I couldn't find anything looking around this morning and it's too early to call and ask. Hopefully Mac is there in person.
I assume that since they are hiring other scouts, it really doesn't matter. Scouts make their notes on players overall at this stage, so if we hire them, or they expect to come here, they bring their notes. It's not like we would hire someone who would not be at the Senior Bowl anyway (i hope). I'm pretty sure I read Bradway was at the East West Shrine game under the Jets days before he was let go.
Yes there's a man with a Jets shirt with a non smiling face on the sidelines. The kid who brings everyone there morning coffee and bagels is also said to be there
Why wouldn't you just assume that Maccagnan just sent a scout or three that he trusts from experience and has brought with him to his new team's scouting department? It's not like they're going to be dropping the ball on the drafting process because the scouting department is getting a makeover. The whole idea of hiring a scout for a GM is to ensure that the draft gets handled with excellence. Or is the point that you're trying to find out the name of any scout/s Maccagnan will be leaning on heavily for input moving forward?
He said he's going for the game. Not sure about advanced scouts. Watching those practices is like watching drills, they have plenty of chances for that down the road. The Senior Bowl is about the game itself. I imagine he has a ton of connections in that area too that are there.
The point is the Jets hired Mac and Bowles last week, presser should have been last week, Mac should be there, most GM's are there.
Because he hasn't brought any new scouts with him. And won't until after the draft. the regional scouts are probably there now
Just because he hasn't brought anybody officially yet doesn't mean that he won't or hasn't already planned to unofficially. Even if he doesn't bring in anyone new I'm sure he has contacts he trusts that he could consult with about anything he wants a quiet second opinion on. Why he isn't there himself is a question I can't answer though logic says he feels he's too busy transitioning himself into the new position to be there. Regardless, this guy has been doing nothing but eating and sleeping the draft for like his whole life and this is the time that his opinion is the only one that matters for the course of an entire franchise. I seriously doubt he's going to drop the ball on this draft the way Idzik clearly would have yet again. We won't know for a year or 3 whether he will have crushed this draft or not, but it isn't going to have anything to do with where he and his scouts were on senior bowl day regardless of outcome.
Maccag's said in an interview that he would be flying down there (I think today but I could be wrong), he had some obvious media obligations he had to attend. I'm sure he has scouts down there already.
The Senior Bowl practices are a pretty valuable tool for scouting purposes. I believe they keep film of everything though, so being there in person might not be that important.
