Based on the two Idzik drafts they were heavy on defense. Maybe because it's where the draft fell both seasons. There were rumors the Jets really wanted Sammy Watkins or Beckham but other teams ahead of them got to them first. IMO Idzik was trying to build the Jets piece by piece and it didn't matter if he started first with either O or D He went for best available player. As for who was in charge on the offense many GMs have a strong say in whose the starting Qb, etc. but if anyone was calling the shots it was Rex and Marty. Here is one article from the Post that basically says it was Rex's call to start Geno vs. Miami http://nypost.com/2014/11/28/rex-turned-to-geno-smith-to-help-2015-knowing-he-may-be-fired/
as critical as i've been of Idzik, this is bullshit what CJ and Winslow are crying about. Idzik gave them an opportunity, not a guarantee. there are no guarantees for playing time in football. you have to earn it, as it should be. they didn't play a whole lot, as they weren't all that good. simple as that. it wasn't political, and it wasn't a case of the GM trying to tell the coaches who to play at TE or RB.
We shouldn't care too much about what CJ and Winslow have to say. Shitty vision followed by an even shittier plan. Thank God Idzik is gone.
Idzik was a nightmare who had no idea what he was doing and set the jets back years with his poor decesions an inept Drafting. Rex Ryan as much as I like him showed no ability to adjust his gameplan to fit the talent or lack there of that the team had. The two together and opposing philosophies was a recipe for disaster. Winslow and johnsons claims that idzik was the reason for there demise is laughable. Trust me I'm blame idzik for everything down to the concession prices. These are 2 guys, one out of the nfl and the other one on his way out. There looking to save face and salvage any career they may have left. They both weren't good and if idzik was making decesions, he would have been playing them all the time. Idzik demonstrated at every turn he made the wrong decesions. There playing time reflected there productivity. Instead of bashing idzik they should thank him, especially Johnson for the last millions they will ever get. They both sucked nnd johnsons got what 40k per carry. Lol fuck him
Idzik probably got rid of Winslow because of off the field problems. Plus after being cut no one signed him even though he is not an untalented player. As for John Idzik today. He left in an underwhelming way. He gave an 18 word statement to the press. And that's it! You have heard nothing about him since. No rumors of possible employment anywhere. Just one article quoting the Seattle GM saying he thought Idzik got a raw deal. The guy was definitely ill suited for New York. Btw his Asst. GM Rod Graves is still working for the Jets. He's one of the Jets two capologists. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/02/jets_mike_maccagnan_has_retained_john_idziks_pal_r.html
Funny that you should respond as such. I was gonna say that, of course, the list is in reverse order for Junc...but I didn't want to be seen as picking on you...you've got enough windmills. Here's a bit of truth for you Junc...take from it what you may. The fans are merely a reflection of the team.
Trying to work out where the blame really lies is a pure speculation game. It could have been Woody, Rex, Idzik or most likely a combination of all 3. What is pretty obvious though is that the whole organisation was completely dysfunctional. People working to different agendas, different timescales and different ideas. It was a recipe for disaster and what happened was probably inevitable. Place the blame wherever you prefer, but the only thing to do was clean house and move forward. I don't really care what ex-players say about the previous regime, they've got their own agendas, I only care about what happens going forward.
Since we all know that Woody loved him some Rex, there's no way that Idzik could have micro-managed Rex without Woody's express approval. I also seriously doubt that is something that Idzik would have come up with on his own since he knew that Rex was Woody's fair-haired boy.
I don't know if it was that dysfunctional. In terms of everyday operations. Sure mistakes were made but that happens in every organization. All I know is that when a team goes south and has a horrible season heads will roll. It happened two years prior after a disastrous 2012 season and Tannenbaum was fired. When things went very bad in Wash. after a good season one year prior Shanahan was fired. And his replacement after only one year of true dysfunction including fights with their "franchise QB" was nearly fired. You can make a list a mile long that includes every major sport. Lovey Smith, then his successor after only two years, etc etc etc. Look at the Browns. Now there's a franchise with dysfunction. And their GM is in trouble for really micromanaging. Including making cell phone calls to the sidelines during games. And some people think that Farmer was taking the fall for their owner who was really behind it all. If the Jets had won a few more games maybe nobody would have been fired. It's probably for the best but a couple of 4-12s and it will be sayonara for Bowles and Mac.
and what about the fans who aren't complete savages? do we really deserve almost 50 years without a super bowl appearance while the patriots and giants continue to win championships? a poor team history leads to unruly and fed up fans, thats life.
some of us don't deserve it but the majority do and unfortunately we are lumped in with those buffoons.
You've got it. Woody comes off as the innocent buffoon when in reality he insists on being involved and knows exactly whats going on in the organization. Do you think that Rex didn't complain like crazy to Woody about Idzik when the losing started.
At truer words never spoken. If the Jets had just won their 4th superbowl and 100th division, I doubt they would have stupid fans. People really aren't that different. Fans reflect their teams.
That's a concept (and a fact) that Junc just can't wrap his head around. He'd much rather piss in your cornflakes than his own.
I would like to hear Idzik's side of the story. Of course it's up to him, it's his career and reputation that's on the line. Maybe both him and Rex (directly-he always gets his minions like Mehta to put out his "woe is me everything is Idzik's fault" spin) are being quiet because it's in their contract. Rex and Idzik are still being paid by the Jets. Or maybe Idzik is just mentally recuperating from the blitzkrieg of criticism he's still getting from players and the media. It could be the guy is just mentally wiped out by all of this.
