Well look where we are now! Don't you remember the 2012 season? That season was Tannenbaum's gamble unraveling right in Woody Johnson's face.
I wouldn't trade up into the top 5 for any player in this draft. The Jets should be able to get a top player at 6.
Yes but this is stupid because the bucs have the biggest boner for Winston. Even if we offered 5 1st round picks, they'd decline and run to the podium to call the kid's name.
I don't think it's pure speculation. Read Licht and Lovie's transcript from the combine. IMO, Lovie went out of his way to defend Winston. The writers from a local bucs site have insider info and from what it seems, they're reliable. Their sources say that the bucs have been leaning Winston for awhile.
@@@@@@@@ I believe this might be a smokescreen. The Bucs new OC has ties to Oregon and the type of system that is run there.
I would if the price was favorable to the Jets. I wouldn't make a Ricky Williamsesque trade for either one. Likelihood is low.
The Colts would have turned down 5 1sts for Luck even if they were all in the same draft. It's possible that the Bucs could get so enamored of Winston or Mariota that they turn down all offers for the pick and just take their guy.
Aside from having a stacked roster and being only one player/position away, the only position I think trading up for makes sense is QB. That said, with all the holes the Jets have, I'd be extremely hesitant to do so for either Winston or Mariota. I think the only way I'd do it for certain is Washington contacted us and said that Philly had blown them away with a trade offer contingent on Mariota being there at Washington's pick. If that conversation could be proved/documented, then I'd seek to trade up one spot (Oakland) ahead of Washington.
I do not want the Philly first rounder. I want something higher. Big draft for our guys. We do not want a pedestrian player with our Number One. Now, if Foles was in the trade, maybe.
If it's a smokescreen then it is because they want to gamble and trade down a spot or two, otherwise they would have no reason to deceive the rest of the field because they own the first pick
If we're absolutly sold on either QB..................then YES. We got the cap to fill the holes with real, established talent for the 2-3 years we'd be out of picks and give the QB some veterans to work with. Otherwise we're playing 2015 with Geno and probably end up 5-11 or 6-10 and around the same position in the draft and hoping that Petty or Grayson comes good the following season.
See this is my thinking. If we trade up, we would likely have to give up the next two years first round picks. But, with all of the money we currently have, we wouldn't be singing old veterans as stop gaps. We are looking to sign younger veterans, or young talent with a lot of football still left. Our biggest needs are at QB, Corner, and Offensive Line. Let's say we trade up. We take Winston. QB problem solved. Sign Cromartie and a young guy in free agency and our CB position should be OK. Sign a quality offensive lineman and our OL will be better. We can then use our later round picks to build depth and possibly grab a late round miracle. Trading up would require us to give up a lot, but we need a QB and Winston has been the best thing to come out of college since Luck.
So the question is, who do need to out trade? Obviously this is all based on the assumption that Tampa doesn't view Winston or Mariota as their franchise QB. Arizona St. Louis Houston Philly I don't think Tampa would want to fall to 20 unless they're getting at least 3 first round picks. While there will still be a ton of talent at 20, they have moved themselves out of a position to get a perceived "blue chipper." That takes Philly out. I'm sure Kelly loves Mariota, but he isn't going to lose his next 3 first round picks plus more. Houston may have the same problem as Philly, but I'm not going to pretend I know how far down Tampa is willing to trade. They would have to pony up for that first pick as well. Probably a couple firsts and additional picks from other rounds and pick swaps. Arizona- same situation but worse. St. Louis is the team that I would be afraid. Tampa would still be able to get a blue chip offensive lineman, and St. Louis is in dire need of a QB to keep them afloat in that division. I doubt they want to squander their incredible defense because they cant get the QB position down. My concern right now isn't being jumped, but Tennessee wanting a QB. If Tampa and Tennessee both want the QB's than trading up isn't even an option. But I would be open to the idea if the right deal presented itself.
its hard to believe that we sucked as bad as we did last season and we have the 6th pick...this team really can't ever catch a break
If we trade up to get a qb, he better be the the unquestionable starter. I don't want my top 10 pick sitting on the bench, hence why i'm very skeptical about this scenario. ideal situation would be to sit where we are at and take the the BPA which may be a pass rushing OLB or WR at this point.
