A great defense needs a great mlb. If we are moving on from Harris the position instantly becomes a top priority. I thought Harris had one of his best seasons last year. Reliable health, reliable veteran skill, calls the defense on the field. I think he has a year left, maybe 2 at a high level, starter. Yes, the cover skills are slowing down; major concern. I thought the priority was offense this offseason, namely offensive line ...however if we are moving on from Harris MLB is now a Top priority.
He could be a 2nd round pick. We might be able to hold on and wait for him w/ our 2nd rounder - dangerous decision if you really want that guy on your roster though. If I were the Jets, I would talk to the Browns to see if they want to move up. Would love to get their 12th and 19th picks. I would even throw in Snacks to make the deal sweeter.
Dave Harris is a great Jet and up to this point, had a very good career. But he's 31 and his best days are behind him. I would love to see him retire as a Jet but not at an inflated rate.
I don't know Harris but I assume he'd rather play for the Jets over the Bills. But he knows the Buff coaching staff not the Jets. Don't know if he'd go to a better team for less money for example the Patriots. The offer would have to be competitive if Bowles wants to keep him. I hear the complaints about lack of speed but NFL defenses and personnel packages are becoming more situational and he might not be a 4 down backer. If the money is right I'd keep him. You don't need perfect Pro Bowl players at every position on every down to be successful.
