While we have plenty of cap space I say Mevis won't except a reasonable offer from us. Bet he would want 15mil plus. I say we pass on him and use that $$ on a high profile rec. JMHO
At least I can understand this logic. Rather than the ridiculous one where people are suggesting top CBs aren't worth money and that Revis isn't actually that good. But I bet Revis signs for $15M already. Regardless of if it's us or someone else.
then we have 2 other rooks, a vet, mcdougle, & adams. cro will move to the 1.. and the other guys will have to step up as any other teams depth players would be expected to do.. what if we spend a shit load on Revis and HE gets hurt after week 2.. we're back in 2014 mode
DR is better than any other potential FA corner, but the fact that he's so fickle with his contracts in terms of total worth and length means he's not worth it. Because you just know that any contract he signs will have an out so he can hit free agency again, so we'll have him for a year we're not even competitive in and lose him just as soon. who wants that shit? we can afford him, but theres NO long term security involved at CB with this guy. between getting Cro for probably no more than 4 mill a year and another younger CB on a 4-5 year deal and getting one CB for a huge amount whos probably gone in a year or two I don't see how the jets are better off with the latter choice.`
Reports saying Revis "loves NYC" and would definitely want a reunion if Jets pick up $20 million option
No, there's nothing wrong with maximizing value, but asking for the amounts of money that he's asked for and when under contract as well is being a greedy dick imo.
Jets can't pick up his option, only NE can. headline from link on Cole's twittwer page is: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...tm_campaign=web-mob-art-vid-16?is_shared=true
What's the most someone is willing to pay Revis? With the inflated contracts Davis and DRC got. Revis will command no less than 12/m
Cap may be going up a significant amount and we have a ton of cap room to begin with. Revis is an all time great corner, he deserves to be paid like it and I'd rather overpay a great player than a not great player.
This fucking guy slept with the enemy because Woody didn't want to pay him a ridiculous amount of money. He even said he took LESS money to play for the patriots. he slept with the enemy out of spite and consummated the marriage on Sunday as far as I'm concerned.
That's not how teams win super bowls. Overpaying any player is a bad decision -- always. This has been true since the start of the salary cap era and it will be always true. Just watch the Pats let Revis go to free agency; why? Because even though he contributed to their Super Bowl and is an incredible player, $20 million would be overpaying him. We should only get Revis if the salary we offer him is equivalent to how we value how.
every team needs to overpay someone, overpaying for multiple guys won't get you there but for a player here or there you kind of have to do that. he's not getting $20 mil a year from anyone.
I would much rather overpay a top Qb then a top CB. Cb is an important position, I admit, but without being a contending team, why would we overpay an aging Cb who won't be around after a year or two? Do you really think Revis is going to finally sign a long-term contract with any team? He's a mercenary. He will go to a team for year, then go to another team a year later. He'll keep doing that until his play drops off.
top QBs rarely hit the market and of course you'd rather overpay a real top QB but most teams overpay average ones like in Chicago, Dallas, SD, etc...
