Statement from Patriot's Assistant Equipment Co-Manager (last person to handle Tom Brady's balls before the AFC Championship Game): Good afternoon everyone. I'm Tom Bradys ball handler. I can state unequivocally that there was no mishandling of Tom Brady's balls. I handle his balls specifically within the rules laid out by the NFL. I rub Tom's balls, taking extra care not to handling them too roughly. As Tommy has stated, he like his balls soft. I gently apply 1 ounce of baby oil and rub it in gently. Slowly at first, and then more vigorously so as to warm them up. Using a special towel, I then rub harder and harder, the heat building and building until I can feel the warmth of his balls when put gently to my face. At this time I check the pressure as to be certain that Tom's balls are perfect.I wouldn't want Tom's balls to explode prematurely. (smiles coyly) Once his balls are rubbed, heated to the point where I sure Tom would approve, I suck enough air from them to meet NFL specs. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding of what I do with Tom's balls.

Most Jet fans believe the NFL will do little if anything to the pats. I for one am not holding my breath. If the NFL had balls they would recognize by the defiance stance alone that they did something. It's sort of like a lil kid found with stolen property on his person and screaming holy murder he didn't do it. How did it get there? I don't know someone conspired against me and put it there. I just hope the total truth comes out. The NFL gave too much time for the pats to line up the responses and dot the I's. JMHO

I can't post links yet -- otherwise I would -- but the NY Daily News conducted an experiment that shows that the balls could've been deflated in roughly 40 seconds (there's a video as well). Additionally, Pro Football Talk/Mike Florio is reporting that the NFL's own standard of proof is a "preponderance of the evidence" in allegations of conduct that undermines the integrity of the game. In other words, the burden is on the league to prove that the Patriots more-likely-than-not (i.e., 51% to 49%) caused the deflation of the footballs in question.
For fining them or whatever the stock punishment is sure. To actually have a major suspension/draft pick involved? They're gonna have to do a little better than show a 'likely' breaking of the rules. Especially after Goodell's Rice punishment got thrown out and Bobby threw down the gauntlet yesterday (though I'm sure it was partly motivated to distance himself from the league after all the chatter about him being buddy-buddy with Goodell).
Perhaps. But as to the Rice situation, I think that more had to do with the fact that he was re-punished for the same offense based on what seemed to be no new evidence.
