If Carr was better than Geno, why doesn't his QB rating and QBR show so?

Tony Romo's Quarterback rating was exactly 1 point HIGHER than Aaron Roger's.

Yet Rogers threw for 700 yards more, had 4 MORE TDs and 4 LESS INTs than Romo.

And Rogers was named the NFL MVP.

Romo was not named the NFL MVP.

But you look at those QB ratings to determine who is the better QB.

Sidenote: Nobody gives any credence to QBR other than ESPN.

If anyone DID give any credence to Total QBR, it would show that Carr was actually better than Geno.

Carr's QBR was higher than Geno's so by your calculation, wouldn't that make him better?

when did Derek Carr become great? 5.5 yard per pass, 600 pass attempts to get 3,000 yards. isn't impressive at all dude was protected a lot with dink and dunk and thats why his Qb rating is lower and his stats didn't translate into more wins. lmaoo at Next great Franchise QB

that being Geno hasn't proved nothing up to this point. I'm all for signing or drafting another qb for the competition. but i wouldn't close the door on him this far into his progression . let him compete for chance in camp with marriota, winson, hoyer whoever..

Romo had a higher TD%, better completion %, and a higher Y/A rate since he threw 85 less passes since he missed a game and a half

Romo also played hurt, he really is a Cowboy.

He had an incredible year and would have been MVP if the awards were not handed out based upon past success.

Geno is Sanchez 2.02.0 why not bring mark back? For that reason alone you get another qb. Gen is a freaking turnover machine. I hope he plays another game in green and white

Sanchez looked OK with the Eagles but has a problem with fumbles. His turnovers were not the pick sixes Geno is famous for but it is still a problem.

It is also probably best for Sanchez to continue his fresh start away from the New York media.

So you're also one of those believers that QB rating is the be all and end all?

Rogers had 4 MORE TDs and 4 LESS INTs than Romo and their YPA was nearly the same. Romo had a higher comp percentage. Romo's QB rating was exactly ONE point higher.

You really think Romo was better than Rogers?!? Because he missed a game and a half?

Quarterback rating is a metric but is not dispositive of who was better. The point was, Geno's QB rating was less than a point higher than Carr's but Carr had a better year. As a rookie on a worse team and didn't get benched for an historically bad performance.

Romo had a better year than Rogers.

Rogers has had the better career and won the MVP for his reputation even though Romo played better this year.

Hey that's your opinion which is fine. I thought Rogers had a better year. But there is that 1 point QB rating that caps it, right?

    Rogers totally deserved the MVP.

First of all guys, it's Rodgers, with a "d".

Secondly, I think Rodgers had a better year than Romo. Tony had the league's best rusher/rushing attack to lean on.

Lastly, Derek Carr is EXACTLY who I thought he was at draft time; a QB that throws about 70% of his passes within the 7 yards of the line of scrimmage. Good mechanics but needs to work on his down field throws.

It looks like Mac is not going to go with Geno. He's not his guy anyways. He'll either draft Mariota or sign a vet to be the starter. I hope not Mallett or Glennon because to me they're both on the same approx. level as Geno. Guys learning how to play the position who have struggled. And not done well enough to stick with their teams. I hope he brings in someone like Hoyer or even Shaun Hill. My first memory of Hill was watching him cut us up when he was starting Qb of the 49ers.

I am amazed this discussion thread is still going on, but then again, it is the off season.

The title for this thread should have been:

"Geno's horrible play not fair to the Jets"

derek carr was great in the red zone ... his problem was that he was terrible outside of the red zone and rarely led his team to that position

i checked the stats of the past decade plus and there are only a couple of QBs who had a ypa as low as carr's and went on to have productive seasons in the future ... the jury is still very much out on him

    Two things.

Prior history of other young QBs experience is not predictive of how any individual young QB will progress. Not unless their situations were EXACTLY the same.

The discussion point was, who had a better season--a ROOKIE on a worse team going 21 TDs - 12 Ints for 3300 yards or a SECOND year player who went 13 TDs - 13 INTs for 2500 yards. That less than one point on a QB rating is silly IMHO, one player was MUCH more productive and didn't get benched for putting up a 0.0.
