I wouldn't write off Oakland taking a defensive player in that spot. They need a weapon for Derek Carr, but their defense needs a lot of help all over.
I left instructions in the thread. If people can't be bothered to look past the title of the poll it is no wonder that everyone is voting for the QB.
Raiders might like Leonard Williams from USC more. He's been lost in a lot of the discussions. There's a chance they pass on Cooper for that guy.
Best post of the thread so far. I 100% agree with what you say including picking Winston over Mariota.
i really think that the titans are the wildcard team that will effect the top 6. Im gonna assume that TB takes a QB(whether its mariota or winston is irrelevant) If the titans take the remaining qb, then i think gregory/williams will go 3/4. I have no clue who washington will take but they have garcon and djax so i dont think theyll take cooper. If tennessee passes on the remaining qb, it will probably be for gregory/williams. Then jax would take whoever tennessee doesnt take, and oakland takes cooper. Mariota or winston could fall to us in this situation. Worst case scenario is that winston, mariota, williams, gregory, and cooper are the top 5 taken. If this happens, id try t trade down in the 10-13 range
But you are willing to admit, there is a decent chance Cooper is there at 6. Jags desperately needs offensive line help and could select Brandon Sheriff.
I think Mariota is more likely to slide than Winston and I think there is a very reasonable likelihood at least 1 of them makes it to 6 and maybe a 2% chance they're both there at 6.
Well, TB needs a QB, Tennessee needs a QB (Unless they actually think Mettenberger is the answer which he is not), Redskins need a QB.
Let's see what happens at the combine. Teams have to ask Winston about the rape allegations. If they don't do that they're not doing due diligence. Depending on how he comes across when the question is asked his value will rise and fall for individual teams and if it falls for both the Bucs and the Titans he's going to be there on the 6 for the Jets. If I was the Bucs I would make sure I had first interview with him and ask the question first. They don't want to ask it after he's already heard it from a half dozen teams. They want first shot before he's got it down pat. And no matter how hard he prepares for the questions he won't have it down pat on the first go-round unless he is dismissive of the question - which would take him right off my list as a potential top 10 pick. Mariota is a completely different case. If he comes across as calm, collected and professional some team is really likely to fall in love with him and grab him up high. This assuming the evaluation process hasn't already pegged him in the top 2, which it might.
Winston is going #1. Mariota does not fit what Ken Whisenhunt is trying to do on offense. They already have a developmental QB in Mettenberger. No point in having 2 on the roster. Redskins won't go QB, they will stick it out with RG3 for another yr and prob take a pass-rusher. I mean things can change, but that's how I view it right now.
Mettenberger got hurt last year. Injured QB's are to the Titans what turnover prone QB's are to the Jets right now: the main reason the franchise is failing. I'd be really surprised if the Titans have any investment at all at this point in trying to replace their repeatedly injured 1st rounder with a repeatedly injured 6th rounder. If Winston and Mariota both pass the evaluations as top of the draft QB's they are probably going 1 and 2. If either of them doesn't make the grade outright then possibilities open up for the Jets.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them take either the best offensive lineman or pass-rusher. They could go with Mettenberger and a vet. Whisenhunt likes to throw the ball down the field - I don't think that fits Mariota's skill-set. Will Mariota show the Titans something they've never really seen on a consistent basis? Should be interesting to see come draft day. Winston would need to screw up REALLY bad for the Bucs to pass on him.
