonus, due after every time he's activated, for a total of 500k added on top of his base salary each year. he receives a 500k escalator to his base salary the next year if he reaches a total of 1k yards from scrimmage or a 1 million dollar escalator if he gets 1.5k yards from scrimmage. all thats guaranteed is his roster bonus (and I guess his 2015 vet min base salary)his cap hit would be about 6-7 million this year, and 4 the next 3 years if he doesn't hit his incentives(4.5-5 if he does) if he hits every mark he makes nearly 20 million, but he has to earn it and stay healthy to do so. team friendly, CJ friendly. make it happen Mac.
I'd rather resign Powell and have him and Ivory as the RB tandem in 2015, with Richardson as the 3rd back.
I have no problem with powell...but CJ Spiller is far more talented. I can't understand preferring Powell. Would I be upset if it ends up Powell? No. But I would definitely prefer Spiller. He brings an entirely different element to the table.
Reports are that AZ/MIA/PHI/NYJ in the Spiller mix with some growing doubt the Jets are interested, outside of media stir.
