Not really and I'm not saying he deserved another chance but one partial season is not a chance.

    How so?

Their defense was riddled with Bryan Cox and other former Jets that got them over the top.

what did Herm have to do w/ that? do you know Bill Parcells gave Cox new deal as he was walking out the door. That deal was ridiculous and just throwing a bone to a guy he loved b/c he was going to have to be released for cap purposes. That was on BP not the new regime, BP left the new regime w/ major cap issues.

Herm was hired to get the team back on track after disappointing '99 and '00 seasons. Wanting to recreate the Tampa Cover 2 wasn't a bad thing in a vacuum. The Jets were going to have to let both Aaron Glenn and Marcus Coleman go soon because of the huge contracts the Parcells regime had given them in the window. It was unlikely they'd get a CB as good as Glenn anytime soon. So going to a defense in which you had a deep centerfielder all the time and a linebacker dropping back into a mid-range zone on many downs made sense.

The problem was that the Jets defensive roster had been built to support a 3-4 not a 4-3 and all sorts of problems emerged in the transition.

The best thing about the Bowles hire is that he's a 3-4 coach. We're not going to lose value again switching back to a 4-3 as we probably would have done if we waited for Quinn and got to hire him.

Farrior had his ONLY good season for us under Herm and his staff. Remember, we had MAJOR cap issues they inherited and only made it through thanks to the expansion draft BUT we had to allow 3 starters to leave via the expansion draft- Aaron Glenn, Ryan Young and Marcus Coleman.

By the way, that regime made 3 postseasons in 5 years and won a division title so yeah they were buffoons.

While noting Bowles as a 3-4 guy, just for the sake of argument what if Coples went back to the DL and a FA OLB (e.g. Jabaal Sheard, Jason Worilds) were added? Because as it is, while they're better vs. the run, all these 3-4 LBs are subpar in coverage.

Point all the fingers you want but the Patriots won the Superbowl with guys that Herm inherited and cut loose.

Had he used more of the groceries he was given, Herm would have kept Bellicheck away from the big game.

everyone knows the details about that team, so no need to review. we will never agree on edwards and so be it. IMO there are people on this board that could have coached that team to those same 3 playoff appearances.

It is irrelevant whether Carroll was loved or not, you can't assume he would have been run out of town. Your statement was that all of these guys were run out of town by impatient fans.

    Carroll was not.

Rex is equally hated and loved, and the fans absolutely did not run him out of town. If you are going to make such a statement, it has to be near unanimous. Now, IDZIK was run out of town. But Rex could have signed a lifetime contract here and many fans would throw a party.

Blair Thomas had some moments? He was a #2 overall pick, he better have had some moments. But I barely remember any moments at all. He sucked, and it's not like he went on to be successful elsewhere. I don't recall him being run out of town, but if he was it wasn't unwarranted.

Coslet was as mediocre a head coach as there ever was. Big deal, he was 8-8 when he was fired, shoulda kept him! Another guy that did nothing when he left.

Edwards did a decent job, every other year, but he wasn't exactly run out of town either. He negotiated his release. There are always going to be fans who are for and against a coach, and Herm was no different. It was going to be hard for him to survive that Pittsburgh game in either event - I still want to beat him with a mace for playing so conservative at the end of regulation.

Ok, one guy, Mangini, that was pretty much run out of town. I'll agree there. But he's another guy that hasn't proven the fans wrong. He's done nothing since be left.

Pete was hated when they went on that long losing streak to end the season, no tears were shed by Jet fans when he was fired. we didn't have the internet back then but if we did I guarantee you the board would have been calling for his firing.

there is a need to review b/c people will read your post and may believe you. why couldn't Groh coach the team to a playoff app? I guess he wasn't posting on the board?

Why do some of our fans think themselves so smart others as being idiots? 90% of the post are based upon opinions and we all know, opinions are like azzholes. We all have one. I love all my Jet brothers doesn't matter if I agree or not on what they say.

    WE ARE JET STRONG...

The team, especially the defense quit on Pete Carroll and we lost down the stretch as a result.

There is no coming back from that next year.

NYG fans thought NYG quit in 2009/2010. sometimes teams have bad finishes.
