Exactly. Folks don't take into account the long term view and look at those fans not looking to win those games to be bad fans.

    Simply preposterous.

what is preposterous is the notion that you have to draft high in order to be successful. wanting to lose games is a losers mentality which many fans have b/c they don't have the investment in these games that those connected to the team do. Fans like the draft, fans want to draft high when their team is out of it b/c the draft is like a game to them. Most fans don't understand the draft.

Any fan that wants the Jets to lose to the Dolphins should be kicked out of the fan-base. They are a bunch of Fireman Eds rooting for the Dolphins.

Tampa did the smart thing. They will be rewarded with Jameis Winston. Best QB prospect since Luck. Probably have 10+ years of Winston completing passes to Mike Evans.

We get to see Geno Smith battle it out possibly with the reject who helped put them in that position in Josh McCown. Yay.

Sorry, beating the Dolphins in a meaningless game just doesn't rate much in the big picture. In the past, we had Badway and his comfy scouting dept. doing the scouting so yeah, a high DP wouldn't mean as much. Now that we have pros "picking the groceries", it would have made more sense to put them in the highest drafting position possible. The Dolphins will always be there for us to play. Winston, Mariota and Cooper won't be.

We beat the Dolphins, but we may have lost the war when it comes to restocking the thin talent on this roster.

I'm not waiting for a response, the idea that a professional football team should be expected to purposefully lose games for the chance to draft whomever is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

Why? To give fans on a message board hope? Who cares about YOU?? Just you, that's who. Tampa did what smart thing? They sucked on purpose? That is crap. If they purposefully failed then they will continue to fail. This isn't the nba.

Exactly. Fans that don't understand how football teams succeed cannot grasp this.

Beating the Dolphins wouldn't have given us the #1 pick anyway. I am fine with being @ #6 - what you do with that pick determines everything.

You can be happy we won the game without that happiness being indicative of some ignorance to the potential long term impact, so the losers can drop their specious arguments that those who were happy to win the game have no concept of future success.

But this idea that winning the game hurt the Jets long term has no basis in reality. It's speculative and reflects the fear and insecurity of those who think that the long term is set in stone before a single draft selection has been made and draft pick played a game.

Everyone understands that drafting a better player helps long term. But it is complete ignorance of the history of the draft to assert that the only slot where a franchise changing player can be drafted is in whatever slot it is before your pick.

Losing the last two games would have put us at 4? Certainly would have put us in the Cooper sweepstakes or better yet, made excellent bait for some WR or even QB hungry team willing to trade up. We could have parlayed that 4th pick into something really nice OR even used it on a Cooper or a Kevin White if either guy was still on the board.

Now at 6, they might still be there but its more of a crapshoot. Since Badway and his cronies aren't doing the drafting anymore, things might be different this year since we actually have personnel guys making personnel decisions for once. I have more faith in the Jets drafting this year than in years past.. Keeping fingers crossed.

Yet another person championing the exception not the rule. Hey let's tank the season for Marcus Mariota, who can't take a snap under center just like Geno.

Or even better, that "pro ready" guy from FSU that can't deal with social distress. And Luck isn't even a sure thing. The fuck?

there is plenty of talent on the roster, we still have a long way to go but the new GM isn't coming in to a bare cupboard.

how come you ignored my 2006 example? all of these guys are prospects, none are sure things. There was serious debate about Peyton Manning vs. Ryan Leaf in 1998, we see busts every year. it makes no sense to tank to get a better draft position. NE just won a SB, I think they had 3 guys leftover from their last title team and they have been drafting late 20s/early 30s each year.

If you have the right people in place you can find talent anywhere.

not to mention the Tennessee "win" that would've flipped us and them. Picking second at worse right now without that BS. Our choice of Mariota, a WR, or leverage in trading for a farm of players & picks.

Instead we got a truly thrilling 16-11? game that had us all on the edge of our seats and will be remembered for decades. Oh wait, it won't.

So then you admit there are situations where tanking actually works?

Yes and I also admit that stupid people who have shitty jobs play the lottery every week have a chance to never work again.

It's a sad chance of success and hardly ever works.

I highlighted that line because I agree with it and I also believe we have the right people in place finally. Fresh new eyes just might yield great results. None of us could have foreseen a complete overhaul of the franchise.
