Wouldn't you rather give up Montero for him instead of Wheeler or Syndergaard for Castro though? I mean those are really the only 2 shortstops that would make a difference.
Who's comparing them? But I don't give a shit about all star appearances. 33 is plenty old for a middle infielder, especially one who derives a good part of his value from his glove.
If d'Arnaud hits all year like he hit after his demotion, we should make the playoffs with me or you playing shortstop. That said, I wouldn't mind taking a run at Castro.
d'Arnaud became one of my favorite Mets last year. I was dying with him in the beginning of the year but when he came back he hit REALLY well. Honestly, I think our OF is pretty good, if Wright is healthy and Murphy stays our infielders are pretty good other than SS. If we find a professional SS? I think with that pitching staff, we could be a legit playoff team. _
According to the projections cited to on metsblog, Flores is slated to around a 2.0 WAR, while all the lower level potential new Mets SS are not any better. Keep Wilmer!
The Cuddyer signing was just what they needed. A solid .300 hitter in the lineup. Tired of going with guys who hit below the Mendoza line. In one game 2 years ago 5 out of the 9 guys in the lineup were hitting under .200. Sandy's been basically running a developmental team out of New York instead of a MLB team. Instead of getting real MLB bats he keeps sending the same guys down to Vegas and bringing up hitters doing well in AAA but who when in New York don't hit. It's been a merry-go-round. But Cuddyer was a bargain at 2 years and $21 million. He was offered one year at $15 mil by the Rockies. As for shortstop I'm not sure they're so bad off with the 2 guys they have in Tejada and Flores. I wouldn't trade one of their top pitchers for a SS esp someone unproven.
Seems at this point a deal isn't close, Rockies probably want quite a bit in return. I might be ok if it was just Syndergard but I can't imagine that's all Colorado wants.
I'll be furious if we give up Syndergaard for Tulo. The guy couldn't stay on the field in his 20's. The Mets would be crazy to think he'll suddenly turn into Cal Ripken in his 30's. It won't happen and we'll be buried under a mountain of dead money for years, while Thor is winning 15-20 games every year in Colorado. Behind closed doors, ask the Yankees if they wouldn't love to be able to rip up Teixeira's contract. We don't need the same problem.
Can the Mets fire Terry Collins this week? Then I can complete the hat trick of all three of my sports teams (Devils/Jets/Mets) letting their coaches go in a week span.
Btw how the fuck was Fred Wilpon named chairman of MLBs finance committee? That's gotta be a joke, yes? _
I didn't realize Bobby Ojeda is out of Mets pre- and postgame show on SNY. That really sucks. I think the Mets SNY crew is the best in the business. I enjoy it. According to him the raise he wanted wasn't substantial. Big mistake by SNY to let him go. Nelson Figueroa is taking his spot.
