He's loud at times and controversial but he's also not afraid to step outside the box, for better or worse, and talk about what's really going down. If he's the same kind of guy in the locker room he's going to be a great leader for this team moving forward.

I love Sheldon. He's gonna want a lot of money soon, but he's also worth a lot of money. I can only hope we lock down Mo Wilk this year without overpaying so we have enough to pay Sheldon in the upcoming years.

You will have to overpay Wilk but they have the money. Now that's who they should be spending it on not some overrated FA asking over market value.

    Hear, hear!

While I'm all for upgrading this team through other FA's, we need to take care of our in-house FA's first. Especially with this much cap space.

They have to be careful though. If they overpay Wilkerson a lot then they'll be setting the bar for Richardson at a very high level.

I swear Sheldon reminds me of this generation's Warren Sapp the way he talks. Less of a dick though.

We shall see how much Wilkerson wants, a player like Wilkerson is worth 8 to 10M per season.

What sucks is that we really have only one of those build your team around players. Ideally you'd want at least a couple on either side of the ball.

Richardson is easily my favorite current member of the New York Jets. Motor runs for days.

Love, that he got boo'd on draft day. Classic New York Jets.

You have to overpay him, too.

It's funny though. You have to overpay guys just to be mediocre.

I think we can keep them both. NFL salary cap expected to rise to $150 million by 2016. We have all of this cap space, we aren't going to spend it all right away. Resign Wilkerson this off-season and make his contract front-loaded. Make Richardson's deal start to really kick off after the 2016 season or so. We should be in good shape.

Can't undervalue having 2 guys that can destroy the QBs pocket from within.

I feel as though people are starting to waver on Wilkerson more as the off-season goes on - that's really disappointing. He's not replaceable. He knows he's not getting JJ Watt money. Both play very well together, you don't break that up. Wilkerson will always be one of my favorite favorite players on the Jets - he's the first Jersey I bought since the Pennington / Curtis Martin days ...

Agreed. Overpaying talent is the death of a franchise. In the salary cap era, getting the most talent for the least amount of money is the only way to win Super Bowls.

I wouldn't low ball Wilkerson like Idzik might, but I'd offer him a fair salary, maybe giving him slightly more than he's worth out of respect for what he's given to this franchise. Wilkerson seems like the type of guy who would sign that kind of contract; he's always deferred questions about money to his agent and says he doesn't really think about that.

Richardson is gonna be harder to lock down IMO. When he is asked about money, his responses usually concern me.

We have a ton of holes to fill and that cap space can be used up very quickly if you overpay anyone including your own free agents.

Tanny did a great job bringing talent here on reasonable terms.

It was extending our own guys and overpaying him that fixed the noose around his neck.

If we overpay Wilkerson and can't afford Richardson because of cap hell then we are not winning the SB in the next 8 years.

Coples did a pretty good job at DE in his rookie year.

He did not do as well as Richardson but not many players do.
