I should created this thread under the presumption Harvin is gone. IF Harvin is gone then going into this draft sans a WR would not only broadcast our pick at #6 it could put us in a position to lose out on a blue chip player in Mariota, Fowler..... If you take Mariota then Decker and Kerley are his corps. Fact is with Harvin probably leaving WR becomes a big need heading into the off season unless the majority of us think that we are going to pay Harvin his 10.5 and give up our 4th.
I didn't say it, I saw it in a number of mock drafts. Best case is one of those 4 doesn't go then the decision is easy.
It's a non issue, some of the best OLBs are around 260/270. Not sure where NCJetsfan was going with that.
I can't believe my response posted. On my screen it didn't like it ever posted. I like Scherff, don't get me wrong, but I don't think an OG is worthy of a #6 pick, I don't care if he can play multiple positions. Now to play RT I might consider taking him there if I thought he was the BPA, but even that is high for a RT imo.
He was listed somewhere at 277 and one of the scouting reports mentioned his fluctuating weight. I'm not say he will but if he's had weight issues its something to consider. Maybe a mute point and the kid stays at 260 but everything needs to be considered.
I think your posts are like duplicating? Hahah. I wouldn't be jumping for joy for Scherff, he can't play LT - though I think Mayock actually believes he can, but he doesn't have the lateral quickness you want going up against Speed Rushers. I think he could be an all-pro G easily. He could be an elite RT also. I don't think he would necessarily be the BPA, but he could help transform the offensive line.

Huh? This is NCJetsfan, and I'm not the one who said he would go up to 290. I was disputing that. I know that many of the best OLBs are in the 260/270 range and as I said, Rex wanted them around 280.
I agree that everything needs to be considered. The Jets need to thoroughly vet every prospect on their board for potential hidden problems like weight issues, work ethic, character, etc.
I am reluctant to post what I am about to say, since it comes more under the heading of sharing feelings than info or opinions. But I have a hard time getting into the subject of wideout options so long as the Jets run the signficant risk of bringing Smith back as the starting Qb. In which case it hardly matters who the WR's are.
I love talking about the WRs with the assumption Smith won't be the starting QB. I can't imagine we go into the season with Smith being our only option. There are so many possibilities out there even though I don't agree with all of them, Mariota, Glennon, Cutler, Bradford, Fitzpatrick.... I am excited that whoever is slinging the rock could have an exceptional receiving core, improved offensive line and game breaker at RB. There are some big name WRs that could be available, some that will be available and some amazing draft prospects so the conversation of who we end up with is fascinating to me.
I wish I could share your optimism. I even get your reasoning, and certainly hope you are right. But I am a Jet fan, and history teaches that too often what can go wrong will. Until the FO has made a move at Qb, I am going to be skeptical. Don't let that stop the party, though.
chicken or the egg brotha. If we avoid acquiring crazy skill at the WR spot b/c of Geno, then we may avoid getting a top QB b/c he'd have no one to throw to. Gotta start somewhere unless you can get a tom brady and a megatron in the same swoop. same thing applies to OL. Doesn't make sense investing there until you have a QB worth protecting, but since it can take 3 drafts to re-stock the OL you may want to get 'er done so when you DO get a QB worth protecting, he's protected.
That's kind of hard because from a pure athlete stand point, Harvin is in another league. IMO The WR's that I think remind me some of Harvin are.... Devin Smith, Phillip Dorsett, Tyler Lockett to name a few. I don't know if you ever go to this website but... www.draftbreakdown.com They have a ton of film on a lot of the players coming out of college this year, It's worth a look if you are curious to draw your own conclusions on some of these guys.
