His numbers would increase like that with any other QB just not to the height of what he achieved with Peyton. Year 3 has traditionally been the year teams reap the rewards of young developed WRs. Nevertheless, you are out of your mind if you are trying to conflate the numbers to say Peyton made DT. DT is top 5 with or without Peyton. That said, I would love him to come to NY. sincerely doubt it though.
Kerley makes just below the league average when we have 50 mil in cap space. So that is a garbage statement.
Signing DT would free up drafting a receiver high. I know the Jets spent a lot of time with Phillip Dorsett during the Senior Bowl. I see him as a third round pick, maybe he becomes a target for us there.
That's too much cap room tied up in the WR position. Decker at $6.5M, Thomas at $12M(this is what he'll end up getting, if not more) and Harvin at $10.5M is a bit too much. It's a good thought, however I'd be happy with Thomas, Decker and Kerley, then upgrading the secondary and OLB position early in the draft. We all know Denver isn't letting Thomas leave Colorado so it's kind of a moot point.
hey i said decker would never happen around this time last year when similar articles about him where coming out . so guess i won't be so closed minded to this. Elway is a interesting dude so you never know he might just let thomas hit the market . i doubt it tho.
Umm no it's not sir. Instead of just saying "thats a garbage statement", why not bring some actual insight into the conversation? There is no need to be paying Thomas, Harvin, and Decker all that money. Then add in Kerley. In the scenario of us signing Thomas, what's the need for Harvin? We'll have 2 guys who can play the outside, and a guy who we just paid to be our slot guy. Harvin is a luxury. We have a lot of other holes to fill with that cap space. In case you hadn't noticed, the team won 4 games last year and was pretty pathetic in doing so. We need 1 or 2 offensive lineman 2 Corners and a cover safety Another ILB and OLB A QB Plus we have to pay Wilkerson Paying Harvin $10+ million to be a slot guy, when we already have a pretty good slot guy on the team whose making substantially less would be a mistake.
even receivers with great QBs need to get open and need to catch the ball. This "product of Peyton " argument is overblown
Players who are friends can talk all they like, if I'm not mistaken. There will be no tampering charges.
We are not getting thomas anyways when he is tagged And harvin won't be here at 10.5 mil maybe at a lower price. So there is your insight. This should be obvious. Kerley will be here.
Totally agree. I think guys like Garcon and Decker have proven that they can produce with or without Peyton. Granted, it might not be at the same high level but it can be depending on the situation. A lot of people were crapping on Decker signing with the Jets, saying that he's just a "product of Peyton" but in reality, Peyton isn't throwing to guys who aren't open like you said. Decker came here and did a nice job with Geno Smith as his QB.
I don't know enough about their cap situation but is it possible that if they franchise him they would could not afford to pay him? I know they signed a few high priced guys last year like Talib and Ware and I'm sure Peyton isn't taking a pay cut. The guy likes to get paid...just look at all the awful commercials he is in.
Harvin is gone no matter what at almost 11mil this year and not a penny of it guaranteed. Now if he wants to accept a deal in the 2-3m range he can probably stay. You still need a QB that can throw to any of these guys to make them worth anything.
Nice. Plus Decker got his 2013 stats with the defensive attention elsewhere (DT for example). In NY he was the #1 WR (only WR?) and always got the other team's best DB. Plus unlike Denver, the jets 'tried' to be a strong running team throwing the ball less than 20-25 times a game, which takes touches away from all the receivers.
If we still had Sanchez under center, Decker would have gone for 100 catches, 1400 yards, and 14 TDs. EASILY. Here me out: If we kept Sanchez, Decker would have stayed in Denver. hahahahahahahha
If a team tags a player, that simply makes it cost prohibitive for another team to take him. Even if Denver tags DT, Jets could steal him by sending high draft pics to Denver (1st and maybe even a 2nd I'm not sure b/c it almost never happens) and offering DT more money (which we easily have). DT's worth the coin, but is he worth the high draft picks to defeat Denver's tag? Of course not but dumber, I mean stranger, trades have happened. See 'Seattle/Harvin, Skins/RG3, Butka/Williams. If Tanny was our GM this would be a slam dunk!
