Yeah let's totally disagree together. Spiller doesn't even have close to the same skills as Harvin. He's a career RB who can catch out of the backfield. Harvin has a better first step than most offensive players in the league, his hips move so fast they usually can't read them and he's got the hands of an elite WR who can run like a back. If you want to bust him for injury, yeah, that's his downfall, but there hasn't been an NFL team that used him as effectively as Urban Meyer did in that spread, which uncoincidentally is what Belicheat has modeled his offense after. He's definitely got a position, he just needs to be allowed to play it
Is there a date that this all needs to be done by? My feelings on Harvin on a restructured deal hinge mainly on if we can get Amari Cooper at 6. If we can then we have what I believe is an upgrade at WR with the chance to finally have a true number 1 guy in a year or two. And he'd be cheaper. But if he's already picked it might make sense to keep Percy around. I dont like the idea of having big $$ out there on a guy who hasnt played a full season is like 4 years.
I'd cut him, retain the 4th rounder, try to bring him back on a cheaper deal. If it doesnt work out use the money elsewhere. We can use a Percy Harvin just not at 10.5m plus a 4th rounder.
This thread should be over after 0 posts He is not even worth close to half the 10 mil And don't give me this crap we are 50 mil under shit...... He isn't even a top 30 wide reciever but gets paid like a top 5 Forget that
Plenty of players have been misused early and then break out and become real factors. You think every team in the league was breaking their backs for Wes Welker or Woodhead or that Edelman dick? You use the players to their best ability and Percy has more ability than any of those guys. Gailey used that spread in Buff and got some real production out of some weak ass players, you put a guy like Percy in that equation with the right scheme and the dude can be a killer. I'm not saying you pay him out the ass but structure his salary right and throw incentives in there and you could have an x factor.
He has two strikes against him. Money of course and the 4th round pick. After squandering a few picks last year lets preserve what we have and give our GM a chance. Percy is good but not 10M plus a 4th good. We can get a WR for 7m and call it a win win. The 4th could give us a young talented RB to take on his role
If Percy doesn't want to talk about getting a deal that is more team friendly, then he can leave. I think the talent at WR during FA could be very good and we could replace Harvin with an actual wide receiver. Rumors are Mike Wallace might be cut, I would absolutely take him here and have him be our deep threat. He should be cheaper then his current contract. You got Cobb, Maclin, the list goes on. Harvin should not be here under that 10M price tag.
I'd pay him 2m this year and give up a 3rd if that's what it took. Spread the money out along 6 years but give him a fourth year option to jump and turn one of the salary years into incentives. The guaranteed money this year would be 10m up front but only 2 count. Better than whatever 3rd round pick we'd get, bet.
What are you talking about? It's either a 6th rnd pick or a 4th rnd pick if he is on the team on March 10th. With all the free agents he won't get more than 6 mil.
How stupid are you? I said "if that's what it took". Then I explained how I would real world structure a contract. I don't think you are qualified to understand the English language
Restructure? Lol You don't even know the difference between a paycut and a restructure? That's why you are being a little ignorant There is a difference between a paycut and a restructure if you don't know that, lol.
And now we are venturing into the Twilight Zone of stupid. Where in this entire thread has any single person mentioned a "paycut"? I'm fully aware of what a restructure is but keep going, I want to see just how far your stupid extends
You didn't answer the question what is the difference between a restructure and a paycut. There is an difference, but you don't know that.... Why cause you are.....
Why yes, I will for some reason answer your stupid questions. The difference is that a paycut involves a player agreeing not to receive money that his current contract allows him and a restructure is the same contract that moves the numbers around, commonly moves big numbers to the later years and commonly gives the player more guaranteed money up front as a result. This isn't even an argument we were having but I'm glad that I could teach you something, since you don't really come off as a person that could live life without someone else giving you some kind of leg up. Don't spend those WIC bucks all in one place, guy
Ummmm.... how does giving up a 3rd even factor in? Edit: also, google WIC. It's not what you think it is.
Please don't tell me you are as daft as the other guy, the mention of a 3rd rounder was simply stating that I would give up a higher pick than what the Jets would actually be required to pay in reality to keep him, I think he is that valuable in the possible spread the Jets could run under CG. The 2m is what the Jets should decide to pay him in a restructure, but I was mixing ideas and it is apparently confusing to people so I guess I should just speak in plain terms to avoid people taking me literally all day long. And I probably could have used a better term than WIC since its a good program that helped a friend of mine deal with the monetary heartache of twins but I was drunk and being douchey so that's that.
