In my opinion, QB, OLB, OL and 2 good CB's not elite CB's would put this team over the top. Some positions have a more significant impact on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

A franchise qb can make his receivers look really good, where a good receiver can't make a bad qb look good. An outstanding OLB can help the dline and takes the pressure off the defensive secondary by helping to prevent unnecessary blitzing from the safeties allowing them to focus on helping out the CB's.

2 good CB's will allow safeties and line backers to take the middle of the field away from the offense.

Let's not forget a run game, it's the qbs best friend and the jets have been able to run the ball well the last couple of years, however because they don't have a QB, they could not take advantage of it.

Those are the 5 positions I would focus on strengthening.

I think I can find the list here:

    1. QB
    2. LOLB
    3. ROLB
    4. CB1
    5. LG
    6. RG
    7. RT
    8. FS

Yeah. That's about it, really. [8/22 is almost HALF the starters, surely well over 1/3 mark, for crying out loud.]

What about FS? The Jets don't have one on the roster (I don't count Bush if he's even still on the team).

You don't think Jarret can fill that spot? However the more I think about it, he may not be the answer, he did have a very good game against pitt.

I see your point though, make it 6 spots.

You could argue Jets are 1 owner away from winning a SB.

Although Woody's latest moves have been encouraging, dare I say.

2 out of 48 Super Bowls. Not a great success rate. It's a little better if you throw in Jeff Hostetler and Doug Williams.

In my estimation it is a lot harder to build an all-time great D like the '85 Bears, '00 Ravens Defense -- and to assemble a great coaching staff that can maximize those players' collective performance -- than it is to find a franchise QB.

    The Colts lucked into Luck.

There is no excuse for going 46 years without a franchise QB. It is an absolute joke.

as an owner, which situation would you rather have:

    Andrew Luck and Colts
The Bills D and EJ Manuel

If we built an all-star OL over the off-season we could change a lot. Imagine Chris Ivory behind 5 monsters. He'd be like demarco murray, but better. Yes i think Ivory is better than DeMarco, but would never have that luxury excellent blocking. Also would give our offense more time on the field and more control over the game via time of possession. That would give our defense more time to rest and less time to get shredded by QB's.

Lol... that's actually not an easy answer question for me. Bills defense was kinda special last year. Luck's team sucks.. which forces him to force up 50 passes a game. Only thing is luck has the go-ahead to the playoffs every year because he's the Brady of the AFC south... he won't have any competition anytime soon.

    Harris is a free agent.

Without a decent replacement at ILB and at least one CB we are screwed.

Also, with or without Colon we need two guards unless we get a tackle and move one of ours inside.

    Ok I will play:

    1. Ryan Mallett QB - cheap UFA $2-4 mil per year plus incentives
    2. Marcus Peters CB (trade down to pick 19)
    3. Erick Kendricks ILB (trade up from Rd 2 to pick 27)
    4. Cedric Ogbuehi OT/OG (trade up from Rd 3 to pick 58) - torn ACL may need time before starting
    5. Brian Orakpo OLB - $7-9 mil per year
    6. Antonio Cromartie CB $6-9 mil per year
    7. Todd Gurley or other pass catching rookie RB (pick gained from trading down)
    8. Stefen Wisniewski OC/OG $4-6 mil per year - Successor to Mangold one of them moves to guard for now

Those eight guys would give us a fighting chance with enough cap room to keep Percy Harvin and extend Mo Wilkerson.

It doesn't specify if we get eight guys including our own free agents or in addition to them. I found replacements for David Harris and Bilal Powell but the this roster could really use the services of Dawan Landry,

Have you ever watched him play? In 2012 he was all over the field... clocking RB's, defending passes, his instincts are good and motor is high. plus is a good tackler.
2013 he had that scary leg injury but came back this year even better. This year he showed he can play the run and pass just as well. Career high in turnovers forced and still plays angry. He's no Earl Thomas, but def. would be the best FS we've had in a loooooonnnngggggg time. I think he'll see the market with Denver being tied up to the Thomas's and company and he'll easily be the best safety available. Plus he's only turning 25...

Edit: He would also let Pryor go back to playing his style at his natural position. IMO would be a solid all-around signing. Him and Pryor would give WR's nightmares coming across the middle if one of them are roaming.. ouch!
