2nd time for Trans Asia in less than a year, they had one crash land just days after the Malaysia flight was shot down killing about 45 people. This one quite close to me in Taipei. This isn't the main airport in Taiwan but it is the city airport and quite honestly the fact that apparently nobody on the ground was killed is amazing considering where this airport is located. The video is unreal, many people in Taiwan have dashboard cams as insurance fraud is high here (nobody is ever at fault) so it's like out of a movie. Reports are 23 survivors, 16 dead and about a dozen missing. It's cold here and some of these people may have been trapped for about 9 or 10 hours so hypothermia may have killed some of the survivors. We're not talking bitter cold but high 40's low 50's. http://m.heraldsun.com.au/news/tran...-new-taipei-city/story-fniztvne-1227207890689
I hate planes. Seeing TWA on fire w/e year that was as a kid scared the shit out of me! Cant go on them.
Dam you saw that .... that would be pretty horrific. I was on a plane that had to make an emergency landing once and it kind of scared the crap out of me but I had no problem getting back on another one to get home. I've always hated that "the odds of being in a plane crash are whatever to 1, no they aren't. It either crashes or it doesn't. Fuck the odds of it happening to you
After watching this video, I would crap my pants if the plane went into turbulence. Be safe and try to keep your pants dry and clean.
It's a taxi cab... there is video on the news here that shows the guy stop, put on his hazards get out of the cab. You can tell the guy is in shock, he walks around in circles for a few minutes , he walks over to the spot on the bridge where the plane hit and then just starts walking back towards the cab and in circles again. This was the 2nd crash since July for Trans-Asia and one of the survivors and the only member of the crew to survive was a flight attendant who was supposed to be on the 1st flight that crashed in July but her friend traded with her last minute and she nearly died on this flight. Based on what I am reading I am guessing many of the passengers may have survived the initial crash but many sadly drowned in the river.
that's what I thought likely happened. Apparent the pilot turned off the wrong engine. The right engine stalled but he shut down the left engine.
Yeah I am reading that now... not good. I also read that he stated on arrival there was an issue with the engine and he was told just deal with it and we'll worry about when you get in back. Some lawmakers are calling for the entire airline to be grounded. Giving that this is their 2nd major crash since July it might not be a bad idea but they have a monopoly on those small outlying islands so my guess is nothing like that will happen.
That's the scary part about flying for me. One mistake is all it takes. Sure glad I have two flights next week. But if I can make it to the isles game next Saturday while I'm in town it is worth the risk.
I hate flying. I need at least a double vodka and a Xa_nax for take off. The whole concept of a billion pound piece of metal fashioned into a tube and getting more than 50 feet off the ground is crazy to me. I can't look out the window--I need to put the shade down and bury my head in the Sky Mall catalog. Weird thing is, once we're at altitude, I'm fine and I actually love watching my landing. Other weird thing, my brother was a marine fighter pilot and now flies for Fed Ex. _
Miles O'Brien on CNN said it right after the crash, the pilot could have become confused and shut off the engine that was functional
He's seen them all. We had a very long discussion about the Denzel movie "Flight". He also explained in great detail how John-John died. Basically pulled into the ocean whilst accelerating, pulling up on the stick and not even realizing he was spiraling to his death. His favorite saying is "Flying is not a hobby". _
The worst part of this is that based on what I've seen here sadly the plane landed upside down in the water so basically the people who were in the middle of the plane had no chance to get out as they went right into the water head first and could not get unbuckled. If not for that last second turn maybe the plane goes in belly first and we have an entire different result.
