If that's what happened, I stand corrected ... I thought they benched McCown during that ass kicking in Atlanta. But it still has nothing to do with the main point. Glennon has played better than anything we've seen here in years ... 29 TDs vs 15 INTs and an 83 rating in his first 19 games. Not bad at all for a young QB. If Smith chose to play McCown over him, that's his problem. What matters is -- can he be an upgrade for us at the QB position, and can we get him at a decent price? I think the answer is probably yes to both questions.
Geno has had many horrendous games and been benched multiple times. Russell Wilson will go down as one of the best players of his generation. Tha fuck outta here with that shit.
Not saying that Geno is close to Wilson who was lucky his team didn't lose because of him. And I mean pretty fucking lucky. Geno's been benched a couple of times, should have been more. But he's not someone they should cut. Horrific games like Geno's first quarter against the Bills can occur even to a good Qb like Wilson.
I like his arm and size but I'm worried he is a tree back there and could get pounded if his decision making isn't fast and decisive
I know you're a reactionary. So what do you do? Cut Geno. And btw Russell Wilson played lousy and lucked out in that game. Why do you think he was crying (uncontrollably) after the game. I've never seen a player cry like that. Don't get me wrong I liked it. And I wish they'd have listened to Bradway and drafted him. But good players can have bad games. Even Peyton Manning.
The problem is that ANY mistake Geno makes and the fans will start grumbling. Wilson can have a shit game like he had in the NFC Championship Game and he gets a pass because he's built up enough cache.
Well said. Glennon has shown that he can play in the NFL. He's young enough that he could still develop into a franchise QB. The guy was a 3rd round pick, just like Russell Wilson and Joe Montana (not saying he will be as good as those guys, but he obviously had good potential for a team to take a chance on him in the 3rd round). He's young and has shown good potential on an awful team. For those old enough to remember, Steve Young began his career on the Bucs, and didn't blossom until the Niners traded for him and he got his shot. This could be a similar type of situation. Bringing Glennon in here would be a brilliant move by the new regime!! These kinds of situational opportunities don't come along every day...
Steve Young began his NFL career in 1985 with the Tampa Bay Bucs. http://www.nfl.com/player/steveyoung/2503843/careerstats His rookie year stats: Played 5 games: 3 TD, 8 INT, QB rating 56.9 ...Jets fans at the time: hell no, he sucks! lol!
NFL career began in 1985, but his professional career started in the USFL. He played 36 games before making his NFL debut. http://www.totalfootballstats.com/PlayerQB.asp?id=4312
The FA QB situation sucks. Plain and simple. It would be a mistake to go out and pay top dollar for a mediocre starter. I would rather see what Gailey can do with Geno and get a veteran (NOT VICK) for insurance. If it were possible, I would trade down with Philly and grab more picks. Our new GM is a talent guy, and talent guys are good at finding diamonds in the rough.
I don't think Glennon is great, but I do think that he deserves a chance to compete with Geno for the job. I would prefer that to overpaying someone like Hoyer or Fitzmagic. I think Geno has nice athletic talents and should be given a shot to work with someone other than MORON-wheg.
I think we could get the Bucs to trade Glennon for Smith. The salaries are not that far apart and a fresh start would benefit both guys. Plus, if Glennon had our running game he would be 10X better than Geno was.
They just hired a new QB coach with a strong, spread background. The bucs forum i've been checking thinks Glennon is done. Glennon for Geno could happen.
The Bucs would absolutely trade Mike Glennon right now if somebody offered them a bucket of warm horsespit in exchange. They don't think he's got what it takes to be a starting NFL QB. Josh McCown, a 35 year old journeyman coming off his only good season, started the year for the Bucs and then got hurt. That gave Glennon a golden opportunity because not only was McCown hurt but he and the Bucs had blown chunks in the 3 games before he got hurt. This was the second chance of a lifetime for a young QB and all Glennon had to do was win some games and he was never coming out of the lineup again. McCown got healthy again and despite his 0-3 suckitude Lovie Smith uttered the words that no young QB ever wants to hear: "McCown gives us the best chance to win." Could Glennon suddenly find it and help a team out? Sure. Same chance that Geno Smith could. They both have the same problem, they can't handle pressure at all.
True, but Geno has athletic talents that will allow a good offensive mind like Gailey to tailor an offense for him. Glennon does not have those traits. Marty was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
