Good points. .... and oh btw, those are mostly facts you cited, not opinions, making your argument all the more convincing. Nice post.

What about QB? What about a CB? What about a FS, since we don't have a single legit FS on the roster? How much sense does it make to tie up $20 - $24 million in CBs when this team is going nowhere next year, and still have Geno as the starter, and no FS? The simple answer is none. I really wish you guys would get over your silly infatuation with Revis and wake up to the realities of the cap and the team's needs.

And I wish you would read further down with my responses and see that I said it didn't make sense nor was it smart. Just that it was possible.

If we were to sign Revis he would be the only corner we would sign. Can't have so much tied up to CBs.

Milliner can still be good, Marcus Williams was our best CB and we have yet to see McDougle.

A safety can be drafted as well as a corner later on.

its a position thats about as important as any other in the D. You need good players there, don't get me wrong, but I get the feeling the CB bubble is gonna burst pretty soon, teams are gonna realize that you don't need to get a top 5 money chasing corner to solve your conundrums at CB or put you over the top.

its like wanting a "#1 WR", you can win without one under many circumstances.

that said thats a broader argument over the value of a CB today, I think what matters more is the individual topic at hand.

i get the feeling we can get an effective CB (or two) for less money, for longer, with barely any drop off in quality from Revis and certainly less chances of contract issues in the near future.

our chances of improving with Revis vs all the non-Revis free agents isn't all that different, in fact our long term prospects at CB look way better with the latter, so why shoot for DR?

Since I'm on ignore, you probably won't see this, but it wasn't personal. IMO if we expect to be taken seriously on this or any fans board, we should be able to back up our opinions with sound logic. Your initial thoughts were right, then you flippantly dismissed them and showed no real in-depth thinking or logic in coming up with your new opinion. I challenge people on their opinions when they don't make sense, but I never mean it personally, unless the person just persists in being obtuse, unrealistic and ignorant. I'm passionate. I get carried away sometimes, and perhaps I did with you. If I offended you, I'm sorry.

The plain and simple truth is that this team can't afford Revis. Period. It has too many other holes and needs. Even if Harvin, CJ, Pace and Cumberland are cut, and the team has around $56 million with which to sign FAs, the team cannot afford Revis. We need to sign a QB, FS, CB and OG at a minimum, as well as our other FAs like Douzable, Ellis and others, extend Mo Wilk, and sign our draft picks. In addition, they'll want to keep some for camp cuts and in season emergencies, and maybe even a little for next season. For what it would cost to sign Revis, the Jets could sign Cro and Kareem Jackson and quite possibly even another FA.

If you said that later on, great. I'm glad that you realize it wouldn't be smart. Lots of things are possible, just not smart.

I respond as I read. I don't read the whole thread then respond.

I don't understand why we would tie a large sum of the cap to Revis. We need to find a FS, ILB, offensive line, WR, and most importantly QB. If the Jets were contending for a SB and had the QB issue figured out sure I would say let's get Revis but we are in the process of getting young talent. Revis will be 30 at the start of next season. The cap is nothing to fuck w/ and I am not about to let go of Wilkerson or Richardson because of Revis.

You have to be at least the tenth person to say this. No matter how many different ways it's put, some people just don't understand.

Those people also think our LB corps is sick, Pryor is a stud and we will be able to sign Revis, Cro, OL and some WRs all while locking up Mo. So, take it for what it's worth.

You're preaching to the choir. There are plenty that view that as possible though. I'm certainly not one of them.

It's all a matter of priorities. We don't have enough cap space to give big money contracts to everyone we want, obviously.

But it is a FACT, not an opinion, that CB is a really important position in Bowles' defense, arguably the most important single position, just like it was in Rex's D. That's why everyone killed Idzik for letting Cro get away and not replacing him. The fact that CB is so important for our D is the main reason so many people here support bringing Revis back, even if they don't like him personally and he will cost a lot. I do think Cro is a good plan B if we can't get Revis, and there are some on this board who would rather we get Cro anyway, and I think that's a perfectly reasonable position to take.

Leave Darella with the pats already. He would hurt us in signing other key players we need.

Just because you think it wouldn't be wise or a waste of $ doesn't mean we can't afford him. There's no QB or FS we're paying top dollar for. Most we spend is 3-5 million at each position, which won't stop us from going after a top FA.
We have about $58 million just with the Harvin cut. Should take us 25 million max to sign draft picks, extend Mo, resign a few players, and sign our own FAs.
If we're sitting on give or take 33 mill of cap room more you best believe we're going to be in the Revis sweepstakes, popular decision or not.
Woody isn't rolling over $25+ million again while the Bills took our former HC and went all in and the Pats just won the SB. He's going to want Bowles to have the best chance to compete out of the gate and make the playoffs his first year like his last few coaches.
I understand why everyone is against tying up so much money into one player..but as long as it's not an over guaranteed long term contract it's worth it for a player of Revis' caliber. We get to take #1 Receivers out of the game again, turn one our 2014 greatest weakness into one of our 2015 greatest strengths, Keep Revis away from our division rivals, and still have give or take $20 million in cap room moving forward.

I have heard from sources that Revis does not want to be considered a Journeyman football player going from team to team and
lacking an identity with being associated with 1 team. It is his desire, according those sources, that he wishes to play out his career with the one team he originally came into the NFL to, the Jets.....that's what I have heard.

no point paying that kind of money when we have no answer at QB - sort out the young cornerstones of the team with decent extensions while we have the money available and build for that glorious day when we finally get a QB through the draft that works out for us - surely our ship has to come in one day right? right?

I'm all for signing him to a long term deal and let him finish his career here with the jets.
