It's kind of a shame that so much effort went into this thread only for it to be ruined by the way it was all presented. Nothing is more annoying than someone pretending their opinion is an unarguable fact.
People need to stop thinking Mariota is going to be available at 6. If he drops to 2 it would be a stunner. He aint falling past that. And we should all be thankful for that.
Floor is something you worry about in the earlier rounds too, not just the later rounds. You are looking for contributors with potential in the later rounds, finding that gem. I'm not going to jump in this Mariota discussion because I've talked about it many times and have expressed my opinion on him as a prospect. We were burnt twice in the 2nd round drafting players with "high ceilings" but low floors. I think the Jets would be much better off selecting an impact player that has high potential. One that can contribute day 1 as the team grows. Depends who is OTC
Good analysis. I don't think the non-signing of a good corner was as big a deal as some think. And there was a lot of bad luck and circumstances to explain our 4-12 record. Rex's defense only suffered one major injury all season: and that was a corner, Milliner. Other teams had a lot more injuries. Esp in the secondary. The team was just not well coached.
Sheldon Richardson was the best player in that draft and they got him at 11. Off of a trade. Plus Milliner, etc. as for 2014: the grade was a B.

Which is exactly why we are where we are. Missed draft pick after missed draft pick. A team is built through the draft, and we don't have shit for a team. We have a really good defensive line, ok receivers, and a very good running back. Geno Smith is a fuckin bust. Dee Milliner, as far as we all know, is a bust. Calvin Pace, even though I liked the pick, sucks so far. Winters fuckin blows. And I won't even bring up the enormous amount of missed picks this past draft. So because we got Sheldon Richardson and a full back, Idzik is a good drafter. That's why our teams blows a huge dick
You refuse to give Idzik credit for anything only all of the blame. First of all you can't grade a draft under 3 years. Right after the draft the Jets got decent grades in both 2013 and 2014. And don't forget: best player in the draft. And possibly the 2nd best player, too.
I'm giving him credit where credit is due. Sheldon Richardson and Jace Amaro. Those are the only two picks worth anything. When you are grading a draft, you have to take into account the players passed on and the players drafted. The players we passed on is absurd compared to the ones we drafted. We have holes for a number of reasons, but one of them is lack of talent through the draft. We have a huge hole at corner. Solution? Draft one. Milliner sucks as far as any of us know. We have a hole at safety? Draft one. Pryor sucked ass last year, to the point he was benched. We have a hole at offensive line? Draft one. Winters blows a huge dick. We have a hole at QB? Pass on all of them last year and stick with the Geno Smith pick. He fuckin sucks. I don't give a shit about three years from now. I give a shit about the now, not the future. Right now, he sucks. Idzik was a fuckin disaster. That's the truth right now.
If you are discarding half the draft by the coming FALL, that's not a bad sign? Try giving that three year window to these guys too. Good luck - you will need it.
You can't draft everybody and other teams can select good players, too. And every team misses on players just like ten teams did on Richardson. I guess that makes Andy Reid a moron for taking Fisher over Sheldon.
We are not talking about one time lol Of course teams miss on players, but we missed on almost every pick lol we had 12 picks last year. Who did we get? Jace Amaro. That's it.
