No it isn't. Why in the world would a team in a rebuilding year want to pay $12 million to a 30 year-old CB? That makes no sense from a football or financial perspective. That money could bring in 3-4 2nd tier FAs who are 25 or 26 and can be on the team in 2-3 years when they are ready to compete for the playoffs. It doesn't matter that he's an ex-Jet, perhaps the best CB in the NFL, or a HOF candidate. He's not going to help them long term. They could sign Kareem Jackson and probably Orlando Franklin for $12 million a year. Signing Revis would just be stupid. You're the one who doesn't understand the game, the state of the team, and the financial realities of the game now. Get a clue.

What's the point in paying Revis that much money? He's 30. He's still good, but not the player he was 4 years ago. With the $12-$16 million it would take to sign him, the Jets could sign at least two, if not three 25 year-old FAs who could be with the team in 2-3 years when they are ready to be competitive. In doing that, they could also upgrade/strengthen two or three areas of the team, thus making the team better overall, and meaning they have that many fewer players/positions that need to be upgraded. The Jets aren't going to the SB in 2015. There is absolutely no logical or rational reason to sign a 30 year-old CB for that amount of money as a stop gap player. Signing Cro for $4-$5 million is one thing. Signing Revis for 3 times that amount is insane.

That would be fine with me. I have a feeling that Rex's whole act is going to implode up there worse than it did down here. He doesn't think he did anything wrong when he was here.

The only reason that Seattle is in this game is because the Green Bay coach went fetal position at the end of the game and a tight end muffed an onside kick. Green Bay, with their CBs, who are good players, could have been here if McCarthy showed one ounce of faith in the NFL MVP this year. And if their front 7 even tried to tackle Marshawn Lynch on the tying touchdown. Flacco was having his way with New England and on his way to a go-ahead TD when he suddenly coughed ups ruptured duck with no pressure on him. In neither of these cases did high priced corners affect the outcome of the game. We do not need a Darelle Revis. Nobody really does, unless they just like saying one of their guys made All Pro or went to the Pro Bowl. You can win without him. We need players, not a player.

And you're being conservative with Revis accepting a $12M contract. My guess is it'd be closer to $15M or more.

For that money you can get another veteran still also playing at a high level with Cromartie, a young and versatile OG with Orlando Franklin and probably even C.J. Spiller, who was dynamite with Chan Gailey. Yeah, I'll take something like that over just Revis.

No. But great if true! It just seems like Belichick and Kraft have it way way over Woody. The only thing that could bring Revis back other than outrageous money is sentimentality (is it really true he wanted to return to the Jets this year) or maybe he'd like to play for Bowles a former Db and a very respected coach.

I agree. I just used that figure because the poster I was responding to (or someone else did). I wouldn't be surprised if he wants MORE than $15 million. There's no way signing Revis makes any sense.

Smith has been with us for it seems like an eternity. If we have not seen his best in 2 years or have him at least not learn to throw interceptions we will never see it. I have been "patient" for 46 years since the last Champion QB led us to the SB. Tell your Packer fan that opinions like his are a dime a dozen, condescending remarks from a team with multiple SB's and a great organization to make it happen. The Jets will move forward without Geno Smith. As a matter of fact, I "guarantee" it lol.

One thing to consider about Revis is his style of play should have allow him to play at a high level as he gets older. Because he depends on good technique not physical skills he should age well and with no injuries play at a high level into his late 30's. Unlike a player like Cromartie who depends upon amazing physical gifts to make up for poor technique.

If we had Revis this year we may have been a playoff team. We played 14 games with no cornerbacks that we had a chance to win. The addition of Revis may have been the difference in winnable games against NE (twice), GB, Chicago, Detroit, Denver, Buffalo, KC, Miami and Minnesota. That being said Rex is gone and I doubt Revis will want to come back here without Rex. Revis has said numerous times this year that money is not a consideration in where he signs in 2015 and he does not need to be the highest paid CB as he has already gotten his payday in the past. It might be that his year in Tampa has made him realize that there are a lot more important things than money. Unless he wants to have a legacy as the best player to ever play for the Jets I cannot see why he would want to come back here. Much better to go the Deion route and move back and forth between SB contenders.

I saw we should absolutely pursue him. Does that mean overpay for him? Not even the slightest bit. If he will come for a good deal then I'm all for it. If not, we do not need him during our rebuilding period.

Put down the bong. The Jets being a playoff team this year is ridiculous.
