Ftr on the bold part I take it you were responding to junc, who was responding to my post when he knows I have him on ignore, and he not only knows that, but it makes him very angry. Oh well. What kind of person posts harsh posts to people he knows have him on ignore? Anyway, whehter the Jets were good enough in 10 to win a division title with even average Qb play is an intereting debate. I think it was. But the larger point is beyond question, and that is that Sanchez's play in both regular seasons in 9 and 10 was below par, far below in fact. So to give him too much credit for how well the team did in those years is, in my view, not only problematic but the mark of a Sanchez Fan. And Sanchez Fans by definition do not know much about football.
angry? couldn't care less that one of our worst posters has me on ignore but when I see BS I take care of it. The clarification from your awful post was for the benefit of others not for you.
I'll go through Quarterbacks of my life as a Jets fan: -Boomer Esiason: I loved him as a kid. My first favorite Jet. Of course he was not who he was in Cincy, and the team wasn't great. Former NFL MVP. -Neil O'Donnell: Awful. Just awful. Former Super Bowl QB. -Glenn Foley: Not great, but gave a good effort. -Vinny Testaverde: Journeyman QB, but had a great 1998 season, leading Jets to AFC East title and AFC Championship Game. -Ray Lucas: Did a decent job. Nothing special but kept the Jets in games. -Chad Pennington: My favorite Jets QB of my lifetime. Smartest QB I have seen, besides Peyton Manning. Injuries cost him and the Jets. -Kellen Clemens: 2nd round QB who had an arm, but that is about it. -Mark Sanchez: Most successful QB of my lifetime, but was turnover prone. Still, I had faith he could come through in any game. -Geno Smith: My least favorite QB of my lifetime. Just a bad draft pick. Awful player.
Has to be the Cardinals. They got a few years out of Kurt Warner. Other than that they've had who? Jake Plummer? Tom Tupa? Neil Lomax?
Tampa was clearly worse, they gave up Steve Young when he was raw and have had squadoosh since then. The 'new' Browns have clearly been worse.
pennington was a franchise qb who was robbed by shoulder injuries no doubt in my mind the jets woulda won a super bowl if he never got hurt especially if they held onto him through the rex ryan era
he never had a strong arm but even after the first rotator cuff injury he led us to the playoffs and appearance in the div rd then after 2 rotator cuff surgeries led us to the playoffs again. Chad is the only starting QB w/ an AFC East title in the Brady era. sucks his career got cut short, it's typical Jets luck but he was very good for us.
using the phrase "very good" and Chad Duckington in the same sentence should not be allowed. Chad was an average qb who got the most out of his limited abilities.
Average QBs don't rate out to be the most accurate passers of all time. Yes, he was limited by arm strength, but where we really got unlucky was that he would get hurt too much. Losing your QB every other season to injuries is just too much. Chad was brittle, you can't really hold that against him.
I am not sure what it is about stating an objective fact, here being that Pennington did not stay on the field near enough, that is something that should not be held against him. We are not talking about the morality of his being injured, but their practical effect on the team's fortunes. Which was quite negative. In making an objective assessment, it is entirely fair, in addition to being accurate, to note that Pennington could not stay on the field. As for accuracy, he achieved those high percentages largely by only throwing the passes he was most likely to complete. All well and good, but the net result was the Jets did not score enough. He had far less than "all the throws" in his repertoire. It was painful to consider he literally could not throw the 20 yard out pass for most of his career. I also think it was not purely a matter of injuries. When he first started playing, the results were great. But even in his first season at the end we saw teams coming up with effective defenses of him, like tha Oakland game. That leads me to believe even without the injuries Pennington was going to have limited effectiveness. Perhaps he could have been a mid-tier Qb on average over time.
Totally agree on Pennington. The problem with him though is that his injuries hurt his longevity. Pennington is probably the best QB we've had in a long time.
No way is it the worst in the last 30 years. Pennington and O'Brien were both good for us. Vinny had one brilliant year and a few mediocre ones. It certainly has been an underwhelming QB situation, to say the least.
And we replaced that with Sanchez, Vick, and Geno.... none of whom are familiar with "passes most likely to complete". Funny how a B-minus quarterback can look great after a few years watching D-minus quarterbacks take snaps.
Yep. THe whole "when healthy" thing applied to Chadwick was problematic. It was far too often he was not.
