If a team is going to spread its offense you better have the right sub package. Look what NE did to Seattle stringing their LB out wide. But you are right, David is a 2 downer. That is why he must take a lot less. If he goes that is fine with me. But I would rather replace Pace and Coples right away. Cope should be inside at tackle.

If you have good athletic linebackers you don't need to sub as much and are less susceptible to teams like Denver running all over you if they read a light box. Seattle can leave Wagner and either Malcolm Smith/KJ Wright on the field to help cover. The latter two aren't the greatest coverage backers but David Harris might be the worst.

Name me 3 MLBrs who a great tacklers and also excellent in coverage, especially against the new age TEs. Our own Demario Davis was supposed to be one but has not developed yet.

Davis was the first one I though of, he has about as many tackles as Harris.

Very overrated and overpaid his whole career but unless you've got a better option this is a must do.
LBer is a huge position of need for us.

and all of the sudden the bears and falcons are interested, Hitman's got a market…

hard to tell how this plays out.we're looking at paying a defensive anchor a bit more than he's worth for the sake of keeping him off the market. I cant see a 3 mil or less a year deal being accepted for instance. he's got to get paid more like a starter with value and less like a non-everydown player, even if he isn't.

that said 4-5 mill a year is fair given this trait of thought, its just a matter of assorting the actual cash spent and guarantees.

He made 5 million cash in hand last year, so maybe giving him a similar amount again will be enough to keep him, irregardless of HOW its distributed. a fully guaranteed base salary, a buffed up roster bonus to be collected at the beginning of the new league year, a signing bonus/base salary combo where he makes a desired amount, whatever.

something that gets him a decent amount TODAY, probably followed by lower base salary totals next year, or any year after.

2015- vet min base salary, 5 million dollar roster bonus
    2016- 3.5 million dollar base salary (un-guaranteed)
    or maybe
2015-3.5 million dollar base salary (guaranteed) 1.5 mil prorated
2016- 2.5 million dollar base salary (un-guaranteed) 1.5 mil prorated.

I don't understand why you guys don't work for the league office. You all can seriuosly crunch numbers! I don't even know how to analyze the Harris.

    And now there's this:

    Dolphins Reportedly Interested in Harris

    Wednesday, Feb. 25

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins are among the teams interested in Jackson:
The Dolphins have told multiple people that they want to add a starting linebacker, and they’re expected to pursue the Jets’ David Harris, 31, who had 123 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2014 and is considered the best free agent inside linebacker.
Mike Tannenbaum, the Dolphins’ president/football operations, drafted Harris out of Michigan in the second round in 2007, when he was the Jets’ GM.
Though Harris played inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense with the Jets, he has the skills to play middle linebacker in a 4-3.
Miami is one of the teams that is believed to appeal to Harris, but it remains unclear how high the Dolphins will go in the bidding. If the Dolphins are outbid for Harris, they have interest in Tampa Bay free agent Mason Foster, 25, who has started 57 games with six sacks and five interceptions in four years for Tampa and was drafted by the Buccaneers when Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey worked there.

this is a major threat, and i can honestly see it happening.

I think Miami gives Harris decent money, they are ahead of us development wise, he can stay in division, the market there fits his personality and it's warm weather. It's a good spot for Harris. I expect the market in general to be very broad for Harris, putting our chances pretty low at retaining him. JMO.

Harris plays well when he's not put into coverage like Rex did.

I wouldn't bring him back for a huge amount. They overpaid him incredibly a couple years ago. The only thing is that Rex Ryan is going to want to bring Harris to Buffalo and might be willing to overpay for him even though the Jets have a superior cap situation.

It that's the case and Harris goes to Buffalo for more money, then so be it. He's not worth overpaying even if he's good. There's a couple AZ linebackers in FA that I like and I think Bowles might try to bring over.

Yeah because you justified anything you said. Come on guy, every part of your post was panic based just like every post you make. Aside from your panicked take, what basis do you have for thinking the Dolphins sign him? Other than Miami being a division rival?

I thought you put me on ignore?

I like Harris. But I wouldn't break the bank for him, I would try to plug in a younger guy. he's getting slower each year and is a 2 down player. I'm not panicked over this, if he goes he goes.

David Harris can't play the pass, that is a fact. If the Jets sign him back, he shouldn't be allowed to call plays, he sucks at it. Let him be a hole stopper, not a serious piece, he's not good at that. The defense has always sucked when he was making calls
