Competition? LOL We have arguably the worst starting QB from the past two seasons and the talk is competition? Upgrading from Geno/replacing him can't be this hard I refuse to believe it. Stop messing around and get clear upgrades over Geno in here. Doesn't have to be Brady, Manning, Rodgers we're at #32 if we make a jump to #25 (just a example) it's a improvement. If the guys we bring in have to go through a competition to show they're better than Geno how good are they really? I don't like Mallet.
I don't know why you're assuming that we are going to be able to lure any kind of decent free-agent quarterback. Unfortunately, he may be the best thing we can get. You can't assume that Fitz Patrick is going to get cut. You don't know what the asking price for Glenn is going to be. I have a feeling for certain Jets fans, ahem, this is going to be one of those offseasons where they bitch and bitch and bitch without ever taking the time to look at what was actually available.
Give us some names of guys who are out there that are the clear upgrade that you are requesting? This free agent class of qb's is trash.
I want them to make something happen. I don't wanna hear about "the best we can get". Trade for Bradford or Cousins or Cutler. If that fails draft a QB high. QB is the biggest hole on the team if Geno is starting for the Jets on opening day 2015 the new regime effed up their first offseason.
He would provide a cheaper stop-gap solution. The Jets need to draft a QB next year when the pickings are better. Whoever they draft should sit on the bench for his rookie year.
Sign Mallett, draft Mariota, and they can battle it out with Geno for the starting job. Although, i think Mariota should sit for at least a year, if he beats them out in TC than he deserves it.
I wouldn't even put mariotta in the competition. Just let him get reps the 3rd stringers get and unless he really shines he just gets red shirted.
I like this idea best but I don't want Mallett. All three guys will be learning the verbage and offense that Gailey runs which puts them on even ground except that one is a rookie. That's why I would be more comfortable with a veteran guy that has already played in Gailey's offense like Fitzpatrick so Mariota can learn. Fitz obviously is coming off an injury and still in the mix in Texas but if for some reason he is released that should be our guy if we draft Mariota.
i'd rather get a guy with more seasons in front of him than behind him. Not necessarily mallette but a young guy with potential. Rather go 4-12 looking for the answer than trot out a never was who might top us out at 9-7
No billboards and no 4-12. If we draft a Qb you don't start them until ready. There are good professionals like Hoyer who can do a good job.
That's exactly why I said if we draft Mariota, then we are not looking for someone to be the future but someone with knowledge of the system that can mentor the Rookie. If there was someone young that could be the future out there believe me I would be all in but there isn't.
hoyer is a below average qb. There aren't any qb's available that should raise optimism anymore than it is right now with the new regime. Maybe we draft a qb that makes us hopeful for the future. But to have expectations of a winning season based on qb play, to me seems a bit to optimistic
I think Hoyer can be a decent game manager. And I believe a game manager who doesn't turn over the ball and can move his team can lead a team to the playoffs. True most Super Bowl teams got there with a franchise Qb but there are many exceptions. So I do not accept losing seasons to develop a Qb who might never be a good player.
I don't think Hoyer is going anywhere. I just read an update on my phone today that said he is gonna be given reps for the starting job and has been in discussion with the team about it. Doesn't sound like a guy set to leave
There's an article I read about the Ray Farmer situation the NFL is investigating about Farmer texting to the Qb coach etc on the sidelines during games which is against league rules. It was supposedly the reason Kyle Shanahan resigned. Farmer was trying to instruct the coaching staff during games esp concerning the Qb position. Hoyer said in the article I read (I think on Espn.com) that if true he might not want to play there. But anyways he's not the only good available FA Qb. There's Shaun Hill, even Jason Campbell.
