History shows whether there is a significant difference in success from teams who had more options drafting 1 or 3 versus 5 or 6. It's a simple exercise to defend your position. How many Super Bowl winners in recent history drafted 1 or 2 within 5 or 10 years of winning. Surely an overwhelming amount would have done so if having greater amount of options matter. The facts don't support that argument because there are more than enough great players on a draft for any team drafting in the top 10 to get one.
I posted about SB winning QBs yesterday, let's look at the SB losing QBs today(I won't put losing QB that eventually won a SB): Daryle Lamonica released by team that drafted him Earl morrall released by team that drafted him Joe Kapp released by team that drafted him Billy Kilmer released Fran Tarkenton 3rd rd Craig Morton released Vince Ferragamo 4th rd Ron Jaworski released Ken Anderson 3rd rd David Woodley 8th rd Tony Eason 1st rd Boomer Esiason 2nd rd Jim Kelly 1st rd Stan Humphries released Neil O'Donnell 3rd rd Drew Bledsoe 1st rd Chris Chandler released Steve McNair 1st rd Kerry Collins released Rich Gannon released Jake Delhomme released Matt Hasslebeck trade Rex Grossman 1st rd Colin Kaepernick 2nd rd out of 24 QBs only 5 were drafted in 1st rd by team they reached SB with.
Sure, let's ignore Rogers and Brees and Flacco and Roethlesberger and Wilson. The only Super Bowl winning QBs in the last 19 years to have been drafted in the top 5 are Manning, Manning, Elway and Dilfer. But, oh no, we are drafting sixth !!!!!!
Again, you are arguing retrospectively and I am arguing prospectively. Would YOU rather be drafting higher or lower? In every round? Given your druthers--would you rather have the 3rd pick this year? Or the 6th? Or the 10th? In every round? If draft position truly does not matter, why, then, DOES it matter? History may not support any hypothesis but history is irrelevant when talking about future results. No one can logically argue that you'd RATHER have a lower pick in every round than a higher pick--especially now with the way the rookie wage scale works. _
I'd rather have a lower pick than a higher pick b/c it means my team was better than the teams w/ lower picks. I hope we draft 32nd every year.
It's one thing to like a higher draft pick when you need a QB, it's another thing to call a large number of fans douches because they wanted to see their football team win while you were rooting for them to lose.
I have never once said that we need to draft a QB top 5. Not once. That's a red herring. I look at drafts as singular events. In 2013, there was NO QB to draft. In ANY round. Last year there were several in MANY rounds. This year there are only TWO. And both may be gone in the top 3-5. So THIS year I would have preferred to be top 3. The wins were MEANINGLESS in my humble opinion because of the value I personally put on the 2 players at the most important position in sports. But sure, let's pass on Winston and/or Mariota so we can grab a really good player later on. Nice win against the Fins. And Tennessee. Again, nice red herrings there. _
I wasn't calling them douches because we were on the cusp of making the playoffs. We ended up 4-12 instead of 3-13 or 2-14. In the playoff hunt--win every game. Out of the playoffs weeks before Halloween and wins are meaningless. _
we have no idea if there are 2 this year. There may be 2, there may be 4, there may be 0- we don't know.
I couldn't give a single shit how any Jets fan roots. I know for me thinking that Mariota is the next great QB in the NFL I would feel a lot better about our chances at 2 or 4 than 6. I certainly don't feel any better about our season at 4-12 than I would have at 2-14 or 3-13.
i couldnt agree more. there are certain things i just cant do. letting the dolphins win is one of them. being happy they won is one of htem. even in the leanest of years if we beat the fucking dolphins twice i hvae some semblance of happiness. these young folks just dont understand the hatred for hte dolphins.
Flying unicorns will fill the sky and we will orgasm uncontrollably for a full week while delivery men bring General Tso chicken to our doors every 30 minutes
The Dolphins bags were packed and their minds were on their morning tee times. I hate the Dolphins more than any team in the league but beating them didn't hurt their chances for anything. Honestly though I didn't mind that game as much as the Tenn win. At least we played well vs the Dolphins and it was the Dolphins. The Tennessee game we looked like a pop warner team, it was painful to watch and the outcome was painful
the dolphins fought hard the week before when they were eliminated, we didn't prevent them from making playoffs like 2013 but Miami fought for a while in the game.
But I'm not talking about your specific position, I'm talking about the specific red herring being perpetrated in this thread by others claiming that you do need that top pick to secure future success that picking 6th cannot provide.
Jet fans will need more patience then ever, because he won't (or shouldn't) see the field right away. Other then that, no immediate impact from our first round pick YR 1.
