Slow down there sparky It's not my fault you have to take everything written on a message board literally and can't understand the concept. And there is no "proving" anything on an internet fan forum, it's all just opinion and speculation. I believe both these guys will be franchse QBs. It's stupid or lazy to think they ARE ALREADY franchise QBs. But in my opinion they will be so in my opinion Idzik fucked us out of 2 franchise QBs. Don't care if you agree with my opinion or not. _
If I annoy you so much then put me on ignore. It annoys me that Idzik fucked up the last 2 drafts. It annoys me that he could have fixed the most important position in football. It annoys me that my franchise hasn't had a sustained period of success and competitiveness in years. It's just like, my opinion, man. _
Maybe it just pisses me off where we are right now as a franchise that irks me. And when I read articles about what that idiot was doing it raises my ire about how royally he screwed up the QB position. _
It would have been the smart move but according to every whiny fan and member of the media QB was our biggest issue and the reason we stunk in 2012 so we had to try to get another QB especially a guy projected in rd 1 falling to us in rd 2.
Look he must have had some kind of a personality to get the job. And to be employed in the NFL for over 20 years with 4 different teams. He sure hasn't shown it here. His silence is kind of creepy. Anybody would want to at least defend themselves considering the kind of attacks on the guy. My observation of him on a personal level: He seemed to be extremely happy on the sidelines and after games after the team won. So I don't believe he was trying to tank games so he could get Rex fired. He also seemed to get along with Rex. Some of this you can't fake. If you hate a guy it comes out in the wash. But basically when he spoke he talked like an automaton.
Not disagreeing with you at all. I'm far from an Idzik hater. I just think it's not his style to come out and talk about what happened openly.
It's no secret that the Idzik/Ryan marriage failed epically. I like the steps the owner took to rectify the situation. Now time will tell if he got it right this time. Idzik definitely set the franchise back but also left it in good shape to fix quickly.
That is the key, Idzik overplayed his shit job and likely trying to hire his own coach and in doing so he sabotaged himself but left the new GM with some young talent and a but if cap space.
Idzik was not the problem. Rex single minded style of football was the problem. Geno is not even the problem. The lack of any commitment to offensive weapons, passing out of a spread formation and running the football out of shotgun were glaring mistakes, concerning the personnel. Finally, even when we had big leads or opportunities to take the game our '14 coaching staff found unique time outs and pass plays to throw away the game. "Geno Smith sucks." Why pass him 30x in a game then? Tom Brady couldn't pass in the "pockets" we provided, with all the deflated footballs he could squeeze his little hand into. Emmit Smith could not get a 75yd game with 15 carries and running solely from a shotgun formation.
It was Idzik trying to control everything. It's obvious he was the one who made the call down to the sideline during the "Snoopy Bowl" to put Sancho in the game. Just like the evil sensei in Karate Kid: "Sweep the leg."
I don't think he's been parading or acting in an obnoxious manner. Could it be that you perceive him to be acting that way because you don't like his opinions or possibly him? He has constantly admitted that we're all just guessing, and that he could be wrong. IMO there's nothing wrong with being confident in your opinions, while admitting that you could be wrong.
He went too far. He sabotaged his HC and tried to play his owner for a fool (either that or is simply an idiot who actually believed the team could win with Dmitri AWOL, Walls, Wilson, CBs off the street, etc.), and it cost him his job. Looking back though, I think we should be be glad it worked out this way. Bowles looks like a rising star, and Macc has a golden opportunity here to help turn the team around thanks to the cap space Idzik was hoarding up, as it turns out, not for himself, but for his successor.
Barry, I respectfully disagree that Sanchez didn't need replacing. It was clear by that point that he wasn't the answer at QB for the Jets. His confidence was shot and Jets fans were ready to revolt. Sanchez DID need replacing asap. I don't think there was anything horrible with taking Smith in the 2nd round. The QB position is so important, the Jets had such a need at QB, and Smith has a lot of talent. I'm not certain if there's any way they can project what a player can retain/learn, but if there is, then perhaps they did make a mistake in drafting Geno. If there isn't a clear cut way to know regarding a player's ability to retain information, then it was worth the risk. Where I think Idzik made the big mistake was in failing to take either Teddy or Carr the following season. After one season, it was already pretty clear that there were huge doubts as to whether Geno would develop into a consistent, quality starter, regardless of how he finished his rookie season. Teams always need backups, and Green Bay was built partially on drafting QBs, developing and trading them. IMO until it is certain and obvious that you have your new "future QB", you keep drafting them, especially if you get a chance to draft a better prospect. I remember discussions at the time following the draft when it was said that taking Geno with a 2nd round pick shouldn't preclude the Jets from taking another QB in 2014 if they had the chance. The only reason it did was either Idzik's ego or his lack of ability to judge talent. As for Glennon, I never liked him. He wasn't very good at NC State, and I never thought he would amount to anything in the NFL.
How could any qb develop behind the offensive line/protection the Jets offer? In '13 who were the passing 'weapons' on the Jets (holmes, kerley, wilson, hill)? How is any defense going to respect a running attack that comes primarily from shotgun? Geno is an easy scapegoat for Jets fans enamored with the "coaching" abilities of Rex Ryan. Fact of the matter is the kid has been running for his life for two seasons, Sanchez doing the same for two seasons before that. No valuable additions to the O-line since '09. No valuable additions to the receiving core since '14 (decker). We have a running attack and we don't even use it.
I don't disagree with you. In fact in other posts I have said that Sanchez should have continued to start and let him take the pounding while Geno sits in safety and works on his fundamentals. I'm in total agreement about the Jets ignoring the offense, specifically the WR position and the OL. Mangold and Brick getting older and no replacements in sight. Both OG positions going to crap. They were lucky and found a RT, but then he got greedy. While I have doubts about Geno, I still have defended him on this forum. I have also clearly stated that I blame Rex, his lack of knowledge about offense, yet his forcing a conservative style of play, his handling of the young QBs, his failures to develop young talent, etc. I think many, if not most, of the problems with the Jets currently are a direct result or Rex Ryan, his decisions, and his incompetence as a HC. I also have criticized MM for his play calling and handling of the offense. Rex may have had a LOT to do with that, however. I have also been very clear that I think the Jets should sign a quality FA OG like Franklin, Boling or Carpenter and Maclin if they can get him. I have been advocating getting Brick's replacement f0r 2016 in this year's draft and grooming him for a year.
I agree with you on not hesitating to keep drafting QBs (or working for a trade, looking to the CFL, or whatever means necessary, etc.) until you know you have that franchise QB or at least a close approximation. You can't just sit tight when you know you have garbage at QB, unless you are tanking the season. But it was never going to happen with Idzik. His pride would never have allowed that. The way Idzik was approaching it, if he had drafted Carr, say, in round 1, one year after drafting Geno, it would have been spun as an admission that Geno was a bust and by extension as an indictment of himself as a GM / talent evaluator. Which we all know now to be the truth about him regardless...
