Both would be great. But would also love to get Cobb (or one of the big 2 wr's if they are not franchised). Mariota is going to need someone besides Decker to throw to (and for all the hype he gets on here, Harvin sucks and needs to be cut)...
Not me. Both are going to be VERY expensive. If we sign those two, that's probably it. We won't have a FS on the roster. Iupati is 27, not 25. I'd rather sign Orlando Franklin or another cheaper OG who aren't that far behind Iupati, Sam Acho, and be able to sign a vet FA QB, a FS, a CB and some other players.
He is a great talent but he's just such a gimmicky player. He's not gonna give us the downfield threat that we need. If we can get a downfield threat opposite Decker with Kerley in the slot and Amaro at TE that is a very solid offense. We could sign a catch-passing back to perform the tasks that he does if he doesn't want to take a pay cut.
We might be in a position to draft an OLB, so I would hold off on Worilds. Iupati or Franklin would be nice additions though.
Unfortunately there is no wr in free agency besides maybe Maclin who is a downfalls threat......I don't see cobb Dez or DT making it to free agency
Iupati is going to be really expensive. Franklin might be a better option since he will command less money, and he is a more versatile player.
I'm coming to the realization that the guard position has the least impact. NYJ was 3rd in NFL rushing. Granted bad QB play should be factored in, - but 3rd! Do we need to spend 8 mil or get a less expensive Clint Boling. I say save the cash.
definitely doesn't suck, but he is a gadget player, has no real true position in my eyes, but is still very effective at whatever he does. One of those Leon Washington type guys edit: i think he'd be a beast in the slot though, like could be best slot in the league if utilized correctly.
Worilds and Iupati are obvious and worthy choices. The one thing that has been a hallmark of Jets personnel decisions over the years(both college and pro) has been the maddening refusal to make the obvious choice. A lot of the past regimes seemed to get bogged down in outsmarting everyone or making a big splash. MacCaggnan gives the impression that he's n0t that stupid. Iupati would be a big help. Worilds seems less likely to be available. Let's see what happens.
I can't wait for FA to begin already. The stage is set. The next month is crucial. It Macc spends the ~40+ M wisely, we are suddenly trending up with reason to believe for '15 and beyond. If he signs a bunch of FA busts, then all of Idzik's cheapness could be for naught and we could be right back to square 1, trying to get out from under bad contracts a la Sancho.
Think Again MS. Steelers GM Kevin Colbert suggested he plans to let free agent OLB Jason Worilds test the open market. "Jason had a good year for us," Colbert said. "I don't think you've seen the best of him, either with the Steelers or as a potential player for someone else?s team. He's definitely someone we'll consider keeping. We will see where the market goes." The Steelers haven't ruled out using the transition tag on Worilds for the second-consecutive season, but he's going to be difficult to re-sign. Pittsburgh is currently $1.72 million over the 2015 cap. http://www.playerline.com/#nfl/player/jason-worilds
No, it was because the Jets were simply wondering about adding Peyton. So they didn't want Mark to have his feelings hurt. So they signed him to a crazy extension that I can only hope Tanny does more of in the future.
It was more that Sanchez had a 17.5 mil cap hit in 2012 cause he hit stupid incentives that probably shouldnt have been earned. he got 2.5 mil added to his base salary for making the AFC championship game in 09. Then the next year he earned another 2.5 mil for making the AFC championship game. He had 2 years left still 8 guaranteed left so instead of moving the money the next yr they signed him to a 3 yr 40 mil extension, which the last 3 years were dummy years he was never going to see that. Which only costed the jets 20.5 mil in cash over 2 years instead of 25 mil in cash. Plus they saved 9 mil in cap in 2012 and 4 mil in 2013 and just took on a dead money charge in 2014 of 4.5 mil.
Bring that Jersey boy back home. He is exactly the type of player you bring in still young, still improving impact guy.
I would hold off on Worilds simply because he's gonna want too much money, and I don't think he's worth what he'll get. I sure wouldn't choose not to sign a FA OLB because I think I might be in a position to get one in the draft. That's a recipe for disaster or continuing the status quo, anyway. Besides, the Jets really need 2 OLBs, not just one. Give me Sam Acho or Brooks Reed and with the difference in what you would have had to pay Worilds, you can sign another one or two good FAs FAs, THEN draft a young OLB prospect.
