Ok we obviously need a WR and there is posts popping up in a lot of different threads but it is one of the topics I enjoy discussing most so I am looking forward to some debate. There is some names that have not been talked about much so I wanted to focus on guys that could be cut namely Mike Wallace, Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall types. Free agents like Cobb, Shorts, Jones, T. Smith..... Or prefer to draft one and who is better White or Cooper? Who is this years Martavius Bryant going later in the draft. I believe we will probably let Percy walk but even if we don't we will need to find another WR and with our Cap and draft position I don't think there is any doubt we will upgrade the position so who wants what?!?

There's very little point in signing a free agent WR over 29 or so. Really there's very little point in signing a free agent WR over 26 or so but that's a topic for another thread.
I disagree, I think if we are able to keep Harvin as the slash receiver or get someone like shorts than a guy like Marshall would be perfect across from Decker and that would give us great red zone options with Decker and Marshall.
I'm honestly more excited about the WR prospects in this draft, then the WR that will be available in F/A this year. In all honesty, I think there are 12-14 WR prospects in this draft that could make significant contributions to their teams. That is impressive depth at that position in this draft. Amari Cooper - Alabama Kevin White - West Virginia DeVante Parker - Louisville Dorial Greene-Beckham - Oklahoma Jaelen Strong - Arizona State Devin Smith - Ohio State Phillip Dorsett - Miami (Fla.) Sammie Coates - Auburn Nelson Agholor - USC Devin Funchess - Michigan Tyler Lockett - Kansas State Jamison Crowder - Duke Justin Hardy - East Carolina Breshad Perriman - UCF Rashad Greene - Florida State Ty Montgomery - Stanford These are my favorites, in order. All of these guys are guys that could play a significant role for their team on offense. I love this WR class, I like the overall depth better than last years, which might sound crazy, but I do.
At the risk of sounding like a math challenged dummy, I don't think it's very realistic to think the Jets could afford both Harvin and Marshall, even with the amount of cap space they have this year.
That's kind of why I threw Shorts in there as an alternative. Marshall is 30 so I can't see him commanding top dollar but I could be wrong. I still think it's possible as long as we are able to lure Harvin back for less after we let him walk. I don't know a lot of these names beyond Dorsett. Which ones might be able to be had later that have some speed and Harvin type skill set if he does leave?
I'm with meandean on this topic, I want them to draft one of the guys he mentioned. I don't want Harvin at anywhere near his price tag nor do I want an aging Andre Johnson, Marshall etc. on a team that in all likelihood won't have a good QB. Its like buying a $1mm Bugatti for your wife / GF who a) doesn't drive fast b) doesn't like small cars and c) can't drive a stick. What's the point of signing a high priced WR when there is no one to throw the ball to him. Its the same dumb move Tanny made getting Santonio Holmes. I'm sure this front office isn't dumb enough to fall in love with a high priced WR when they can get a very good one in the draft. FA is about plugging holes with players that will help you win now. Andre Johnson etc. isn't helping this team this year.
I definitely agree with Johnson and I am not high on Wallace or T. Smith, Jones... and I am all for drafting White or Cooper at 6 (even though I would prefer Fowler) but we would still need a WR if (more like when) Percy walks. If the draft is deep at WR then get an OLB in the first maybe Hundley/Petty in the second and one of the WRs you mentioned in the third but you can't expect them to come in and be the #2 right away. We need to sign a free agent WR unless they are dead set on drafting White or Cooper who would be expected to be the #2 guy right from the jump but I would hate to see them go into the draft with Decker and maybe Kerley as our WRs
From everything I've seen it looks like both QB's, White and Cooper will be gone by the time the Jets pick in the draft. If not they should take one of those 4 otherwise I'd love to see them drop down a few picks in return for another team's 1st and 2nd rd pick or a 1st and 3rd/4th depending on the slotting. That allows them to pick up a guy like Petty with the extra pick while still getting a very good player in rd 1.
If we part ways with Harvin then WR becomes a major need. Right now it's not a major need. I do like Harvin's speed and versatility.
I think with or without Harvin WR is a huge need. Obviously it's bigger without Harvin but with Harvin always comes injuries. Once the inevitable Harvin injury happens we are back left with Decker and Decker only.
Problem is if all those guys are gone than no one will want to trade with us because those are the guys they would be targeting and if all those guys are gone then Fowler would be there at six so you take him. If someone trades with us at that point it would be for an OLB which is what we need anyway so why trade out.
Then when we went 8-8 or 9-7 for other reasons we'd be screwed in 2016, which is the year the new regime should be aiming hard at,
Without a QB I don't see WR as a "major" need w/o Harvin here. A need, yes but not major. There are very good WR's in the draft, the Jets may even be able to get 2 in this draft that will contribute as solid WR's for years. Filling the Harvin void for this year can be done in FA without breaking the bank.
Agreed, that's why I started this thread. I think we sign a FA WR and draft one. Either a stud in FA, later draft pick (Ex: Cobb/Dorsett) or vice versa (Ex: Shorts/Cooper)
We also need to develop/add talent to the receiving corps. Not like I'm saying any of these guys are great but Salas was decent, and Owusu looked decent at the end of the year. The wild card could be Shaq Evans. Plus we still have proven guys like Decker, Kerley and Amaro.
I think we need a 2 and 3 WR, if Harvin is back he can fill one of them but I would consider it unlikely he is back.
I'm okay with drafting a WR if Harvin is gone. If he's here that's a waste, unless he's absolutely the best player available. If we keep Harvin we can fill other needs like OLB, or OT.
