In Buffalo he's a top 10 draft pick that was drafted to be a franchise cornerstone & only shows flashes of greatness here and there. frustrating Bills fans.

In NY he'd be a mid-level FA pickup, designed to split time with the current starting RB, but still shows flashes of greatness from time to time. You think that would frustrate Jet fans? I don't..

Percy Harvin is almost the ideal player for Gailey's spread. C.J. Spiller is also almost perfect. The Jets will likely have one or the other going into next season. They might have both.

The thing is, Gailey is not a Spread-only guy. He certainly didn't run spread when he was at Dallas. Nor did he at Pittsburgh - and that Steelers had Kordell Stewart, of all QBs. Fiedler was certainly not running spread when Gailey was the OC for the Phags.

We will have to see what kind of offense Gailey brings to the table - making assumption about the spread offense in next year, simply [because he ran one at Buffalo] is a very risky proposition, I wanted to point out.

You guys are getting your hopes up a little too early over Gailey's special spread system. He's an old OC that's been out the game for 2 years. Plus he doesn't many weapons to work with. Please lets not get ahead of ourselves (as usual) Jets fans.

Bowles said it yesterday. He's hiring Gailey because he wants to fall back on Gailey's wealth of experience as a coach, as Bowles gains his own experience as a HC. He's prolly much more confident in the D side and wants to lean on Gailey a little.

They're both new, Mac and he, at their respective position. Good move getting some experience and knowledge in the house.

Unlike Rex, Bowles already knows he needs to be in command of ALL the units and workings of the team.

As far as I'm concerned he's an upgrade over MM, and everybody else since Charlie Weis. The better the team the better Coordinator

I found some interesting quotes from old articles regarding Chan and think it would be cool to share:

Well, let's see what he can do with this fine group of professional athletes John Idzik and Rex Ryan put together over the years.

Let's not forget he was the HC back in Dallas. Gailey is not a good HC.

Well, truthfully he wasn't a good fit for Dallas.

A quote from Irvin is not often relevant, add the fact that he was at the end of his career when Gailey was there, unhappy about his limited action, and the comment becomes as worthwhile as a quote from say Metha.

Also don't forget that this was during Jerry Jones' "I can be a head coach" era where he was constantly on the sideline next to Chan telling him what to do and also Irvin ended his career in the second year. They still made the playoffs both years with Gailey being lorded over by the world's oldest child. There is nothing to be learned by that two years but Jerry Jones needs to stay the hell away from the ins and outs of football.

The reason he'll be leaving Buffalo is because he won't want to be paid like a RB who splits time.

I'm guessing that Spiller either stays with Buff or ends up in one of the West divisions ( the Raiders lol)

He can want in one hand and shit in the other..

Every running back gets paid like a RB who splits time these days. He will get a contract similar to Reggie Bush's 4/16mil signed in 2013 because he's a very similar player. That's very affordable for teams especially since they will be able to front or back load it depending on their needs. The Jets would probably front load it if they offered him.

Well, consider the source. He later said his comment was really geared toward his recollection of Gailey as a head coach. He said Gailey knew his Xs and Os. Probably just did not call Michael's number enough to suit him. Dallas made the playoffs both years, with Aikman and Irvin on their last legs and hating him.

Irvin also said this about Chan the HC:
“I don’t know that that was Chan Gailey’s strength — the area of motivation. He knows Xs and Os. The area of motivation is not his strength. Hopefully Todd Bowles is good at that.”

As others have said he is a better OC than HC. I guess sorta like Norv Turner.
