seriously? what a fuckin waste of bandwidth & time. I feel sorry for you that you went and found all the SB winners for your stupid ass point... which isn't even true in many of those cases and has nothing to do with the present/future anyway
Hey, don't knock the Redneck 401K plan buddy... Every now and then, people do get lucky. I don't often associate luck with the Jets however, with this new Scouting Dept and GM, sitting at 2 is better than 4 and 4 is better than 6. What I am saying is that sometimes, you have to lose the battle to win the war. Lets agree to disagree on this..
Except your scenario is not at all relevant, not even close, because the chances of drafting a franchise QB are much better than the chances of winning the lottery.... Provided you don't screw yourselves by winning meaningless Dec games of course
Why would I want to drag myself into his pathetic argument? At least you offer some substance, even if I disagree with you
for your info, it took about a minute and posted them based on memory. nothing to look up. Just countering your asinine points., You couldn't do it that's why, you'd rather take a shot at me than try to debate w/ me buit I understand why.
whining that our team played hard with nothing on the line..... just wow.. guess some fans will just whine about anything.
Thanks for the compliment but I don't buy it guy, you stated there were many cases where those Super Bowl winners tanked, who were they? Stick up for yourself. I'm not a fan of the guy you are arguing with so I'd like to see you win this one.
he can't do it, all he can do is hurl insults at more knowledgeable posters than him. He is truly the Browning Nagle of posters on the board.
"Tanking" isn't something that is quantifiable. There isn't an argument to be had there. For every example I would pick there is an equal argument that they weren't "tanking" and because it's really a matter of opinion as to what "tanking" actually is, theres no way to actually prove it either way. Tanking is also very subtle. Earlier this week I set forth the example that the Jets could've "tanked" by placing Wilkerson on the IR after he was injured in week 12 instead of rushing him back for the last 2 games, of which he had 2 sacks and certainly helped the Jets beat Miami... That's happened a lot in the past with teams but isn't looked at as tanking it's seen as an injury. But we can't go through history and ask ourselves if every injured player COULD have came back! What is quantifiable though, is that the majority of those teams won SBs with franchise QBs. Franchise QBs, that are more often than not coming from higher selections in the draft. In this particular draft, which is really the only one of relevance, the 2 best QB prospects will be selected in the draft prior the no. 6 selection. Now, say what you want about these prospects in particular and others could certainly turn out better, but its not logical to say the Jets are in a better position at the no. 6 selection than they would be at the no. 1 or no. 2. It's not even logical to say they have just as good a chance at getting a franchise QB than Tampa does because they don't! they have a lesser pool to select from, that will be missing the top 2 prospects. Only in sports would people make illogical arguments like the draft is a complete crapshoot so we should try to win as many meaningless games as possible. It's not a complete crapshoot at all!!! and even if it was - - wouldn't you value a bigger pool than a meaningless late season win?? Teams are realizing that fortunes rely so heavily in favor of the QB position and we will see more and more tanking in the future. Teams are smarting up. I would venture to say that I would bet any amount of money that we get a draft lottery system in place in the NFL in the future because teams are going to tank more and more.
Bart Starr- 17th rd pick Joe Namath- 1st rd pick Len Dawson- released by team that drafted him John Unitas- released by team that drafted him Roger Staubach- 10th rd Bob Griese- 1st rd Terry Bradshaw- 1st rd Ken Stabler-2nd rd Jim Plunkett- released by team that drafted him Joe Montana- 3rd rd Joe Theismann- released by team that drafted him Jim McMahon- 1st rd Phil Simms- 1st rd Doug Williams- released by team that drafted him Jeff Hostetler- 3rd rd Mark Rypien-6th rd Troy Aikman- 1st rd Steve Young- traded by team that drafted him Brett Favre- traded by team that drafted him John Elway- 1st rd Kurt Warner- undrafted Trent Dilfer- released by team that drafted him Tom Brady- 6th rd Brad Johnson- released by team that drafted him Ben Roethlisberger- 1st rd Peyton Manning- 1st rd Eli Manning- 1st rd Drew Brees- 2nd rd Aaron Rodgers- 1st rd Joe Flacco- 1st rd Russell Wilson- 3rd rd of the 31 QBs that won SBs only 12 were drafted in the 1st round by the SB winning team they were on(39%). 39% is not a majority, right?
Does anyone else remember people clamoring for a tanking to end the season in a top-heavy draft? Well John Abe goes nuts against the Raiders week 17..... and now the JETS select 4th. turns out D'Brick was a better player for this team than Vince Young or Reggie Bush would've been......
and QBs that won SBs in the 60s & 70s when teams had a 2 man scouting department with a pre-draft process that strictly involved a 15 min discussion with their college coach makes a whole lot of sense to use as a benchmark today.
the best QB of this generation was a SIXTH ROUND PICK. He just won his 4th SB which is tied for most ALL TIME, the last guy to win 4 was a THIRD ROUND PICK. the QB who won it last year was THIRD ROUND PICK. non elite QBs have won many SBs in recent years- Flacco(though he played like he was elite in that postseason), Eli twice, Johnson, Dilfer.
everyone wanted Bush, I think Leinart was the 2nd favorite on the board. by winnign we couldn't take Bush, we took a franchise LT and got a similar player to Bush in round 4.
This whole post is complete bullshit. It's just a justification for you to believe that a team will use subtle efforts to lose games in order to get a good draft pick. I thought you were intelligent before this thread but now, holy crap guy, how can I even look at you as functional?
I might be dumb, who knows, but I am not naive. You are being very naive. At least argue that you want to win as many games as possible as a fan because it's more fun to win. Don't be so naive to believe organizations are always trying to win though or that some teams don't have an eye on the offseason by mid october, like our Jets should've.
Yes. and if Abraham hadn't have gone off and the Jets lost that game possibly picking no.1., they still could've taken Ferguson!
