Not comparing them - point is that both were not high draft picks and have seen success. Draft position should not dictate what you make on your second contract.
Not saying it should. But how bout letting that contract run out first before complaining about it? My point is no one thought much about Harrison on draft day to want to give him a contract. He got a 7th round grade going into the draft too. Now maybe he's better than everyone expected. Or maybe he's benefiting in a huge way by playing next to two 1st rounders which command a lot of attention from an oline? I dont know for certain just asking questions that should be asked. And Im not comparing this to the JPP situation but he looked a hell of a lot better with Osi and Tuck next to him. When they bolted, not so much. In the pecking order of the 3 "Sons" , Harrison is a distant 3rd.
you did not actually read what i wrote. they are making their assessment, it is different than yours. it will only be negligent if the Jets allow teams to run all over them next year. we do not know that will happen. I am just trying to look at it front their side.
He's not hitting the market? That's just dumb to even assume. If we didn't want him we would mid level tender him and get a mid round pick.
This, if they wanted to get rid of him I think even a second round tender gets it done. Maybe a team picking at the back end of the second.
I already posted this in the Cro thread, but we will be putting a 1st round tender on Snacks. He isn't going anywhere people. Deep breaths
The worst thing about not signing him is he'd wind up in Buffalo. I'd hate to run against the defensive front.
Damon "Snacks" Harrison is my favorite player on the Jets right now. However, I've noticed that Kendrick Ellis played pretty well when he was in there. and even T.J. Barnes played well when he was in there. So, the Jets have depth at that position. I would be very unhappy if they lost Harrison, but the reality is, it wouldn't be a disaster.
Without knowing what he wants, it's hard to say what to do with him. I'd guess he wants more than what he's worth or we wouldn't be talking about it. Let's put a number on him. 5-6mil, 7-8mil? What's too much? What's fair?
It's all posturing at this point. I have to believe our new brain trust have a plan and I'll wait to see moves actually happen that I disagree with before I start to panic.
Ellis is a so-so nose tackle. If you're going to play a 3-4 you want a guy in the middle who clogs things up and Snacks does that as well as anybody in the game right now. NT - Ellis, LILB - Harris, RILB - Davis, doesn't look like a particularly strong core to me. 1st round tender on Snacks. Try to get him to sign a reasonable extension when nobody bites. The Bills do not have a 2015 1st rounder right now and I'm not sure Rex could bid on him without one.
he's not going anywhere this offseason. RFA, put the 1st round tender on him. If* (and I doubt it) someone wants to pay that high 1st round price, let them! in the short term he will be here. Whether or not he gets a long term contract and/or is here in 2-3 years is another question. We can afford to lose him if need be. He's not Richardson or Wilkerson, but his departure won't be a discussion until next year
If a team is willing to give up a first round pick for Harrison we should take it. I doubt it will happen and while it's not easy to find a good nose tackle it won't be the hardest thing in the world to find one to plug and play next to our other three who are great run stuffers. I'll take a high pick in exchange for a two down player.
It's a good thing the Jets aren't moving to a 4-3 with the coaching change but that would make the decision easier. Move Wilkerson and Richardson inside, draft a pass-rushing DE/OLB on the 6 and go find a strong side end from among Douzable, free agency and later in the draft. Can't pay Wilkerson $12-14M a year to play strong side end in a 4-3, that would never work on the cap.
*Ding Ding Ding* this guy gets it. Netting another first round pick would be golden for a 2 down player.
