When you say "we" I'm sure you mean some arm of a football franchise, but there isn't a single person aside from Woody Johnson who had any say at the time in terms of draft picks in 2007 that is still with this team. So unless you are saying "we" you mean either Woody or just a Jets logo, then we didn't draft him. Plus he never really cared about that WE factor, I loved him when he was playing but he was always playing for himself. Now that he has a ring, do you really expect him to want to come back to a Jets team that he wouldn't recognize? Get real guy.
Revis might care a ton about money, most players do, but he absolutely loved winning, he was probably the most emotional player (that I saw, anyways) after winning the SB. He was balling his eyes out. He loved it. http://www.csnne.com/new-england-patriots/revis-breaks-down-tears-after-super-bowl-win I never saw him like that before. I think he stays in NE, personally.
You also probably think he takes the same money he took this year. Don't get ahead of yourself. Uncle Sean likes his cut.
I think NE is willing to pay 12-14m/year for a future HoF corner on a SB caliber team. They'd be dumb not to. Revis also has the final say, and he's made a bond with the players around him. He likes NE. He likes winning. I just think that if he showed that much emotion after winning it all he may take a small discount for a chance to do it again. He cares about his image as much as his money, or at least I think so. He gets so much more exposure while he's winning and the chance to be a 2x SB winning corner sounds a whole lot better than a 1x SB winning corner. I think getting traded from a team that appeared to be trending upward at the time in the Jets to a bottom dweller in Tampa after his injury opened up his eyes a little. He tasted the AFCCG twice, then got traded to the worst team in the NFL, then wins a SB the next year. It's eye opening, or at least, you'd think it is. Who knows though, I don't know him or his friends/family. But I know that one of his best friends who he's known since he was 5, Ty Law, is in his ear telling him that there isn't a better chance to keep winning than in New England. And it's not like he'll be playing for peanuts. He'll still get paid a minimum of 12m/yr to play there. If you think being emotional when you reach your goals and have your dreams come true makes you a homo then I hope one day you also become a homo. Guess it's that NY culture though, a man showing emotion isn't allowed. Do you smile when your dogs get put to sleep? Your mindset is archaic. Grow up, honestly.
Oh you mean Ty Law who won a few titles and then needed to feed his family. Yeah great example. If Revis was so set on championships after Tampa, he wouldn't have had his agents reach out to the Jets an hour after he was released, he would have signed for less money with the Cheats immediately. But he wanted that 16mil and knew the Jets had a lot of cap money to spend. You may have had the pleasure of watching him play in a Patriots uniform for a year but you don't appear to know squat about the person you are talking about. If the Cheats let him hit FA there are at least 4 teams not named Jets that can hand him 16mil for 2015 that don't have an NFL investigation in their house. I can see a possible scenario with him staying in the unlikely event that the Cheats emerge unscathed from Deflategate, but only if Belicheat can scrounge up 16mil for the first cap year. Revis cares about being the highest paid corner in the league. And now he really has the leverage to do it again. Lol but yeah maybe the Patriot Way changed his life, don't make me laugh
I'm thinking he may want to join back up with Rex. Don't know if the Bill's have the cap to cover him.
Don't do it. Not worth the money we would have to pay him to come here. Sign Maxwell and Cro. Maxwell, Dee, and Cro on the outside with McDougle/Wilson covering the slot isn't horrible.
Take Wilson out of that equation and I'm right there with you although I'd only want Cro as a fallback
I don't like Wilson either, but he isn't that bad in the nickel. You are right about Crow, he should be behind Dee and Maxwell, but who knows how Dee is after his injury.
Not Revis' make up. He plays for $$ above all. He will seek the highest contract he can get and it won't be at 12m in NE. If they don't pick up his option he's gone to someone who will pay him 16m. First place or last place team doesn't matter.. Ty Law and Sean Gilbert are his biggest influences. Two guys who valued money in their careers above all as well. The guy is competitive but he's personally competitive. He wants to be the best cornerback in the league and paid like it. Nothing wrong with either philosophy but taking a hometown discount is not compatible with that.
It's time to move on. If I were him, I wouldn't come back. We are at the start of a 4 year stint of rebuild and loosing. I want some different guys. When we are coming off of a 4 and 12 season. The last thing we need is a 30+ old 16 million dollar a year CB
I get he's a good player...But wouldn't anyone else sigh seeing him come back with a Pats SB ring on his finger? I know I would. He's not a "Jet" anymore.
Feel the same way. He is forever unclean! Besides, why would we break the bank for someone his age. Yes, he's still a great CB but for how many more years? It's not like this team is 1-2 players away. We need to build around youth and it's probably going to take 2-3 years for this team to develop into anything. I guess a lot of it comes down to what happens at QB.
He's a mercenary. A great player who follows the money and owes no loyalty to any team. We have no chance to sign him unless we are willing to overpay, and spending $10-15 mill on a shutdown corner will not make us a contender next year. I'd prefer that we move on and let Revis go somewhere else.
