Before all the crazy expectations begin, lets give this FO/CS a chance to get their feet on the ground first. I can almost see those 13-3/12-4 predictions now coming from the koolaid contingent but I'd like to think reality has finally set in. Before we go any further, REX RYAN IS GONE... Time to move on ok? Lets approach 2015 as a rebuilding year because for the first time in a very long time, it really is. We have a Rookie Leadership Team in place. From the GM on down to the assistants, everybody will be learning as they go. As a result, you can expect mistakes in game mgmt, personnel assignments, etc. It will happen and probably will come at the worst possible moment. Expect this and there shouldn't be much of a reason to go off on the CS. Woody blew it up and we're starting over. It is what it is.. Since we basically still have the same personnel in place, we still have the same talent level in place and as such, we as fans should hope for the best but don't expect miracles. Playoffs? Probably not. Surely anything can happen but lets deal in what's in front of us, not what we'd like it to be. We're not gonna be in the playoff conversation but we'd be doing great if we ARE in the most improved team conversation. Patience Jet Land. Patience is key now. If Woody had the balls to blow it up and start over, the least we can do as fans is give this new regime a chance. These things don't happen overnight especially with everybody in OJT mode. So, if you feel this urge to start a uber optimistic thread about how the Jets are going to the playoffs and such, you're only letting yourself in for bitter disappointment. Put this new situation into prospective and you'll see pretty quickly that a good season will simply allow the FO/CS to get settled in and gain experience. In short, Relax and enjoy the new New York Jets.. Pray they're not the same as the old New York Jets..
I cringe when I imagine what will happen if we actually do draft one of the top two QB's. Expectations will be through the roof and anything less than 40 TD passes will be considered a BUST!
The expectations all start and finish with the QB. If Geno is starting Week 1 we go into 2015 thinking that every game is an audition. If he takes a step forward maybe we have something..if he crashes then he's gone after the year and most likely a backup finishes another 4-12 type season. If a splash is made either through trade or the draft then fans might expect a little more. Bowles being here doesnt make me feel any less or more confident then I would've been with Rex. But the last 3 head coaches we've had all made the playoffs in their 1st year. Granted with much better teams coming into those years but still worth noting. Bottom line is if next season is a rebuild it needs to be a better product then what we had last year.
How can this be answered before a single offseason move is made? Playoffs is definitely not out of the realm of possibilities neither is 2-14.
No way you can make that now. We have a lot of money under the cap and listening to Woody today they plan on spending a lot of it.
I'll need to see some front office moves but I can truly answer this question. However I expect some growing pains and a potential bad season. Hopefully the fans learn to be patient. If draft picks aren't playing like future hall of famers in their rookie years, they need to give them a chance to develop. If a free agent don't pan out don't go crazy. This is a rebuild and we must treat it as such.
Hell it could be a lot better depending on who we pick up. I still believe even after Geno fucked up first half of the season. If we had some CB we win some of those early games and MAYBE made the playoffs this past season.
I agree with the drafted players. But if a FA doesn't pan out especially if he a vet then I think we should be able to go crazy. Hell people getting all over Geno and he only been in NFL 2 years.
I am going with the 9-7 kiss your sister season. Miss the playoffs on tiebreaker and another season trying to find a stopgap qb since they will be picking 18.
This is football and anything can happen in the age of FA. A team with $40mil in salary cap space only needs to spend wisely and find a few overachievers to pair with the 1 or 2 high priced acquisitions and this thing can turn around rather quickly. I'm not sitting here saying it will happen, that we are going from 4-12 to 12-4, but there is that possibility and because of that I think it's a pretty open ended question .
1-15, 2-14, 6-10, 8-8…etc., I don't care what the record is as long as it looks as though we are building something.
'Reasonable Expectations for 2015' Draft Mariota and he's the next Roger Staubach Just kiddin y'all The housecleaning has got me rejuvinated and looking forward to FA and the draft, and their roster decisions.
I don't know what to expect. The Dolphins are a bigger enigma than we are, the Bills are a QB away from being serious contenders and the Pats are the team to beat until proven otherwise. It's impossible to say before the offseason even starts, but it's not too hard to improve on 4-12
Cman, Yes, we have a new first-time GM, a new first-time HC, a new first-time DC, and some other position coaches who are first timers at their positions. We also have an experienced OC who has been a HC, and who adapts his system to the talents of his players and gets the best out of players. We have a STs coordinator who is a proven, successful, topflight STs coordinator. We have a HC with a high football IQ, who is creative, he holds players accountable, is disciplined, adapts his system to fit the talent on hand, is great at making adjustments, and who gets the best out of his players. The only concern I have regarding his is that his D sounds like it may be even more complex than Rex's. That will take some time for the players to learn their new responsibilities and be able to play instinctively without thinking too much. In addition, I don't think the Jets talent is as bad as their 4-12 record. I think if we had had this CS in place this past season, the team would have won at least 6 games, maybe 8. As far as mistakes, I don't think it's possible for them to make any more mistakes than Idzik, Rex and company made. They obviously sucked at evaluating talent, player development, at getting the team prepared for games, for being able to make in game adjustments, to hold players accountable or get the team to play smart, disciplined football. Good riddance to the lot of them. I almost forgot to mention our new GM and personnel/scouting leaders. They are all experienced, with great resumes, and it's hard to conceive of their being any worse than Bradway and company. Of course, they could be, but I'll believe it when I see it. IMO patience has nothing to do with it. They deserve time and I believe they will get it. Yes, it's a rebuilding year, but that doesn't necessarily mean we'll see another 4-12 record. Will I be upset and want heads to roll if they struggle and stumble? No, but I will be disappointed. Unless they totally screw the pooch in FA and the draft, I think they are perfectly capable of winning at least 7 games this year, and possibly as many as 9. Do I expect that? No, but I think it's within the realm of possibility. Regardless, if they play smart, disciplined football, show progress on offense, cut down the TOs, create more TOs on D, are in every game, and show hope for the future, that will be enough for me, whether then win 2 games, 4 or 8.
Just because Woody blew up this team and we are starting from scratch at GM and coach doesn't mean we won't necessarily be successful next season. We are certainly rebuilding, but we also have a strong core of players and $50 million which we virtually have to spend in order to get above the 89% rule. With a half-decent Qb we could make the playoffs next season. At the moment, however, I only expect an improvement from our 4-12 season given the easier schedule. I don't expect anything else, though. Just an improvement.
