You da man. They just got a freebie and snow. Just make sure you kick them out the door today and let them enjoy it for a few hours. No XBOX and bitching about only a few inches of snow with their friends while they slaughter zombies endlessly.
Doesn't apply to people on government business. Woke up and it was snowing. Called the hotline to work and we have a delayed opening until 9am. Streets are covered and not plowed, but it's totally cool. Worker safety can suck it. Plow JUST went by and there's still a solid sheet of snow on the ground.
Everything was on schedule here until about 5 when that 1-3"appetizer never materialized.than watching the radar and seeing the bands just not getting far enough west was a killer. Still tbought the overnight would come through.
Well jay I'm happy to have been right about this one. Not that I know what I'm talking. I applaud you staying on top of this and always appreciate the warnings. Newtown has maybe 8 inches in the ground? No wind. No power losses.
I just woke up and like I said earlier, or late last night, and it's still snowing and blowing. I'm comfortable saying we've got at least 18", I think up to 30" is still possible here. This was not a bust here by any means. I'll admit, before I joined this thread and didn't understand meteorology I would have joined the chorus of those who didn't know complaining about how bad the dopey weathermen got it wrong. Well now I know better and I'll go to the mat for you guys whenever I hear anyone bad mouth what you do. it's not and never will be an exact science. I read yesterday that figuring out a storm it's like putting a beach ball in a fast moving river and then trying to explain exactly where it's going to be in 3 days. You've done all of us here so solid for the last few years no one has any reason to complain. Gotta go shovel, I post some pictures later.
From a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Gary Szatkowski @GarySzatkowski · 2h2 hours ago My deepest apologies to many key decision makers and so many members of the general public. Gary Szatkowski @GarySzatkowski · 2h 2 hours ago You made a lot of tough decisions expecting us to get it right, and we didn't. Once again, I'm sorry. Just goes to show you that every storm is completely different and just because the weather models show a huge storm doesn't mean it's going to happen. The fact that the best model we have was nearly 20 inches off on a storm 12 hours away is troubling, and shows you that there's a long ways to go in the weather world in forecasting etc
The big dump did happen, it just happened on only one edge of the area the forecasts projected it in. I'm glad they were wrong. Big snow on the East Coast has been a disaster recently. The best part is the high winds stayed offshore. A snowicane is a nightmare.
No one needs to apologize. Your dealing with mother nature. Nothing can be predicted 100% when your dealing with nature.
Just. Wanted to chime in with another thanks for the weather reports. Rather than blow smoke up our asses you deal it out direct. I wish TV weather would work with such decorum.
It's not like this thing didn't happen it I'd and in a big way,,,,,if your a snow lover be disappointed ( we always are even when we get buried ) if your hater and got missed be grateful
Sunny now and we got 8-10 inches total. Not sure where it is exactly because none of the commercial weather sites wants to be pinned down on this, lol. Looks like 8 could be 10.
We got the worst of it up here in Suffolk County,I have two feet that I just shovled out of my driveway
