I said I don't think he's the answer. However due to his age and him entering his 3rd year. Im okay with him competing for the job. If he loses out then oh well we move on. If he wins the job then I hope he plays well and improves.
To be fair it is not inconceivable that Geno matches Dalton. Of course Dalton isn't that good. But he's a legit NFL starting Qb.
Hardly. There are many signs, both positive and negative, that suggest either he will be a quality NFL starter or not a QB at all. He's had awful games and he's had wonderful games. He's had a 3-INT half and a perfect rating game. He's made all the throws: the good ones that require touch and arm strength and the bad ones that show his immaturity and lack of comprehension. If you're suggesting that Geno will always make critical mistakes that would be the only reason I could agree that mediocrity is probable. If Geno were to cut down on his mistakes, his turnovers, he would be an awesome QB because he has above average physical tools.
I'm not against Geno. And think he should be on the team this coming season. But we need a good vet Qb to start like a Hoyer, etc. He will eventually get a chance to play. It's his 3rd season and you'd expect after the number of starts he's had improvement. We can't go into 2015 with him as the starter. If so you're asking for problems.
And once again you have completely missed the point about the comparison. I think you're wrong, but you've been wrong plenty before so that's okay. And when I say wrong--not wrong from an objective standpoint. What I hear coming out of you is simply a Geno apologist seeing what he's wants to see, not what he actually saw. Nobody other than Idzik and naive fans who didn't realize those last 4 games were a mirage saw that potential. If that potential was there he should have picked up right where he left and taken off. But instead he led us to a 1-7 start and shit the bed doing so and got benched. Yeah, that plan worked out. And now you want to repeat that mistake. Second year QBs do NOT get the leeway a high first rounder gets. Idzik should have remedied his mistake and drafted Teddy or carr. He didn't and now we're looking to draft a QB this year and sign a JAGoff free agent QB to compete with Geno. GREAT plan. _
I agree he looks silly when he denies he's a Smith Fan. In that regard how he thinks of himself is really irrelevant. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck...
I keep telling him that and he keeps denying it. He's either extremely naive or being intentionally obtuse. But at this point I think he's trolling. Shame on me. _
Yes, we still do not know what the real breakdown in relative responsibility was for all that. On one hand it no longer matters since they're both gone. But Ryan is now the HC for the Bills, so we will likely get some idea how he operates free of Idzik now. That may well tell us something about the past.
Eh, the arguments made about Geno Smith seem well laced with personal animosity toward him. Comparing Smith's performance with other QBs at this stage in their development shows he is well within the bell curve of acceptability. The question seems whether he can eliminate mistakes versus does he have the talent. I don't really get the notion that starting Smith, if he earns it, is somehow asking for problems any more than any other QB who has earned the starting position.
And your opinions are based on your status as a Geno detractor. It'd be one thing if you offered up solid, nuanced evidence in your critique of Smith. No, you offer up your opinions based solely on the negative stats you've cherry picked. I don't see an issue with being a Geno Smith fan. I'm a Jets fan: that hasn't stopped me from critiquing the team's performances, good and bad, over the years. You need to post way more evidence before you can call out someone's opinion as homeristic.
I've posted plenty of explanations for why I am a detractor. That case has been made a long time ago. We are so far past that point. The issue with being a Smith Fan is that he is bad for the team. I of course acknowledge that the poor secondary was a huge factor in the 4-12 record. But so was Smith. The point quite simply is that Smith has dragged the team down. We are past the point where arguing to keep him amounts to arguing that the Jets should be a worese team than they would be without Smith. So yes, there is a conflict between hoping the Jets do better and wanting Smith to continue as the starter.
Nah, I'm not buying it: It's ok for you to post ZERO evidence in support of your negative opinions because "the case has been made and we're so far past that point..." but Geno fans aren't allowed that luxury. And, let's be clear, I've read much of your evidence. And, really, it's not overwhelming by any means. It's as if you've distilled every newspaper article after every loss and accepted that negativit y as gospel. While I, and others, have submitted equally compelling arguments in support of Smith that include, you know, statistical evidence and comparisons. Being a fan of Smith doesn't mean one ignores all the mistakes and bad plays. I watched as many games as most and saw both the bad and the good. It seems to me that the difference between the Smith detractors and his fans is that his fans actually recognize his issues and see both the good and the bad. His detractors only the see the bad. Moreover, I would suggest that if you're so against Geno that you continue to post arguments that include facts, statistics, stuff that can be measured and that provides the basis for a reasoned discussion. Suggesting that someone is "bad" for liking Smith when you offer virtually nothing beyond "he should have been better" seems pointless and, quite frankly, boring.
If he throws 3 picks in 3 consecutive drives I'm disgusted. And I want him off the field. When he has a good game I give him credit. I guess I should be overly negative then right?
The fuck I have no anomosity against him. It's not his fault that he's not that good. This is not a developmental league it's the big show. And I don't believe in blowing off seasons to develop a Qb. When the Jets lose I'm depressed all week. I enjoy watching good games and seeing my team play well. To me Geno lost the starting job.
blowing a season or 2 to develop a QB is ok if that QB develops and will help you for the next decade plus. we blew 2 seasons and still aren't sure about Geno.
This is complete horseshit. I can recognize all of the good that Geno brings, but his bad far outweighs the good. Point to the "stats" and "evidence" of his good that outweighs the bad. He was brutal as a rookie and there is NOTHING to talk about there and in his second year he was 13 TDs versus 13 INTs (with multiple pick-6's) and he got benched for throwing up a 0.0 after 3 awful games. His perfect game in a meaningless last game when the Fins had their bags packed does not outweigh the 0.0 when we still had a chance. His last 4 mediocre games this year does not outweigh his awful 4 game stretch that took us out of the hunt in literally the first month of the season. _
I haven't "missed the point of the comparison". I've been wrong before, sure but that comment coming from you is funny. Anyway I think you want me to be a Geno apolgist. Again, if the front office believes in the qb then they develop the qb and let him play, develop and go through growing pains. They clearly thought he could build on his end of year run. Geno improved but not enough to warrant handing him the job. If he starts next year he has to earn the job. If you have a qb you believe in it doesn't matter where he was drafted. 1st round picks gets more leeway because more is invested in them from a time and money standpoint.
I am not saying intentionally losing but if we lose for a season or 2 as our QB grows up that's ok. Indy went 3-13 in Peyton's first year, Rodgers sat for 3 years then went 6-10 in his first season as a starter, Brees had a losing record through his first 3 seasons, etc...
