Of course you would. That's because your eyes are closed in hero worship. You're embarassing yourself. You couldn't be more wrong. Baldwin had Revis beat on that play period, even with Revis holding. Then the ref got in the way. Baldwins clearly and cleanly beat Revis on that play. Baldwin isn't Seattle's best WR, but then if you knew anything about their team, you wouldn't claim that he was. You sound like you're about 13 years old. Maybe once you grow up and get over your hero worship, there's hope for you, but I doubt it.
1. You can't compare a whole half's worth of bad plays to one bad play on the goal line with 20 seconds left in the game. If Carroll makes the right call, the Seahawks are Super Bowl champions and we are talking about where Revis is gonna bolt to just to get his money. What's funny is, they DID win, and we are STILL talking about how Revis is gonna bolt for the most money. He's a selfish guy, you have to accept that at least. 2. Again, if Carroll isn't an idiot, the Pats lose that game and no one is talking about what Revis did guarding Baldwin. If Revis didn't take him out of the game and they threw to Baldwin, that would STILL be dumb. 3. You're just being a fanboy at this point. Revis was beat. The ref had nothing to do with Baldwin being open to begin with. He was just more open because of it. If you can watch that play and tell me that Baldwin couldn't make that exact same catch with that exact same throw and Revis NOT getting picked by the ref, this convo can end because as NC said, you're just worshipping your hero like a 13 year old girl and her Taylor Swift posters.
I'm hardly embarassed. Say what you want, I'll just say the facts. Revis is on Baldwin's hip until he runs into the ref. Here's the video: Yeah, you are right about one thing. Baldwin isn't Seattle's best receiver. Seattle's best receiver is not playing for the Jets. There are worse people to worship than the best CB of recent times and a sure fire hall of famer.
People still trying to downplay the importance of the CB position? In a year where the teams with the 2 best CBs faced off in the SB ? in a year where a Patriots team that struggled getting back over the hump for 10 years "overpaid" for 2 CBs in the offseason and won the whole enchilada b/c of it? That whole no elite CB has won the SB argument seems pretty silly doesnt it now?
it's not even just about the last play, or that game - NE doesn't get home field advantage and into that SB if not for their signing of Revis & Browner. That was huge for them. This year's playoffs and SB were a clinic in what having a great CB can do for a defense & team in the modern game.
No matter how many times you bring up the dumb play call doesn't change anything. What happened was they threw the ball. They didn't throw it to their best receiver because he was shut down by Revis and they ended up losing cause of it. We all agree with the fact that the Seahawks were dumb for throwing. Can we get past that any look at things that actually happened? Lastly, I showed the video in my last post, Revis was in Baldwin's hip. We've all seen what Revis can do as a CB and know if he is any where close he can make a play on the ball and break up the pass. So the idea that the ref had no impact on that play is silly.
I think you can win a Super Bowl with 2 very good CBs...A complete secondary can help you win a SB. See Saints, Colts, Packers, Giants, Steelers
I agree.. but the Jets don't have 2 very good CBs or even one. And the secondary is the biggest weakness. A guy like Darrelle Revis comes in and would make that secondary much better.
for a team that has NO SECONDARY, getting a guy like Darelle is exactly what Tanny/Rex would do. Eat up $16 million+ in cap space and hinder other areas we need to improve....Typical Jets rush. We should get TWO out of this list: Maxwell, Tramon, Cromartie, Flowers
that thought process doesn't make any sense to me sorry. Your biggest weakness is in the secondary and the best player possibly available in free agency plays in the secondary.. an unbelievable player in this league, but you don't want to sign him because you'd rather have 2 lesser players....
We are so shit in the secondary...Safety positions included. Paying up to $20 million for Revis makes no sense. Trust me this logic of getting Revis back changing our hopes is not going to magically fix our horrid secondary. I would like Revis back, but that mofo is more about the cash and his loyalties are completely somewhere else...I'd rather build a team.
See that's where I think you are mistaken. Adding a top talent at a position like that improves the secondary throughout. If you look at that chart I posted, you see a bunch of other JAGs in the secondary for NE. A lot of them like Ryan and Arrington have pretty good stats because with Revis there they are covering the 4th and 5th options rather than the 2nd and 3rd options. Sliding everyone down a slot improves the team tenfold.
Dude, this is the last response I'm going to make to you. Look at Revis' stats again. He gave up a completion 1 out of almost every 2 passes thrown his way. Those are the stats of a shutdown corner? That's pretty awful. Compare it to other CBs in the NFL. He gave up as many TDs as he had interceptions. As Mo said, it's telling that the Pats won the SB and Revis is still looking for the money. If he wasn't such a greedy bastard, he'd eschew FA, re-sign with the Pats and have a chance to win another SB.
C'mon. The vast majority of players in the league would take more money over a higher % at a Super Bowl. Especially after already winning a Super Bowl. If maximizing your value every year is being greedy, then Revis should be greedy. Yeah, he's forever a mercenary and his agents are the worst, but you can't fault him for wanting to take more money as a free agent. I only fault him for holding out when he's already under contract. That is being greedy and a dick; doing so when you're a free agent is certainly not.
Well- for starters we are just speculating the figures it will take to sign him. It's obvious it will take a lot though. But it takes a lot of money to sign/keep any great player. Not to mention this is an organization that isn't strapped for cash. They spent less than any team in the league last year if I am correct. If they wanted to they could afford to throw top dollars at Revis and STILL be fine. We have here the potential opportunity to sign a great player at the position of greatest need on this team (besides QB I guess. but until one walks through those doors, they aren't available.). It also happens to be a position that is schematically very important to the new HC this organization invested in and on a player that is a safe, on-the field signing. Meaning there isn't much of a boom/bust factor with him. Why not aim high considering these things? Why settle for lesser players in FA so we can have more money to sign more lesser players? - when money isn't really a big issue anyway at the moment
lol I know we as Jet fans are used to incomplete passes but the 75 of the league completes passes at a 60 rate or more. The average completion percentage in the league is 62.6%. The average QB rating in this league is 92.2. The average YPA is 7.3. Yes, those are the stats of an elite CB.
I certainly would make a offer, but no more holdouts. I'd give him player options instead. Revis is someone that will shut a guy, but he doesn't seem to get INTs as others
