When it comes to pass I'll find someone. And I'll head over to Florham Park to personally drop hot steamers on all their desks. _
This makes me wonder one thing and one thing only. Where and how much was the owner involvement in this cluster fuck with Idzik? It is hard to accept that Rex was so unbelievably hamstrung by such an incompetent GM that he had no recourse but to follow the party line as to who to play and for how long. This sheer madness can not make any coach successful on game day. Perhaps even that bone head move to play Sanchez on garbage time now smells even more. It appears as if Idzik wanted his picks to play come hell or high water in a favorable light. Now, if the GM had the full support of the owner then Rex was in a no win situation, but seems somewhat contrary to the prior belief that Woody was his strong supporter. Fast forward to the new regime where both the GM and the coach report to the owner. I hope to God the two work hand in glove and avoid elevating any decisions to the owner, because the absolute lack of positive results are quite clear when it gets up to that level.
Really can't get too worked up about comments from Winslow and Johnson. I need way more than that to take this seriously. Those two are clowns and morons. Give me someone with an ounce of credibity before we believe one guy with an IQ of a brick and the other who couldn't keep his clothes on. Both are done as NFL players. It was time to clean house . Ryan had to go after years of the same crap on and off the field.
two guys doing the sour grapes thing. Winslow is hilarious--he feels he has been shit on by everybody he ever performed for---in clouding the cops from the back of his car.
Ok--so you're saying they should have drafted either of them with the 18th pick instead of Pryor, or traded the Pryor pick to move down before 32 when TB was selected. That would have taken ridiculous foresight--I lack respect for Idzik as much as the next guy and think it is possible he will never work in the NFL again--but he can't be blamed for this. It's not even clear TB will be ok at this point although Carr looks like a possibility. Could be that Pryor outperforms them in his career.
mezz, You're smarter than this. If the story is true, then Woody had to have taken the control from Rex and given it to Idzik. It didn't just happen. There also would have to have been a good reason for his having done so, i.e., he no longer trusted Rex. There is more than enough reason for that to be the case. If the story is true, it doesn't say that Rex got a raw deal, but rather that he should have been fired last off season since Woody no longer trusted his judgment or handling of the team. Maybe Woody hoped that by letting Idzik control things, he still could keep Rex. We all know that he loved Rex. Maybe he thought that with Rex running the D and letting Idzik control everything else the Jets could turn things around. If so, that shows his flawed logic, and the flawed logic of Jets fans who wanted Rex to stay and think he deserved to stay. Rex is clueless as a HC. It's sad that you guys can't see that.
Why on earth would it make you "feel for Rex"? It showed how clueless and inept a HC he was if the owner had to have the GM running the team and making all the decisions. It also showed how clueless the owner was for thinking a situation like that would work. He should have fired Rex last year and allowed Idzik to hire his own HC. As it turns out, I'm glad he didn't, because Idzik and that HC would probably have another year or two at a minimum before they'd have been fired. I think we finally have a great HC prospect and GM prospect on board. I feel more hopeful about this team than I have in a long time. It looks like Woody has finally learned something.
How would it have required ridiculous foresight on their part to draft Teddy at #18? Many thought he'd go much higher than that. I can understand your point about trading down before TB, but then it wouldn't have been a matter of trading down before TB, just trading down to get more value out of the pick. Part of a GM's job is trying to figure out other teams' needs and if they're likely to take a player they want. Idzik should have known who needed a QB, and had at least some idea of where he'd need to be to get Bridgewater or Carr.
Ok, nothing I have ever said about either Teddy or Carr on this sight has been said in hindsight, it was said with foresight (guessing, mind you, just like all of us here) two years before the 2014 draft and before we drafted Geno. And I would have taken either one of them at 18--I would not have traded down. And you may very well be right about either Teddy or Carr but I think both of them are going to be long term starters for both franchises and special players. And if Teddy, Carr and Pryor all reach their potential (I'd submit that both Teddy and Carr had better rookie seasons) then the contributions of Teddy and Carr to their teams will DWARF the contributions of Pryor to the Jets. _
And I'm never a fan of trading down when you have a player you want--especially at the QB position--to get some extra value for fear that the very next team could take him or trade to someone who would take him. Anyone suggesting NOW that Idzik could have traded down a bit is engaging in massive hindsight. _
It could be true but look where it's coming from. Two malcontents. And was Idzik as a first time GM trying to pull a power play and micromanage a head coach who had some success and been there for four years. The story just doesn't add up. Maybe his players liked him but did that translate to success on the field. All things told a lot of animosity towards Idzik.
Idzik clearly had Rex on a leash to save his job 2013 and most of 2014. Football decisions were directly made over Rex's head that he had no control of. Winslow probably had the best chemistry with Geno of everyone early 2013, but when Kerley and Hill are your other options its not hard to wonder why..I thought it was more injuries than politics that decreased his workload. That said Kellen "Boston Market" Winslow should stay away from making Jets comments if he doesn't want to relive getting cut for being arrested jerking off in his car.
There's a lot of hate towards Idzik esp after his presser. His team went 8-8 the first season and there were few complaints. They put up a 4-12 and there is a ground swell of criticism and most of it exonerates the head coach. Idzik was a very weak communicator and where there's smoke sometimes there's fire. If he made so many enemies he deserves some but I don't think all of this shitstorm. The bottom line: if he was micromanaging why didn't Woody stop it. Maybe it's just not true.
On the role of Ryan here, and not to defend Woody but Ryan's defenders must acknowledge that taking control of the offense way from Rex was not such a crazy idea. Imo though giving it to Idzik was pretty crazy, as witness the results. In hindsight the notion that Woody would retain Ryan despite not trusting him to be a real HC when it came to the offense made no sense. I had to wonder in 13 and into the summer last year whether the idea instead was to let Marty run the O. Then I would hear Marty saying too nice things about Smith, knowing Marty had worked with Vick before, and that they had a pretty good thing going down in Philly. So I couldn't make sense of Martys apparent preference for Smith, and then then results came in, and it was pretty clear that Marty was not really a SMith supporter. As our recently deposed OC, and what with Smith Fans holding out hope that Gailey can and will push Smith into being a competent Qb, many here do not like Marty. But at least letting him run the O could not have been any worse than Idzik choosing what playesr to play on O. THis all explains alot.
Oh, the Jets... Fucked up owner. Fucked up GM. Fucked up coaches. Fucked up players. Fucked up team. Fucked fans. Woody, please stick to whatever you know best...'cause it ain't football.
