If percy is playing for someone else next year it will be for less and it will mean we have signed a cobb/t.smith/ d.t./ dez. If they miss on those guys who may or may not be available anyway i don't see how harvin is released
I agree, he is going to be over priced at 10.5 plus a 4th but we will have enough time to see if we can get another high end wideout in FA before we have to make a decision. While I don't think DT or Dez have a shot at being available Cobb would be a good replacement. Even if we keep Harvin I feel like we can go White or Cooper in the draft if both QBs and Fowler are gone and we would just have a stud WR core. Add some offensive line and spiller in FA and all of a sudden I feel like any QB you plug in there can be successful (especially Fitz with Petty/Hundley holding a clip board)
Three of the players you mentioned are almost sure to remain with their team and the other guy is Torrey Smith who isn't all that good. If Harvin is playing for someone else we could very well be drafting a WR at 6.
This. The Jets have made it very difficult for their last two rookie QBs. In 2009, the Jets went into the season with Cotchery, Clowney and Stuckey as their top 3 WRs. They then traded for Braylon after 4 weeks. In 2012, there were several games with Salas, Gates and Nelson as the top 3 wrs. How can any QB succeed with receivers like that? The Jets should add as many playmakers as they can to help whoever is QB next year. CJ Spiller, Kevin White, Percy Harvin (restructure), Eric Decker, Jace Amaro, and Jeremy Kerley looks like a great start. This with an upgrade at OL and the Jets could be a good team.
IMO, if you add Spiller and White, why pay Harvin 10.5 million. He wouldn't be needed, you save his salary and don't give up the 4th rounder.
Problem is you don't know if white or cooper will be there at 6 and after the draft is too late to cut Harvin and keep the 4th rounder.
This team is going nowhere in 2015 within all reason. Cut Harvin, get guys who are the future of the team.
see, i would rather pay the extra to know we have Percy than go into the draft with a gaping hole at wr. You fill holes in f.a. and stock shelves in the draft
The biggest gaping whole they have going into the draft is QB. IMO not much sense keeping a $10 million wide receiver with two $5 dollar QB's. Let them both go and draft 2 pocket passer QB's that have won games after being behind in the score.
From another Jet site. "according to lacanfora, we aren't keeping harvin and we aren't getting revis"
Logical. Not that I think LaCanfora knows anything. Those two are win now guys. Doubt Mac is goin' that way when he's trying to restructure the team and the roster and find a damn QB...all for the future
La Canfora is wrong more times than I can count. Harvin can go to NE for all I care. They love snatching our players, plus them signing Harvin means they won't be able to retain both Revis and McCourtey.
Jason LaCanfora is like a blind man in a room full of dart boards, but he is on fire and being constantly shoved into a ditch and listening to the people shoving him saying that he is hitting the Bulls every time. He is basically a total moron
To me this is just spun by Harvin's agents, it puts pressure on the organization to keep Harvin. The fans would be frustrated if he actually ended up there, especially after Revis went there and won a ring. It may not work but that's really all I think this is.
From a Patriots useful point of view he stretches the field. Randy Moss was their greatest offensive FA pickup, he did great, but they didn't win a championship. At a bargain price OK, but they don't need a $10 million receiver. I'm not even sure they'll keep Amendola You hang onto Harvin.
What some of you seem to be missing is the fact that Harvin isn't going to get $10.5 million next season, from the Jets or from anyone else. And, he's not stepping on the field with no guaranteed money. So, he HAS to restructure. He belongs to the Jets. So, unless Maccagnan just decides he doesn't want him, he will be on the Jets next season at a lower price. If Maccagnan cuts him, so be it. Also, the Patriots have not expressed any interest. That's agent-speak.
