Yeah, I just don't ever see him being that instinctive guy, reading a defense or coverages and figuring out where to go. I just don't. _
I'm with you...Been there done that shit twice now with a guy putting everybody, and all that hard work, behind the 8-ball. It's fuckin insanity.
You really believe that. That Teddy after about 10 starts is already a franchise Qb. And that we should have traded up or down for him. Which means he's going to be a better NFL player than Pryor and Amaro. Last year: he was. As for Geno you're starting to see rumors he might get cut. So maybe Mac and Bowles and Gailey watched the film and saw enough. And want their own Qb.
We're sure as hell not cutting Geno. Even mega bust Blane Gabbert fetched a 6th rounder and a conditional pick. We definitely should've taken our chances on Teddy this past draft but we're the Jets and would've drafted Manziel if we went QB.
I just read it about Geno maybe getting cut on an online sports rag, I forget the name and they probably made it up. But not out of the realm of possibility. I wouldn't have drafted Teddy or Manziel.
I don't know who you were replying to because you quoted no one and didn't mention any name. I'm well aware of where Teddy was drafted and when he started playing. The Jets didn't draft Teddy because Idzik is stupid. Teddy is a much better prospect than Geno. The Jets could have continued to let Geno start and Teddy sit, or could have let them compete for the starting job. If both developed they'd have great depth at the QB position for a year or two then could have traded the lesser of the two. If you're referring to rookie WRs drafted after the 3rd round, that' absurd. If WRs can contribute immediately, great. They're more like QBs and can take a year or two to develop. You don't draft a WR for his rookie season production. I don't know who you're referring to with your "frontrunners" comment or even what that's supposed to mean, but the players I mentioned are all players that I'm on record in the draft forum as saying I wanted the Jets to draft, so there's no cherry picking here. Aside from Davante Adams and Beckham, I don't know how any of those players did their rookie seasons, either. The only reason I know how those two did because Beckham made the highlight reels several times, and I saw the Packers play numerous times. Yes, he tried to sign Davis, but evidently didn't have any clear backup plan for a second tier FA. He went from Davis to Rodgers-Cromartie, and maybe Verner in between, but didn't seem to have any interest in Shields, or any of the second tier CBs aside from Patterson. I totally disagree that Idzik's plan was solid, unless by "plan" you mean a generic building through the draft. Besides, he sucked at talent evaluation so whatever his plan was it really doesn't matter.
I've read many here say the draft is a 50/50 proposition at best, even for the better GMs. If that's truly the case then keeping all 12 picks and hoping 5-6 are solid starters in a year or two may be better than trading a bunch of pics away to move back into the 2nd round to get one player, who himself is 50-50 at best. Anyway it seems like we beat up Tanny for years for trading up and ending up with fewer players. So now Idzik picks the 12 best players he can and now he's a bum for not trading away picks to move up. You can of see why no one in the Jets org bothers reading fan forums.
Both Tanny and Idzik sucked, it's stupid to support one over the other. One guy didn't respect the value of draft picks and overpaid players, got a small handful of good players in the draft over half a decade and crippled the team with high contracts. The other overvalued a cashload of picks, couldn't draft to save his life and would not spend if his life depended on it. The first guy was instant reward long term failure and got a limited instant reward. The other guy was no instant reward and questionable long term payout and never got the chance to see if his strategy could work. Either way they were both bad fits for this team and never proved out.
He was on the board when the Jets were drafting, at this point in each of their careers (granted it's only one year) I'd take Bridgewater over Pryor. Taking Bridgewater with the Jets pick would have in no way hampered drafting Amaro.
I'm not sold on Teddy but it's hard not to make a case for him over Pryor. Still would have wanted that guy the Saints got or even the guy the Eagles got.
I thought it before he was even drafted, why would I change my opinion now? But the "now" part is misleading. He is not already a franchise QB, he is not already Rogers or Brees or any of those guys. He's a franchise QB in the making. That's what I meant. The guy we should have built around. _
First off - its not a 50/50 proposition by any means. anyone who said that is dumb. Second off -Idzik didn't take 12 draft picks that were evenly distributed throughout the draft he took 3 picks in the first 3 rounds (2 of which were sucky picks) and then 9 picks in the shitty lower rounds. he was rightfully criticized for that stupid strategy. It was one of the best NFL drafts in years. and he botched it horribly thats why he was canned. It's like Idzik was a kid at the amusement park and instead of using his $10 dollars to get bicycles like the other kids he wasted $3 dollars on snow cone in 90 degree weather (Pryor), wasted $3 on a rip off, risky chance game (mcDougle) spent $3 on a t-shirt (Amaro) and threw 100 pennies into a wishing well praying for a bicycle when all the other kids were riding by in one (rounds 4-7) Now everyone else has bicycles and all we have left is just a t-shirt (amaro).
I'll see you in two years on that. I don't consider a good starter a franchise Qb. Just a good Qb. As for Geno he has another year. But I don't trust him to be the appointed starter. His last five games to me showed he might have the ability to be a game manager and not a turnover machine. If he regresses you have to get rid of him.
After seeing both of them in 2014 you might be right. Bridgewater was better than Pryor. But again you have to give it three years. Pryor could end up a Pro Bowl safety and Teddy could end up another Matt Leinart. At this juncture you just don't know.
There are different levels of franchise QB's. Elite Aaron Rodger Tom Brady Peyton Manning Drew Brees 2nd tier/1 level below elite Ben Roethlisberger Andrew Luck Phillip Rivers Tony Romo Matt Ryan Matthew Stafford Russell Wilson Middle of the pack Ryan Tannehill Joe Flacco Alex Smith Eli Manning Cam Newton Jay Cutler Low level franchise QB Andy Dalton Nick Foles Robert Griffin III Colin Kaepernick
I'll take all of the above for the Jets. But anyways IMO the franchise guys are in the first two categories. In other words eleven franchise Qbs and that's stretching it. The only ones possibly in middle of the pack are Eli and Cam. But Cam hasn't really done it so far in his career. I think the guys you say are lower level are on a par with the Middle level Qbs.
Well, THAT'S something to aspire to. Every year the Pats and Colts and Steelers and Saints and Packers and Denver are consistent winners and competing for championships. And you know what their fans AREN'T saying? "Thank God we have a game manager and not a turnover machine". _
I think for a second year Qb improvement is what you're looking for. And being able to manage a game and not turn over the ball isn't bad. I don't think you have to have a Pro Bowl Qb to win in the NFL. But you can't have a turnover machine either like Mark or Geno. Geno is still legitimately on a learning curve. And if his last five games showed improvement to me this is a plus. I know you say it's a mirage and you could be right. As for Teddy, you never know he could regress in 2015. He's only had ten starts. But he looks pretty good so far.
